Introducing Heart Dogs’ Newest Little Hero!

We are thrilled to welcome the newest member of our Heart Dogs family—a tiny bundle of joy with a very big future ahead! At just 8 weeks old, this adorable miniature schnauzer has joined our program to bring comfort and support to people in need. She was generously gifted to Heart Dogs, and we are so excited to help her grow into her role as either a therapy or service dog, depending on her skills.

But there’s one thing missing… she needs a name!

We’re inviting you to be part of her journey by voting for her name! Here are the options:
🐾 Candy
🐾 Sunny

Urgent Help Needed

The Christmas season has been particularly challenging for PAWS Darwin. Unfortunately, our online donation system has been disrupted by issues with our service provider, who has not allowed us to accept donations through our website during this critical period. Despite our repeated and urgent requests for a resolution, the problem remains unresolved.

We desperately need your support to continue our vital work into the new year. If you can help, we kindly ask you to donate directly via bank transfer. Our account details are as follows:

BSB: 633 000
Account Number: 152 664 280
Account Name: PAWS Darwin

Please note, our bank account details were temporarily removed last year due to a theft incident. We understand how disheartening it is that anyone would steal from a charity, but we assure you that we have taken steps to safeguard your generosity.

We also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who worked tirelessly at the wrapping station at Palmerston Shopping Centre during this period. Your hard work and dedication have helped us navigate through the tightest part of the season, and we cannot thank you enough for your incredible efforts.

Your support means the world to us. Thank you for considering PAWS Darwin in your giving this year.
Help us to keep giving them the homes they deserve.
With gratitude,
Lisa Hansen
PAWS Darwin

Ps reach out if you would like a tax deductible receipt. Thank you!

Well that’s a wrap for Heart dogs NT for 2024, and what a year it has been!
The group has grown exponentially with many great achievements along the way.
Some of the dogs and their owners have passed the necessary assessments in order to become fully fledged service dogs. The assessment is no easy feat, it requires diligence from both the handler and the dog, and passing the test is proof of the hard work they have done.
Having said that, training never ends, it’s an ongoing process and hopefully, an enjoyable journey for the partnership.
On behalf of us all I’d like to say a big thank you to Trudy for stepping into some big shoes whilst Lisa has been away having treatment and time to recover. I think you’ll all agree that Trudy did an amazing job, and coped admirably when things got a little challenging. 👏🏻
Wishing you all a happy and safe Christmas 🎄

I was able to attend Arntys yesterday for the first time in a while and it was great to see so many people in attendance. I’ve been away (for cancer treatment) for a couple of months and it was so nice to see the dogs recognise me and the excitement in the faces and bodies when they greeted me. Some before their owners even recognised me lol. While my treatment has gone really well I overdid it a bit yesterday and had an episode. A couple of the dogs responded to me and I could see they knew exactly what had happened. Arntys is a great group and is so encouraging to each other. Biggest thanks and love to our Mentors who made sure we could keep meeting even without me present. Some photos of our amazing group and our fantastic dogs trying to raise awareness and money for the work we do. Thank you to Palmerston Shopping Centre for their amazing support and willingness to support the training of our service dog teams. We will be at Palmerston for gift wrapping and some Christmas gifts from tomorrow.

Its been a few tough weeks at PAWS Darwin, with some noticable absences from our teams. We are happy to say Geoffrey Watson is settling into his new Job and were really happy for his journey,
I thought that i would give you a bit of an update on my health journey I am halfway through treatment, but have had some complications which meant i have had to miss a couple of Chemo treatments, but back on track with that this week , Im on week 4 of Radiation treatment. Everything seems to be going well, i am really thankful for all of those team members (volunatrily) who are pulling double shifts to help get us through this time and to look after dogs and classes etc.
I want to thank everyone for the positive well wishes it means a lot to have a community behind me on this journey, and even the doctors tell us the importance of that in the healing journey.
I wont lie though things are tough at PAWS at the moment and we are in desperate need of your help, what little bit you can give will help us to continue the work that we do. Christmas is a hard time of year lots of public holidays, lots of surrenders lots of people getting on planes and dumping dogs on the day without warning. There are also a lot of fundraising events that happen at this time of the year, for example Green Ant Craft Fair, Christmas wrapping station, none of which i will be able to help with this year but are important to our fundraising efforts, so if you are able to help with these activities in anyway please let us know.
Please know all dontations at this time are hugely appretiated and your time and best thoughts are also valued more than you know.
Love to all
Lisa
