Meet Kita ๐ถ
Kita is a much-loved patient of our clinic. Our team was lucky enough to be apart of Kitaโs recent pregnancy journey from the initial ultrasound to confirm her pregnancy at approximately 5 weeks post-mating, followed by a radiograph at approximately 8 weeks along to get an idea of how many pups Kita was expecting so the owners were prepared for Kita's labour.
Kita did an amazing job delivering her first 8 pups at home like a champion first time mum, however unfortunately she had one little cheeky pup that wasnโt coming into the world without a challenge. Kitaโs mum knew what signs to look for and made the call to bring Kita in after-hours as she knew something was amiss after the delivery of the first 8 pups. Kita presented at the clinic showing some difficulty birthing the last pup.
Dr Hannah and nurse Gabe snapped a quick x-ray determining that there was one puppy still to come however it was being stubborn and didnโt seem to want to budge. After spending a couple of hours trying medically to encourage the birth of the final puppy while keeping a close eye on its heartbeat the safest decision for both Kita and her puppy was to opt for a C-section.
Dr Hannah and Nurse Gabe were able to perform a C-section that ultimately saved both Kita and her little puppies lives. It was a happy result for everyone โ except maybe Dr Hannah was a little bit upset when her husband Michael said no to adding another GSP puppy to their family in 8 weeks time ๐คฃ
We cant wait to see Kita and her pups for their first vaccinations, we know these puppies will bring 9 families so much joy in the future!
