Does it make you happy that you know you feed your dog the BEST diet!!!
Lyka has 50% off until the end of the month.

It makes me smile on the inside and out knowing my dog and most of my patients have a super nutritious diet!!! This means they are either fed raw or at least not a highly processed diet such as kibble.

Lyka is a cooked diet at low temperatures and is a great option for changing your dog over to raw (as an interim) or if they can not tolerate raw... or simply because it's super convenient; delivered to your door and packaged in the right sizes.

Just use this link: https://lyka.com.au/join/DRNATS and take advantage of this huge 50% off saving off your first order.

Did you know heartworm is spread by mosquitoes? Worried about protecting your furry friend from heartworms? 🐶 Look no further! All you need to do is prevent your dogs and cats from being bitten by mozzies. The good news is we are coming into winter so the mozzies should start to reduce in numbers soon. Although after the wet summer we just had I’m still seeing quite a few about.

🌱 **Herbal Remedies:** Harness the natural power of herbs like garlic, neem, and wormwood, known for their anti-parasitic properties. These botanical wonders offer a gentle yet effective defense against heartworms. You can find all three of these in Dr Nat’s Shield Skin and Coat Spray and two of them in Dr Nat’s Defend Immune Tonic.

🌟 **Probiotic Power:** Support your pet's gut health with probiotics found in fermented foods like yogurt or kefir or Dr Nat’s tonics. A happy belly means a stronger defense against heartworms. 🦠✨

🌿 Embrace nature's remedies and keep your beloved companion safe from heartworms the natural way. Bring them inside in the late afternoon when it is peak mozzie time. For personalized guidance and recommendations, consult with your holistic veterinarian. Your pet's health is worth it! Dr Nat offers holistic phone consults. Does your pet have chronic ongoing skin, gut or other health issues?

Dr Nat's Nourish pet tea supports gut health and ultimately helps heal the gut. Gut symptoms do not need to be severe for gastrointestinal health to be a major player in what’s going on in the overall picture. There may be other major issues that are more pertinent such as ongoing skin problems or even auto-immune disease. Fixing gut health is often the first step to getting these other issues under control.

There are 10 organic herbs in this tea blend. Selected as they are known for help with cramping, abdominal pain, flatulence, and bloating. These herbs have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, be soothing and healing to the gut lining as well as have many other benefits to the gastrointestinal system such as calming, reducing spasms, helping with diarrhoea, moistening, antioxidant properties, antimicrobial, anticarcinogenic, detoxifying and biofilm busting!

This tea can be used for long-term support in cases where the gut is implicated as a part of other ongoing health issues. An example of this is in skin disorders or immune disorders as the skin, immune system, and gut are all intimately linked. Dr Nat prescribes this tea to support pet patients when the gut has been compromised by both acute toxic insult or through chronic poor nutrition leading to other problems such as poor skin and coat health. It is also a useful tool when detoxing is needed. Pets are exposed to so many chemicals and detoxing is often an important step to rectifying chronic issues in pets’ health.

If you would like a 20% off coupon code for Dr Nat's Nourish Pet Tea; post "Nourish", "Gut health" or "yes" in the comment below and I will DM you the code.

Pet's prefer this tea added to their food... I add a little extra licorice root to mine and drink it daily!!

Bless yas

How fantastic are nutraceuticals! I hate hearing people reach for antihistamines so readily during a flare-up or skin issues ( both for their pets and children and themselves!) Next time try quercetin and also homeopathic apis is very helpful 🌱❤️🐾

Many pet parents are looking for natural remedies for dog allergies to avoid the potential side effects of drugs like prednisone or apoquel long-term.

Fortunately, there are many safe and effective alternative dog allergy supplements available that pet parents can use to help reduce their dog’s allergy symptoms.

Quercetin is one of those natural remedies that can be used safely and effectively.

It is commonly referred to as “nature’s Benadryl” due to its natural anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antihistamine properties.

Histamine is released from inflammatory cells when our dogs are exposed to allergens and it’s part of the cause of itchy, puffy eyes and irritated itchy skin.

A safe dosing guideline for quercetin is 5-10 mg per pound of bodyweight, which can be given twice a day. But ask your veterinarian if your pet is on any medications if it's ok to use.

Quercetin is a great, natural supplement that can provide an itchy dog major allergy relief.

Results can vary between dogs, but this is a safe supplement that most pet parents can try.

