Beautiful Birdie enjoying pre surgery cuddles with Dr Colin. 💕
📸 A snapshot of the pre & post surgery preparation and care that happens for all our surgery patients, under a full anaesthetic.
Don't worry we've left out the surgery part 😉
Our wonderful nurse Ellie is preparing a patient to be spayed by clipping and cleaning the area. Once in the surgery room the patient is hooked up to all the monitoring equipment so we can better care for your pet.
Then, once the surgery is finished the patient is moved into recovery where a nurse stays with them and continues to monitor until they wake up.
** Sometimes vets can get in the way of preparation, did you spot the interference!? 😆

🐾 Attention Pet Parents: The Sneaky Dangers of Grass Seeds! 🌾🐕🐈
How cool is this video of Dr. Colin pulling a grass seed out of a patients ear!
Just a friendly reminder about a little-known hazard that can affect our fur babies: grass seeds! 🌾 These seemingly harmless seeds can pose some serious risks to our pets, and it's important to be aware.
🚨 **Why Worry About Grass Seeds?**
Grass seeds, especially during the warmer months, can embed themselves in your pet's fur, ears, eyes, and paws. These little intruders are not just irritating but can lead to some nasty complications, including infections and abscesses. 🤒
👀 Signs to Watch For:
1. **Excessive Scratching:** If your pet is scratching more than usual, especially in specific areas, it might be a sign of grass seed irritation.
2. **Head Shaking or Tilting:** Seeds can find their way into ears, causing discomfort and potential infection.
3. **Limping or Licking Paws:** Grass seeds can lodge between toes, causing pain and inflammation.
4. **Red or Watery Eyes:** Seeds can irritate the eyes, leading to redness or excessive tearing.
👩⚕️ What Can You Do?
1. **Regular Checks:** After outdoor adventures, give your furry friend a quick once-over to check for any seeds tangled in their fur or lodged in their ears.
2. **Grooming Maintenance:** Keep your pet's fur trimmed, especially around their paws, ears, and underbelly.
3. **Ear Checks:** If your pet is shaking their head or tilting it to one side, check their ears for any signs of grass seeds.
4. **Veterinary Attention:** If you suspect a grass seed has caused an issue, don't hesitate to consult your vet. Early detection can prevent complications.
🌿 Preventive Measures:
1. **Avoid Tall Grass:** Stick to well-maintained areas during walks to reduce the risk of encountering long grass.
2. **Groom Regularly:** Brush your pet's coat regularly to remove loose fur and potential hitchhikers.
Remember prevention is the ke
Is arthritis affecting your cat’s quality of life?
Cats usually love to jump, climb and pounce, but maybe you've noticed that your cat has become less adventurous? If it's been spending more time resting or sleeping, and playing less, you might think your cat is just "slowing down", especially as it's got older.
Signs that indicate your cat could have arthritis include:
- reduced activity
- reduce interaction with people and other cats
- difficulty using the litter tray
- reluctance to walk or play
- stiffness (especially in the mornings or after a sleep)
- difficulty getting up
- limping / lameness (harder to spot if it’s in more than one leg)
- difficulty climbing stairs or jumping up or down onto beds/sofas etc.
- reduced grooming
- growling or vocalising in pain when touched
- personality/temperament change (for example, may seem lethargic or depressed)
To determine whether your cat has arthritis, you should make an appointment with your veterinarian for a full physical examination and assessment. This is important to ensure a proper diagnosis of osteoarthritis is made, as other conditions can mimic this condition. Your veterinarian will be able to discuss the best treatment options for your individual cat.
