❤️ Patient of the Week ❤️
Meet Lulu! This gorgeous pup has been very unwell over the last couple weeks. She was with us in hospital for 6 days of aggressive treatment 😥 Luckily Lulu’s treatment has been effective so far and she is on her way to recovering! Now at home with her family we are missing her little face in the clinic, but hope she stays happy and healthy on her journey to a full recovery 😌❤️

✨Biscuits Journey✨

This is Biscuit! At just 5 months old she had a tumble at home, which unfortunately resulted in a fractured left tibia 😥
Her family brought her straight in for X-rays and we made a plan for repair 🦴👩‍🔧

Dr. Richard was able to perform an external fixation of the tibia. Biscuit has a long journey ahead with lots of rest and healing! But we are super excited to help her along the way and we will be posting her progress as we go 🥰

It’s only been 2 weeks now and she’s doing amazing! A few photos from her 2 week post-op check with Richard and she’s healing brilliantly ✨🐕

🎆Cracker night 2024🎆

Monday 1st July is Territory Day! While we all love the fireworks and celebrations, our pets usually disagree. They can become stressed and anxious because of the loud noises and vibrations from the fireworks, which can lead to so many of them going missing or even injuring themselves in the process.

HOW TO PREPARE 🧐

Before the day -
- CHECK YOUR FENCING⛓️ Make any repairs necessary before cracker night so they have no way to escape.
- MICROCHIP 🔎 Make sure they are microchipped/ ensure your microchip details are up to date. That way if they do get out, they can be returned.
- ID 🪪 Make sure they have pet ID tags/collars and all your info is up to date.
- MEDS 💊 If your animal is normally very anxious or had issues in the past with cracker night, consider booking in to see us ASAP. Sedation medication is NOT over the counter and we do require to see them prior to dispensing this. Unless we have seen them in the last 6 month for anxiety or other sedation. We would then be able to dispense it to be collected.

On the day
- Make a comfy safe space for both your dogs and cats to be able to hide and relax during the evening
- Keep them inside and away from any fireworks.
- Close doors, windows and curtains to lessen the noise.
- Turn on your TV/ music as a distraction.
- Keep them occupied using toys and treats.
- Avoid walking them on the day, as people tend to start letting fireworks off early.
- Act as you usually would with them, avoid fussing too much over them as any change in your behaviour will show them something is wrong. This can further stress them out, on an already crazy night ahead.
- Avoid any sort of punishment/shouting if they are frightened. Allow them to hide if they need, and comfort them if they seek you out. ❤️

Lastly please 🙏🏼 contact us if you know your fur baby needs medication to stay relaxed and safe for cracker night. Do not leave it until the last minute, as all vets are usually very busy.

Have a happy and safe Territory day! ❤️💥

💕 Patient of the week 💕

Blondie! This gorgeous girl has been an absolute trooper, coming to us weekly for the last few months. She has been having bandage changes for some stubborn wounds that require weekly changes. She is improving day by day, which wouldn’t be possible without the constant support of her amazing parents, David and Janet. Along with the efforts of our vets and nurses.

Blondie you are a SUPERSTAR ⭐️

⭐️ Patient of the Week ⭐️

This beautiful boy Ollie is one of our star patients at Parap vets! In 2019, Ollie was hit by a car and underwent spinal surgery. After a long recovery, this little trooper was still able to get around using his wheelchair and assistance from both of his amazing parents, Kaitlyn and Santiago 🧡

Unfortunately last year in October, Ollie came in for a visit with Dr. Richard Bishop due to an issue with his back leg. Ollie was diagnosed with a complete rupture of his cruciate ligament 😢

Dr. Richard performed a successful TPLO surgery which repaired his cruciate. Ollie has made an amazing recovery! With help from our amazing nurses doing physiotherapy and continued support from his parents.

The team here at Parap Vets absolutely love when Ollie and his family come for visits. It’s amazing to see all the progress he has made ❤️

Spice up your Kitty’s Life! 😻

🏠 Environmental Enrichment - Cats 🐾

Environmental enrichment is one of the best ways to allow cats to express their natural behaviours like scratching, chewing and play, all within a safe, indoor environment.
Providing this at home for singular or multi-cat households is as easy as introducing items such as scratching posts, cat towers, cardboard boxes, small hiding spaces, perches, toys and even puzzle food games.
This will entertain your cat and provide a safe space for them to play or hide at their own discretion. It also lowers the risk of them destroying expensive furniture by keeping them happy and entertained for longer. 💜

✨ PATIENT OF THE WEEK ✨
In today for her Spey procedure, Betty is our newest staff foster fail. Owners Susan and Ian Gurry couldn’t resist her sweet little face and have been fostering her since February.
If you’re looking at adding a new member to the family, consider adoption from our local shelters and rescues 🤎🐾

🐈 Sense of smell 🐈

Fun fact! A cat’s sense of smell is 14 times stronger than humans.
Their little noses are just one of the many ways cats interpret and explore the world around them. There are a few different ways you can support their sense of smell in the household.
There are a few different cat friendly plants, flowers and herbs that can attract their attention; Cat grass, Catnip, Cat Thyme, Valerian and lemon grass. But make sure to do your research when buying indoor plants as some can be toxic to our furry friends. 💛

Chocolate is in abundance this time of year – but this could be dangerous for your dog!

Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine which can be harmful to dogs if ingested - the darker the chocolate (ie. 99% cocoa), the more toxic. Whilst white chocolate does not contain these substances, it can still cause tummy upset from the fat and sugar.

The symptoms of toxicity from chocolate are:
 Vomiting
 Diarrhea
 Hyperactivity
 Tremors
 Seizures
 Racing heart rhythm progressing to abnormal rhythms
 Death in severe cases

If your dog has eaten chocolate, it is important to contact a vet straight away, with information on hand about the type of chocolate and the amount consumed. If your dog has eaten a toxic dose, they may need treatment to get the chocolate out of their system.
