Only 3 more days until the 'Saint Grey' exhibition opens in Canberra! Join us on Friday the 12th of September 6-8pm at Q Gallery in Ainslie to see Elliott Fox's debut solo exhibition. If you miss the opening night, the exhibit will continue until the 25th of September.

Pictured is Adam Barker - rescue greyhound and muse for Elliott as well as a beloved patient at Molonglo Vet.

"Artworks at the 'Saint Grey' exhibition will engage audiences through soulful greyhound portraitures to showcase their characters and personalities as family members, as well using subtle messaging and symbolism to stimulate conversation about the commodification of animals for gambling exploitation."

Earlier this year we launched our parasite prevention package with the new annual flea/tick injection becoming available in Australia. This, alongside the existing annual heartworm injection, means you can ensure your pet is covered for parasites in one vet visit - reducing the risk for your pet.

With the weather warming up, we are entering tick season so to help ensure your pet is covered, we are offering discounts on our heartworm and flea/tick injections for the month of September!

🌿 Spring is here!
Good boy George the Labrador Retriever is enjoying the sunshine & would like to remind you of some of the things to consider with the season change!

🌊 If you are heading to the coast or the bush, be aware that deadly paralysis ticks are present at this time. Ensure your pet is up to date on tick preventatives and thoroughly check them after outings in these areas. We do now have an annual injection that covers fleas & ticks so you can worry less about your pet's coverage!

🐍 Snakes are on the move! Be sure to check your backyard and stay vigilant during walks. It is best to avoid letting your dog off-leash in grassy areas where snakes may be hiding.

🐝 Bees, wasps and spiders can also deliver bites and stings which may trigger allergic reactions.

🌼 As pollen levels rise, pets can experience allergies just like humans do. Common symptoms include itchy skin and ears, rashes or infections.

🌾 Grass seeds are back! These sharp seeds can become trapped in your pet's skin and ears, leading to irritation, swelling and abscesses. Be sure to examine your pet closely after walks and remove any seeds before they can become embedded.

🪴If you have flowers or new plants in your garden or home, be sure to check that they are pet-friendly or positioned out of reach from inquisitive pets.

🌞 As temperatures rise, pets become vulnerable to heat stroke. It is crucial to be mindful of hot pavements, limit excessive exercise, and ensure pets have ample access to fresh water. This is especially important for brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds.

🦷 Toothy Thursday!

Marge the 7 month old Rottweiler was referred to Dr. Kate for advanced dental work. Her regular veterinarian identified a Class II dental maloccluson (underbite) as well as base-narrow canines.

🔸Understanding base-narrow canines:
The canine teeth are the large pointy teeth important for gripping and tearing food. Base-narrow canines is a condition where the mandibular (lower) canines are angled inwards, causing the tips of the teeth to make contact with the soft tissues at the roof of the mouth. This misalignment leads to trauma and chronic pain, which is certaintly not fun for a developing puppy!

🔸Treatment procedure:
Dr. Kate conducted a procedure to apply composite crown extensions to the affected teeth. This technique generates a gentle force on the tooth, encouraging it to tilt outward when the mouth closes. This helps correct the alignment.

Marge was very sweet during her stay with us & we love seeing her at her post-op checks! The extensions are checked every couple of weeks to assess progress, before they will be removed in a few months once the occlusion has been corrected.
