Sweet Blue visited our Cooma clinic for the day for a desexing procedure.

Doesn't she have the sweetest face 😍

All patients undergoing a desexing procedure will spend the day in our clinic. There is an admit in the morning with one of our nurses that will be caring for your pet throughout the day. Our procedures happen from 11am the same day and we like to send the patient home in the afternoon once they are well recovered.
The discharge is with our veterinarian who will run through the homecare and answer any questions you might have.

Handsome Eggel visited our Cooma clinic today for desexing.

We recommend pre-anaesthetic bloods to all our surgery patients as it gives us an indication of what is happening inside the body. We get information on how the organs are functioning, especially kidney and liver before we administer anaesthesia. Performing this test allows us to maximise your pet's safety.

When Eggels owners opted for pre-anaesthetic bloods this morning it gave us a great insight into his overall health. Due to the results of his blood test, his desexing did not go ahead today this was to ensure we maximised his safety.

Although Eggel didn't leave two stone lighter, he got lots of cuddles and had great company in his cage during his visit. πŸ’™

The Easter Bunny is set to make some deliveries but when it comes to your pet’s safety, there are a few hazards to watch out for (and they are not all as obvious as you think).

A couple of the big hazards are listed below in more detail. This doesn't take away from the others listed, these are just more common around Easter time.

❌Chocolate - the most obvious one!
Chocolate contains a derivative of caffeine called theobromine. Dogs have trouble digesting theobromine and ingestion leads to hyperactivity, tremors, panting and a racing heart, vomiting, diarrhoea, and seizures. Theobromine ingestion can be fatal in some dogs. As a general rule, the darker the chocolate, the more toxic it is. Seek veterinary attention immediately if your dog has ingested ANY amount of chocolate. In most cases, if we are able to make your dog vomit we can prevent any nasty side effects.

❌Hot Cross Buns - the sneaky hazard
The sultanas and raisins in these delicious buns can cause acute kidney failure in dogs due to the possible presence of a toxin on the grapes. Keep these off the menu at all times and watch for any that happen to drop on the floor (a common issue if you have little kids!). Call us for advice if your dog ingests any.

❌Easter lilies - beautiful but deadly
These beautiful fragrant flowers can cause kidney failure in cats if ingested. The stems, leaves, flowers and stamen are all potentially dangerous, as is the water the flowers are stored in. If you are worried about your cat you should call us and we will advise you on what you to do.

Signs of toxicity can include the following symptoms:
⚠ Vomiting
⚠ Diarrhoea
⚠ Hyperexcitability
⚠ Tremors
⚠ Rapid breathing
⚠ Weakness

If your pet ingests any of the above call us immediately for advice. 6455 7800

Easter is almost here! With an extra extra long weekend looming - how could you forget.

Snowy Vets will be closed from Friday 29th March (Good Friday) through until Monday 1st April (Easter Monday)

If your pets need special food or medication today is the day to organise it. This allows us time to order it in if necessary.

As always we have an after-hours emergency service you can call - 64557800.
We work closely with Vetchat who will triage your call and liaise with our On-call Veterinarian.

We hope you all have a great Easter indulging in chocolate πŸ™Š
P.s remember chocolate is toxic for your furry friends.

With the Cooma show around the corner, fireworks are expected on Saturday 9th approx. 9pm.

Animals are more sensitive to sound than us. That, combined with not understanding what's happening, makes fireworks noises very stressful for them!

Startled pets can run away from home or get lost during this season. To protect against this, ensure your pet is microchipped, and keep your contact details up-to-date in a reputable pet database. This helps return your pet to you in case they get lost.

Here are some tips to keep your pets safely inside during firework season:

🏠 Set aside a space in your home where your pets feel safe, insulate it with blankets, and reward your pets when they're relaxing there.

❀️ Use pheromone products, especially around their safe space.
Zylkene, Adaptil, and Thunder Jackets are three solutions for pets' stress during fireworks.
Zylkene - a milk protein-derived supplement, promotes relaxation.
Adaptil - containing synthetic pheromones, mimics a mother dog's calming signals. Thunder Jackets - apply gentle pressure to alleviate anxiety.

These options can be used alone or together to help pets cope during loud events, but consulting a vet is advised.

🐰 Before fireworks start, move small pets to a place indoors which you have insulated from sound with lots of bedding and blankets.

🐾 Attention, Feline Friends and Families! πŸ±πŸ’‰

We want to keep you informed about the current situation regarding feline vaccines here in Australia. Due to ongoing supply chain issues, we're facing a shortage of essential vaccines for our beloved cats.

We anticipate this shortage lasting until mid year. This affects cats due for F3 vaccines (Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, & Panleukopenia) over the next few months.

Rest assured, if the shortage resolves as expected, we have enough vaccines for our current patients and incoming kittens. However, to prioritize those most in need, such as kittens and high-risk individuals, we'll be focusing on vaccinating them first. This includes cats entering group environments like catteries or those with health concerns deemed higher risk by our veterinarians.

For those with low-risk adult indoor cats who are up to date on their vaccinations, we may ask you to delay their vaccinations until supplies are replenished later in the year. Adult cat vaccinations will be unavailable through our online booking portal for this reason.

We're actively working with feline experts and vaccine manufacturers to make the most of our limited supply and secure additional doses.

We'll keep you updated on any developments through our website, social media channels, or feel free to reach out to us directly for the latest updates concerning your pet.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this challenging time. Rest assured, we're doing everything we can to ensure the health and well-being of your feline companions. 🌟
