⏳ Just hours left to keep Gidget and her friends safe! ⏳

Gidget was born on the kill floor after her mother was stunned and killed. She arrived colostrum-deficient, sick, and trembling, desperately searching for a mother who would never come back.

With warmth, care, and medicine, she took her first tiny steps — every wobble a miracle in motion. Now she curls up beside us, trusting completely that this sanctuary will keep her safe.

She isn’t alone. There’s Barry, the sheep who lost his whole flock to roaming dogs. Broiler chickens who missed the slaughter truck. Laying hens once destined to be culled. 125 animals rely on this sanctuary every day — and we can’t do it without you.

We’re $5,938 away from our $31,000 goal.

I keep coming back to the same thought tonight: we’re not quite safe yet.

As of now, we’ve raised $24,582 of our $31,000 End of Year goal. We’re close, but not close enough to feel secure heading into the new year.

I keep thinking about Gidget.
A tiny goat kid born on the kill floor after her mum was slaughtered. She arrived sick, alone, and shouldn’t have survived — but she did. Now she follows us everywhere, curls up beside us to sleep, and trusts this sanctuary with her whole life.

That trust is heavy to carry.

We’re responsible for 125 rescued animals — seniors, compromised animals, survivors like Barry, and so many others who have nowhere else to go. Feed costs are up, storms have damaged shelters, and the margins right now are painfully thin.

If we don’t reach this target, we don’t suddenly stop caring — but we do start the year vulnerable. Less buffer. Less security. More worry about what happens when the next animal needs help.

We had our annual volunteer dinner last night at The Green Edge - Brisbane's Largest Vegan Grocery Store & Cafe, with a great group representing our 99-strong volunteer community. The food was delicious and the company the best. Thank you to all of our volunteers for an amazing 2025. We can't wait to do it all over again in 2026.

We need to be honest with you — this sanctuary is only standing because people choose to show up.

Just days ago, our End of Year fundraiser was sitting at around $5,000, far behind where we needed to be to keep caring for 125 rescued animals through the months ahead. It was frightening. The kind of frightening you feel when you’re responsible for lives who have nowhere else to go.

Then something incredible happened.
People stepped in. They cared. They gave.

Thanks to that generosity, we’ve now reached $17,200 — over halfway to our essential $31,000 goal. It changed everything. But we’re not safe yet.

Animals like Barry, who lost his entire flock to a dog attack, and Gidget, born on the kill floor and rescued against all odds, rely on this place every single day for food, warmth, medical care, and protection. If we don’t reach our target, those needs don’t disappear — they become risks.