Are you ready to give it a try?

Check out this blog post on how to use it: https://thenaturalpetdoctor.com/the-holistic-guide-to-treating-dog-allergies-itchy-skin-and-yeast-infections/

✨🐾 Did you know that dogs and cats can build up their own natural immunity to ticks? 🐾✨

🚫 Paralysis ticks are super scary as they can kill dogs and cats in as little as 3 days. However, tick poisons are also pretty high risk.

🐶 So what options do we have? Especially if our pets are vulnerable to tick chemical treatments...

🦠 Firstly no matter what tick control you are using the most important thing is to check daily. No chemical or natural control is 100% effective and finding ticks before your pet develops symptoms is key. If your pet gets ticks regularly and you are able to remove them quickly this may even alow them to develop natural immunity to the tick paralysis posion.

🌱 There are a number of herbs known to repel ticks. For example neem is used by organic cattle farmers to kill ticks when cattle cross the tick line. Dr Nat’s Shield skin and coat spray contains neem amongst many other helpful herbs.

🌻 Essential Oils: Harness the power of nature with essential oils like cedarwood, lavender, lemongrass, peppermint, and geranium to help repel ticks. Again some of which are in Dr Nat’s Shield Skin and Coat spray. Read Dr Nat’s guide to using essential oils safely article on her website (see link in bio) before using essential oils on your pets.

🍃 Apple Cider Vinegar: An age old remedy known to help prevent parasites by taking it both internally and using it on the coat. Dr Nat’s Defend Immunity tonic and Shield skin and coat spray contain apple cider vinegar.

🌼Plant herbs that ticks do not like in your gardens such as lavender, sage, mint, wormwood, rosemary and marigolds! Keep your lawn short and leaf litter to a minimum. Get a few chickens or guinea fowl will to help keep tick populations down.

🎋 Diatomaceous Earth: Safely sprinkle this fine powder around your home and yard to eliminate ticks by drying them out. However, take care not to inhale it.

🌟 Homeopathic products are also available to help build your pet's natural resistance to ticks. Contact Dr Nat if you are interested in a homeopathic product.

Make sure you feed your pet a complete balanced diet that is NOT highly processed. I recommend a raw diet. Keeping your pet's immune system strong with a good diet goes a long way. See my articles on raw feeding on my website. For more support, I have phone consults and quick email questions available (see link in bio).

Dr Nat's 6 top tips on preventing fleas naturally.

The good news is although fleas are a massive nuisance they are rarely life-threatening (they can be life-threatening in small puppies and kittens if they are allowed to get completely out of hand). Thus in most instances dealing with fleas naturally is a great option. Prevention is always the best cure. In large flea outbreaks even conventional poisons have difficulty getting the problem under control, so make sure you get on top of things early.

1. Grooming and checking daily; The best way to avoid flea populations out of hand is to get on top of things quickly. Thus the most important thing is to check your pet for fleas daily.
The best way to find fleas is by brushing your dog's fur with a flea comb. This can help remove fleas and flea eggs before they have a chance to infest. If you find what looks like dirt come out on the comb; wet this with a damp tissue and if it turns a rusty red colour then you have fleas! Flea poo or flea dirt turns red due to their diet consisting mainly of your pets blood!

2. Maintaining Clean Environment: Keeping your home and yard clean can prevent flea infestations. Vacuuming and washing your dog's bedding is a big help to keeping the flea life stages that survive off your pets under control.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar: apple cider vinegar is known to help repel fleas. The acidity of the vinegar makes the environment less hospitable for fleas. This is one of the main ingredients in Dr Nat's Shield skin and coat spray and Defend Immunity tonic. They also contain a number of other herbs including garlic that are well known for detering fleas. https://drnats.com.au/pet-products/

4. Essential Oils: Certain essential oils such as lavender, lemon, tea tree, cedarwood, peppermint and eucalyptus have natural flea-repellent properties. Always make sure you use a high-quality essential oil known to be safe on animals and dilute appropriately with a base oil like coconut oil. Dr Nat's Shield skin and coat spray contains a number of these essential oils and herbs. https://drnats.com.au/pet-products/shield-skin-coat-spray/

5. Diatomaceous Earth: Food-grade diatomaceous earth can be sprinkled on your dog's bedding and around the house. It's a fine powder that dehydrates and kills fleas upon contact. Just be careful not to inhale this fine powder as it can cause major damage to the lungs ( a bit like asbestos).

