How adorable are these few hour old pups?! 1 of them was born pre-surgery and the other was a result of an emergency caesarean. Both pups and mum are doing well 😊❤️🐕
Let’s Talk About Urinary Tract Infections & Bladder Stones in Cats
This is Orpheus and he visited us as he was beginning to show signs of urinary issues. Some of these symptoms can include:
🐱Frequent urination, but only passing a small amount of urine
🐱Urinating outside the litter box
🐱Blood in the urine
🐱Straining to urinate
🐱Crying out in pain while urinating
🐱Increased licking of urinary opening
🐱Urinating in strange places floor or bed
🐱Off Food
🐱Hiding
Unfortunately, most cats are in a much more severe state than Orpheus when they get to us. Every week we see cats coming in with urinary issues. Sometimes, our cats are so good at masking their illness that we don’t realise it is an actual emergency.
Cats of any age can have problems with their lower urinary tracts. Some cats are prone to urinary tract infections (UTIs) that go away after taking antibiotics. Other cats get blockages and bladder stones that need surgery to fix. And yes, both males and female cats have these problems. In saying this, male cats are more likely to have urethral obstructions. They have longer, thinner urethras than female cats therefore, making it easier for them to get blocked.
What can you do?
Cleaning your cats litter tray may not be your favourite task but it is one of the best ways to keep an eye on your cats’ urinary health. If your cats’ urinary habits change, this can be a warning sign that something is wrong, very wrong.
If you notice any symptoms, you should call either clinic right away to discuss them. Orpheus made a full recovery and still loves smooching into his beautiful family every day.❤️🐱
Happy Tuesday everyone! We couldn't help but share young Toby playing with a makeshift ball after his procedure today. Cuteness overload 🥰🐱
This is the adorable Ardia 😊 She came in today for an ultrasound to confirm her pregnancy. If you look carefully at the start of the video you will see a little heartbeat for one of the pups 🥰 I have circled where to look in the comments
This is George. We love George! He decided to come in and visit us today as his owner noticed something stuck in his foot. We found a small piece of metal that was easy for us to remove as he was SUPER brave. George had pain relief and some antibiotics and then he picked up his lead and was ready to go home! Thanks for your happy vibes today George! 🌞🐕
Molly came in for a check up at Bonnells Bay today. As you can see she wasn’t fazed at all! ❤️😍🥰
