A little more useful info and what to do in case of a snake at home. Also a little info on the eastern brown. The most common snake you'll come across in our area, also known as the 2nd most venomous snake on the planet.

21/10/2022

Please do not handle snakes if you don't know what you are doing. That is why there are people like me around. The girl in this video is so lucky this juvenile eastern brown (the 2nd most venomous snake on the planet) didn't feel threatened enough to bite. This also shows that they aren't out to just attack us. This could have had a drastic outcome. There was also a case today. A person I work with (instead of coming and getting me) attempted to remove or kill a snake in a backyard himself and in the process got his little girl bitten. As far as I know she showed no sign of being envenomated. Again this could have been a tragedy. Please leave snake handling to those that know what they're doing.

Quick what should I do post.
If you have a snake at home or workplace. First, remove any danger. eg, kids, pets. Keep an eye on the snake from a safe distance and call the snake catcher. Remember to keep an eye on the snake to the best of your ability, as this is very important. If we know exactly where the snake is it makes life a lot easier. Even if you lose sight of it we still have a starting point to start our search from where it was last seen.

Thanks everyone.

DO NOT Catch Or Kill Snakes!

***WARNING Graphic Content***

Just a reminder to everyone that it is ILLEGAL to interfere, catch or kill native wildlife including snakes in Australia without the appropriate permits, insurances and experience. Fines may apply.

It seems that over the years majority of people understand these rules which is fantastic, and I am sure a lot of people have learnt about this through social media pages like ours. It is unfortunate however that there are other reptile related pages and groups out there that aren't pulling people up enough for doing the wrong thing, especially when it comes to catching or killing snakes.

At Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers, we will always do our best to educate the public every day which includes letting people know when they have done the wrong thing so that they know for next time and it doesn’t happen again. If you have a snake in your yard and don’t want it relocated, then let it be and it should move on by itself. If you need advice or have a snake related question, please send us a message or give us a call, we give free advice. If you want the snake relocated, please call your local professional 24/7 Snake catcher to do it. A professional snake catching service is one that does it full time 24/7 and has the appropriate Government issued permits, insurance, workcover, knowledge and experience.

DO NOT get the neighbor, or the maintenance man or the uncle who lived on a farm and 'knows snakes' to come and catch it. Plain and simple it's against the law. Over the years we have seen this situation end badly for the person or the snake on too many occasions. These rules are in place for the safety of both people and our snakes/wildlife.

The Red Belly below was killed by someone 2 minutes before we arrived at a job and the person who did it fled the scene. We will be investigating this further. On top of this we had 3 or 4 people phone us yesterday who had already caught a snake and asked what to do. We explained the rules so that next time they know to leave it alone or give us a call if they needed it relocated.

Remember we are available 24/7 and have the fastest, most professional, reliable and experienced team around and take our job and the safety of the snakes and the community very seriously. Call us anytime, you can rely on us! 0409536000.

Once again thankyou to the 99% of people that do the right thing!

Hi all. Things have been pretty quite over the winter months, but within the next few weeks there will be snakes coming out of brumation and moving around again. Once out they will be actively looking for a mate as it is time to breed once active again. Keep your eyes peeled and give me a yell if needed.

Snake Season Is Coming
Hi everyone.
Spring is coming soon and with that snakes will be out and about.

Now is the time to be thinking about how you can make your property less inviting for snakes.

One of the most common questions people ask me is why they have a snake on their property? Why did it come here?
There could be a few reasons why the snake is there. For instance it could be looking for food, water, shelter or a potential mating partner.
You can’t stop snakes from coming onto your property entirely, but you can take steps to minimise the risk of them hanging around and staying long term.

Generally the best thing you can do is keep your yard tidy and your lawns mowed.
Remove excess leaf litter from garden beds, clean up any building materials or firewood that may be laying around.

Things like fish/frog ponds, rock walls, chook pens etc are all very inviting for snakes so these are things to be aware of.

If you’d like me to do a yard inspection for you this is a service I offer for anyone living in the Blue Mountains and surrounding areas.
I will walk around the yard with you and identify potential risks as well as offer advice and answer any questions you may have.
If that’s something that interests you bookings can be made through my website: www.TheReptileBloke.com.au

As always,
Stay safe and be nice to snakes.
Troy.

When is a snake not a snake? When it is a legless lizard. Got a call to relocate these 2 this morning. They were mistaken for juvenile brown snakes. They are a legless lizard known as a patternless delma. But when in doubt the best thing to do is contact someone like myself to deal with the situation.