6. Healthy Diet: Nothing beats a balanced diet to help boost your dog's immune system, making them less attractive to fleas. Natural supplements like brewer's yeast and garlic have been known to repel fleas. Check out Dr Nat's Defend Immunity Tonic for an easy and safe way to add garlic to your pet's food. https://drnats.com.au/pet-products/defend-immunity-tonic/

If you have questions of need further support such as how to use essential oils safely on and around your pets please send Dr Nat a question or book a consult with her here; https://drnats.com.au/consults/

🐾 Considering desexing for your dog? Here's a comprehensive overview of the latest research to help you make an informed decision!

📊 Recent studies suggest that early age desexing may have more risks than benefits for our pooches. While desexing can reduce the risk of certain diseases like mammary tumors and prostate issues, it's crucial to weigh these benefits against potential health risks.

🩺 Orthopedic diseases, cancers, urinary incontinence, obesity, and behavioral changes are among the health concerns linked to desexing. The impact can vary by breed, age, and individual factors.

🐶 Desexing at older ages, typically beyond 12-18 months, may have fewer adverse effects on health. Newer techniques like ovary-sparing hysterectomy and vasectomies offer options to retain natural hormones while preventing reproduction.

💡 Behavioral considerations are also important. While desexing may reduce some undesirable behaviors, its effects can vary among individuals, highlighting the need for personalized recommendations.

👩‍⚕️ Talk to your veterinarian to assess your dog's specific circumstances and health risks. Consider options like ovary-sparing spays and vasectomies and weigh the risks versus benefits carefully.

📚 Stay informed with the latest research and make the best decision for your dog's health and welfare. If you choose to desex, consider letting females have 1-2 heats and waiting until male dogs are fully mature for optimal outcomes.

Pet owners who are dedicated to providing their dogs with the highest quality of life possible, recognising that a wholesome diet and clean lifestyle are essential components of their pet's overall health and happiness. Feeding a minimally processed raw diet has the potential to make a huge difference in your pet's overall health. As does minimising chemicals and making informed decisions on which preventatives your pet requires for their individual lifestyle and environment. If and when your pet needs medical attention there are more and more alternatives these days. For example you don't need to turn to immune suppressing harmful medication for a skin itch.

If you would like more information on raw feeding or supporting your pet naturally I have great articles on my website; https://drnats.com.au/pet-care-articles/

Essential oils are one of the best tools we have that help to address both our and our pet's emotions. As our pets are highly sensitive to their owner's emotions our mood has a big role to play in influencing our pet's mood.

Essential oils can be safely used around pets as long as you follow a few simple guidelines.

1. Quality

There is a huge variation in essential oil quality on the market. You need to make sure you use pure therapeutic-grade essential oils. I use doTERRA essential oils. They have very high-quality testing and tracing of their essential oil batches. They also source their essential oils directly from indigenous farms supporting both small farmers and a high-quality plant grown in the correct conditions it's endemic too. If you would like to purchase doTERRA essential oils at wholesale prices please get in touch with me. I can be your support person.

2. Quantity.

When diffusing essential oils around your pets always make sure there is plenty of ventilation and that the animal can choose to move away from the essential oil if they choose to.

For more information on essential oil use around pets check out my article here;

https://drnats.com.au/all-pet-care-articles/introduction-to-essential-oils-for-pets/

If you would like support using essential oils on your pets please feel free to send me a message.

Post in the comment below what your favourite essential oils are.

Did you know you actually have a huge influence over the health of your pets? Because you have the ability to choose what your pet eats.

I highly recommend feeding cats and dogs a raw diet. Or at least an unprocessed diet. This not only sets then up for a longer healthy life but also protects them by keeping their gut in optimal condition from being vulnerable to stomach upsets.

My products are also designed to support gut health both in a preventative way and when things go wrong.

So you just got a new puppy or kitten. Your super excited and also super overwhelmed. There are so many things to consider;

Then main big 2 in my opinion that are preventative are parvo virus and tick paralysis. But these involve vaccinations and heavy chemicals.

Worming is definitely one to consider if you have children around as puppies are inherently wormy.

However diet is also of huge importance. I recommend a raw diet from the start. Quit the kibble; there is more and more evidence to support this is making our pets sick.

I have summarised all you need to know in detail in this article. Check it out here:
