SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM Royal Highness Boerboel's
After years of careful consideration and observation of other kennels, Jacqui and I began reflecting on how we could contribute to the expansion of the Boerboel gene pool in Australia—producing dogs that we could truly be proud of. Through discussions with numerous respected breeders, we gained invaluable insights that helped shape the vision for the future of our kennel.
In Australia, we are fortunate to enjoy a relatively safe and secure lifestyle. However, with growing concerns about personal safety, we are increasingly recognising the need for additional security measures to ensure our peace of mind. While we have not required protection animals in the past, we now sought a family pet that could also serve as a reliable guardian for our home and loved ones.
Our journey into the Boerboel breed took an unexpected turn when a close family friend, Marco, suggested I take a look at a Boerboel he had seen at a weekend market. Intrigued, I began researching the breed and reached out to several breeders for more information. With Jacqui’s unwavering support and enthusiasm, we purchased two Boerboels from a breeder who, despite my limited experience at the time, helped us select a foundation pair a full 12 months in advance. This pairing—Targus Ram X Explosive Zoe and Jacob Max X Sanbel Chelsea—was a pivotal moment in our journey, as these dogs, with 75% South African bloodlines, laid the foundation for what would become Royal Highness Boerboel's.
Today, with six Boerboels in our kennel and a deepening love for the breed, we are proud of the progress we have made. While six years may not be considered extensive experience, we have dedicated ourselves to learning from our peers, refining our breeding program, and working towards the vision we have for the future of Royal Highness Boerboel's.
It is with great excitement that we announce Bodington’s Black Sam and Bodington’s The Gentleman Mickey as the newest additions to our breeding program. Both of these exceptional dogs come from 100% South African imported bloodlines and will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of Royal Highness Boerboels.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Bodington, Eugene Bodington, Angela De Villiers and de Villiers, Bodington Boerboels and Boerboels on Ice for their unwavering support and commitment to this project. Their guidance, expertise, and shared passion for expanding Boerboel bloodlines in Australia have been instrumental in making this opportunity a reality. Without their help, this significant milestone would not have been possible.
We are both honoured and privileged to have the opportunity to incorporate Black Sam and Mickey into our breeding program. These two exceptional dogs will introduce fresh, highly sought-after bloodlines to the Australian market, bringing with them excellent temperament, correct conformation, strong heads, impressive bone structure, and outstanding health scores.
Black Sam will introduce the highly desirable K Locus genetics (Dominant Black coat) into Australian Boerboel lines—a genetic trait that is currently underrepresented in this region. Meanwhile, Mickey will contribute superior top line and rear angulation, along with a proven track record of functional excellence and consistent production of high-quality offspring.
We are also proud to announce that we have secured exclusive rights to the last semen from Black Sam, a rare and significant opportunity. This responsibility ensures that we will only use him with the finest females to preserve and enhance the quality of his legacy. Additionally, with our upcoming import from the USA—featuring Cabaret K Locus bloodlines, which have yet to be exposed in Australia—we are excited to see what the future holds for our breeding program.
Both Black Sam and Mickey have proven to be exceptional producers in South Africa, and Black Sam recently produced a successful litter in the United States. As a result, we have established a waiting list for their future matings, and inquiries are now welcome. As the saying goes, "Patience is a virtue, and good things are worth waiting for."
We look forward to the next chapter of our journey and are incredibly excited about the impact these two remarkable dogs will bring to Royal Highness Boerboel's.
