The cats are well and truly ahead on the snake bite leaderboard this season! 🙀😮‍💨

Handsome catto, Giant, arrived at the doorstep Monday morning in a really bad way - hypothermic & paralyzed. Intensive treatment including antivenin, oxygen therapy, intravenous fluids and active warming ensued, with the team keeping a very close eye on Giants condition throughout the next few hours.
After 4 nights in hospital, Giant was discharged to his owner, who can continue to care for him until fully recovered. Hopefully he avoids the temptation to play with snakes in the future! 🐍

🎉 Happy new year!
We are well & truly into 2025 & wanted to take the opportunity to do a little update.

The final few months of 2024 saw us transition to new practice software, enabling us to work more efficiently and offer our clients new services such as GapOnly.
We are still learning the ropes and fine tuning things in the background, so we thank you for your patience.

Our new veterinarians are settling in well! 🤩
Stay tuned this year as our staff pursue further education, enabling us to offer more services!

The stoic kelpie. Even when they’ve very nearly castrated themselves, they’re keen to keep working! This poor chap visited the clinic late Friday for an un-scheduled desexing surgery, after accidentally starting the job himself! 🍒🙈

We’ve received numerous calls regarding scours in young calves recently. Acute onset of diarrhoea can cause a rapid decline in their health and unfortunately, even with treatment, can be fatal for these young animals.

As the weather warms up, various bacterial, viral, and protozoal agents are recognized as causative agents of calf scours - commonly seeing rotavirus and/or cryptosporidia in our area.

Sick calves should be given an oral electrolyte solution or placed on intravenous fluids to rehydrate & support them. Antibiotics are indicated only where secondary bacterial issues develop.
Please ensure good hygiene practices are implemented when calving and avoid calving in paddocks with previous outbreaks of diarrhoea.

Cryptosporidia can cause gastrointestinal upset in humans, please be mindful when treating sick animals to wear gloves and wash your hands and clothing after handling.
