So… you want a puppy.

This is part one of our “So…” series, where we create a basic bible based on different scenarios with our dogs!

In this post, we mention wanting to buy a pup and what to consider before making the plunge. It’s so important when you’re looking to purchase your furry friend that you’ve considered all options, and that this commitment is something your entire household is on board with, amongst other things.

Dogs can be fun, they enrich our lives with tail wags, cuddles & infinite amounts of love, but we have to make sure we are ready and making the right decisions. Although sometimes even with the utmost preparation, we can still get more than what we’ve bargained for, if this sounds like you, let’s get in touch!

Only a few days late… WELCOME TEDDY 🧸

Teddy as a 3 year old Australian Shepherd. He has been such a delight to work with. He is already very well trained, however we are working on his crating anxiety & reinforcing his already amazing obedience 👏🏻

He is so gentle, and loves to wiggle his little bum when he’s happy.

𝐄𝐍𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐇𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 | Lick mat

Enrichment for dogs means to stimulate their brains through problem solving, playing, chasing, smelling, chewing and scavenging.
Enrichment helps prevent boredom, it is also a great tool for dogs with anxiety or other behaviour problems. By keeping your dog occupied by using their natural foraging skills and meeting their enrichment needs, you will be creating a better behaved dog.

Lick mats are a great tool when it comes to enriching your dog. They’re useful for less food motivated dogs and anxious dogs because they have to lick the crevices in the mat to get all that goodness out, it is activating a self-soothe reaction which helps release endorphins to create a calmer state of mind. They also help when clipping nails or during washes by creating a yummy distraction.

Incorporating mental enrichment into your dog’s routine will increase their happiness and overall well-being. It allows your dog to engage in natural behaviours, it builds confidence, and helps with anxiety. It also prevents boredom, anxiety and frustration, and it helps to make life easier for everyone!

Lick mat enrichment doesn’t have to look fancy or pretty. Sometimes it’s just freezing greek yoghurt and putting some dehydrated treats in the top and giving it to your dog. Your dog will thank you!
