We had ourselves a little fun getting a collection of dragon fruit planted and settled into their new environment over the last few weeks. We all learnt that they can be prickly customers! 😆 But they've settled in, and are starting to shoot new growth🌵 so they are good to go. Love your dragon fruit - come and grab yourself one! We have several different varieties all self-fertile.

FEATURED PLANT - Cyathea Cooperi Tree Fern - $15

The Cyathea Cooperi tree fern (otherwise known as the Lacy Tree Fern, the Scaly Tree Fern or Cooper’s Tree Fern) is a large treelike fern that grows up to 15 m tall. Their lacy, lush peacock green fronds arch gracefully up to 4m. The trunks are intricately woven with markings from fallen fronds.

It is considered a fast grower and is found along the eastern coast of Australia. It prefers a warm temperate to tropical climate. The Cyathea Cooperi fern would provide an ornamental feature for a rainforest or shade garden and look stunning as part of a water landscape.

Cyathea Cooperi tree ferns are quite hardy and low maintenance, shedding their old fronds without pruning. They prefer to be planted in semi-shaded, damp areas but can be grown in more exposed spaces if their root systems are well-mulched and shaded. If you remember that this tree is a rainforest native and supply it with protection from the hot western sun and a good mulch for nutrients, you can’t go wrong!

ARE YOUR PLANTS SUN HARDY?

Having plants that are sun-hardy in the Tropics is almost a no-brainer! But it isn’t always that clear-cut when it comes to buying one. There are all kinds of plants that can tolerate direct sunlight and heat for most of the day, quite a lot of them being Australian natives!

But did you know that if you provide the right amount of water to your plants, enough mulch, and have bought plants that have already been introduced and exposed to long periods of sunlight rather than the shelter of a shady area, grow house, or nursery, then you can grow a lot more than you may think in the full sun?

That’s why at The Wonky Wheelbarrow, you can confidently purchase a fruit tree or bush that has already been hardened for the Sunny Tropics because we know how important that is…. If it isn’t ready, we’ll tell you and provide you with the help you need to make sure your plants live a happy and healthy life… alongside their happy and healthy owners, of course!!

Who would have perceived that you could professionally place so many perfectly pleasing plants in a particular patterned plan on a pallet…. Or put so many ‘p’s in one sentence!! We didn’t!!
But with over 100 new plants added to the shop, we hardly have any room to move! Come on down and check out our range of fruit trees and plants…. With a side hustle of ornamentals, palms and ferns.
