Let’s talk clipping! It’s a thing us oodle owners have to make plans for. Hazel got a clip today (about 6 weeks late because I am who I am - iykyk!) but since Winter decided to start all of a sudden this week, she’s all snuggled up in her too-big fleecy jacket. The short clip is a practical thing for us because Hazel lives an adventurous and full life (aka filthy), so we’ve found ways to keep her comfy in the colder months whilst keeping her haircuts functional. She has a very low shed coat which I love, but we like to clip it short every three or 4 months to take care of her skin, make sure no major matts build up, make sure there’s not too much build up of dirt and debris in the coat, and keeping it short means she’s less likely to have problems with grass seeds or “farmer’s friends” and other prickly nuisances getting caught in her coat. Hazel doesn’t love being brushed, but actually does pretty well with her grooming every few months, so it’s a system that works well for us. Some owners have a much more detailed routine, keeping longer coats but brushing more, more regular clips or just doing general tidy-ups between clips. My life is unpredictable and weird due to the nature of my job so it’s really hard to have a hard and fast routine, plus my gorgeous regular groomer has been dealing with some family issues, but we have found what works for us with a bit of trial and error. So if you have a dog that needs regular grooming, find what works for you - as long as your pup is healthy and is comfortable with the level of handling involved, then you’re doing great! Finding a groomer you trust goes a long way towards keeping it as stress free and pleasant as possible for everyone too. A big thank you to Bel for looking after Hazel today and doing such a beautiful job with my filthy little wookie!
