This recent stormy weather has brought rainbows and happy plants, but for some of our furry friends stormy weather can be frightening.

Storm phobias and fears are common in dogs. Dogs may react to the noise by hiding, panting, trembling and destroying things. In extreme circumstances, some dogs hurt themselves by jumping through windows and doors.

Dr Gill loves everything skin!

We are super excited that Dr Gill has started performing intradermal skin testing for itchy dogs with allergic skin disease.

Allergy testing allows us to determine what your pet is allergic to so that develop a desensitisation plan. This is the only therapy that targets the underlying allergic disease. It is a great option for dogs with allergic skin disease and can help to can help to reduce allergic itch and reduce the need for other medications.

Dr Gill also loves cuddling puppies. Here she is with little Lady.

We were delighted to meet little Tilly today. She was referred to Dr Kate for assessment of her lower canine teeth that were poking into her hard palate.

She is feeling much better after her pesky little canines were extracted. She snuggled in with her favourite toys on recovery and spent quite a bit of time cuddling the staff in the tea room.

Earlier this week, in honour of Veterinary Receptionist Week, we posted an image featuring just some of the faces of the Veterinary Receptionists who work in vet clinics and hospitals in the Canberra region.

We wanted to share a few more of these friendly faces and decided to use today's Wisdom Wednesday post to discuss the role these special people play on the Veterinary Team. The Veterinary Receptionist is your first point of contact when you reach out for help from your vet, and we think they deserve to be celebrated.

🐾 "Receptionists are a pet family's first & last point of contact during veterinary visits. The communication & care they provide is invaluable. Veterinary receptionists often act as channels for information flow between clients, veterinarians and technical staff.

Years ago working at the front desk in an animal hospital may have been considered a stepping stone to another job in the veterinary field. Though that is still the case for some today, others find veterinary reception to be their career of choice. An animal hospital that can boast a loyal, hard-working, compassionate receptionist who has been with the company for years is sure a fortunate one. A person like this will often play a big part in why clients return year after year, sometimes pet after pet.

The ability to really 'make a difference' in the life of a pet is astounding for those who hold this position. Pet owners often confide things in veterinary receptionists that they do not feel comfortable sharing with other medical staff. Being on the 'front lines' also gives veterinary receptionists a unique stage from which to advocate for good pet health and well-being."

Behind every great Veterinary team, is an exhausted Veterinary Receptionist.

When you ring your local veterinary hospital seeing help, advice and assistance for your beloved vet, the chances are your call will be answered by a Veterinary Receptionist. Although at first thought, you may assume this person's role is simply to book appointments and answer the phone, you may be surprised how much more complex their jobs can be. Veterinary Receptionists must triage phone enquiries, support stressed pet parents, liase with the rest of the veterinary team to juggle busy schedules and manage emergencies and basically multitask like ninjas.

This week is Veterinary Receptionist Week. We love our Veterinary Receptionists. More often than not, they are the people who submit the claims for help from the ACT Pet Crisis Support and through our contact with them, we see their big hearts, their dedication to their job and their passion for helping their patients and clients.

Here are just a few of the faces of the Veterinary Receptionists who work in vet clinics in our region. If you have a reason to call your local vet this week, ensure you wish the Veterinary Receptionist a happy week and thank them for all their hard work.
