Are there any Corowa locals that are able to help with fostering?
Dunroaminpets INC have helped us at the clinic with taking kittens already this season from our area. Surely we can have some carers for them in return ๐Ÿ’œ
Please message their page and not the clinic

It's only NOVEMBER and we're already having to say no to requests for help because we're FULL. Need some help. Please share!

Bonnie was throughly enjoying her marrowbone this week, before it became stuck over her jaw

Her mum could see how distressed Bonnie was, and after trying at home to remove the bone with no luck, she was rushed into the clinic for a sedation and the bone to be removed with our bone cutters

We all know how much our dogs love to chew on raw bones, and accidents can happen at any moment so be vigilant when they have one

Welcome to Corowa Dr Matt!

Matt is our new locum vet that will be here with us until late December. Matt graduated from Charles Sturt University in 2021 and is very experienced in rural vet practice. He has worked in a variety of different settings, and has a particular interest in beef cattle and all things equine.

Be sure to extend a warm welcome to Matt when you see him next in clinic or on farm!

Have you heard of โ€˜Kitten Seasonโ€™

๐Ÿฑ What is it?
Its an influx of un-desexed female cats having kittens in the spring and summer months
Kitten season generally starts from October until March - but female cats can and will have kittens at any time

๐Ÿฑ What should I do if I find kittens?
Move them to a safe place in the shade and out of bad weather in the same area they have been found

๐Ÿฑ Contact a local rescue group,
Rescues are super busy at this time of year and fill up very quickly.
Please let rescue know if you are happy to foster the kittens until they are old enough to be desexed and vaccinated. This can include hand rearing kittens every few hours

๐Ÿฑ If they are sick or injured please bring them to your local vet clinic
We do not have the facility at our clinic to care for them long term

๐Ÿฑ Council will advise you to call a rescue group as they can not keep kittens in their holding facilities

๐Ÿฑ Rescues:
Dunroamin
AWAR (Albury wodonga animal rescue)
Wodonga dog rescue
RSPCA

* Thankfully today rescue had space for this litter
These kittens will be available in the next 10-12 weeks *
It is super important to desex your male and female cats, so many kittens are euthanised every year

๐ŸŽƒ Halloween Safety Alert for Pet Owners! ๐ŸŽƒ

As Halloween approaches, it's important to keep our furry friends safe from the potential dangers that come with the festivities. Here are some key reminders to protect your dogs and cats:

๐Ÿฌ Lollies and Chocolate Risks:

Chocolate is toxic to pets and can cause serious health issues. Keep all chocolate treats far out of reach!

Many lollies contain xylitol, a sweetener that is extremely toxic to pets. Even small amounts can be very harmful.

Signs and symptoms your pet may have ingested something harmful:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Rapid heartbeat and/or breathing
- Hyperactivity
- Tremors
- Seizures
- Death in severe cases

If you notice any of the above signs please call the clinic immediately for treatment.

๐Ÿฆ‡ Keep Treats Out of Reach:
Make sure your Halloween treats are stored securely and out of your pets access.

๐Ÿ‘ป Costume Caution:
If your pet wears a costume, ensure itโ€™s comfortable and doesnโ€™t restrict movement. Supervise them to prevent chewing on any costume pieces that could be a choking hazard.

๐ŸŽ‰ Secure the Environment:
With trick-or-treaters at the door, make sure your pets are in a safe space to avoid stress or escape attempts.

Stay vigilant and keep your pets safe this Halloween! ๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

Introducing Queenie and Jimmy!
Kate has recently added two more bassets to her family, making for a pack of three hounds.
Not to worry, Gertrude will always be Kate's golden child, however you can never have too many bassets right?.. (words from Kate's mouth) ๐Ÿ˜œ
The hounds are settling in mighty fine, and Gertrude is learning to accept her new siblings in her own 'Gertrude' way ๐Ÿคฃ

Congratulations to Hannah, Michael, William and Frankie for the gorgeous new addition to their beautiful family. The team at CVC are so excited to watch Edward grow. ๐Ÿฅฐ

This time of year we start to see a lot of young magpies brought into the clinic uninjured and injured

Did you know young magpies spend a few weeks on the ground to develop the strength to fly.
Mum and dad are still around even though you may not see them - they are there.
It is best to leave them alone as interfering may do more harm than good.

If you can see they are limping, have been attacked by an animal or an open wound, it is best to call Wires NSW or VIC

Do not feed them unless you have been given instructions from a wildlife carer. Their nutritional needs are specific, and improper feeding can cause harm and growth deformities
