Paralysis tick alert!

We recently treated a doggo for tick paralysis after she came home to Deni after a trip to the east coast of NSW.

Luckily, we were able to source tick anti-serum and treat the patient promptly, and after a few days in hospital she was able to go home.

Paralysis ticks are deadly and as the name suggests causes paralysis of limbs and in more severe cases, the diaphragm, which means the patient cannot breathe without assistance.

Paralysis ticks aren’t traditionally endemic to the area but people and pets can bring them back with them after travelling to costal or more tropical areas. Some local clinics have seen more and more cases in the last few years!

We recommend to cover your pets with a flea and tick prevention (especially if travelling) and to do daily tick checks when travelling to known paralysis tick areas.

We have a brand new, annual flea and tick injection available in our clinic which means you don’t have to worry about forgetting a monthly chew or spot on!

An elderly client of ours has decided to rehome her 6month old sausage dog cross kelpie due to personal health issues.

She has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed.

She will require some training as she’s very excitable and the elderly owner hasn’t had much time to train her but she has a lovely personality!

If you’re interested in giving this lovely girl a home please call the clinic, otherwise our work experience student from CSU, Ella-Rose will have no choice but to take her home 🤭

These poor little guys were kindly rescued at about 2 weeks of age. They have been well cared for since then including vaccines, worming and flea prevention and are now approximately 8 weeks of age.

Do you love animals and have great communication skills? We are searching for a veterinary receptionist/ assistant to join our team!

We are looking for someone enthusiastic with some experience with animals and some computer skills.

Client communication will be a huge part of the role, and the ability to help with other veterinary tasks will keep the role diverse.

Previous veterinary/ animal health experience is favourable but not a must. A happy personality and good written and verbal communication skills are a must!

We support upskilling as well and are happy to support tafe education in our clinic.

We are offering flexible hours and are open to either part time or full time depending on the candidate.

With some seriously hot weather about to hit the Deniliquin area, I’d like to remind everyone how serious heat stroke can be! 🥵

Heat stroke can cause seizures and internal organ damage and can lead to death in some cases.

Please ensure you provide multiple sources of water to your pets, allow them to have shade/ access to fans or air conditioning, let them play under the sprinkler or in a shell pool to cool down and never leave them in the car.

Only gently exercise your dogs in the early morning/ late evening, being mindful to place your own hand on the footpath for at least a few seconds to make sure it’s not too hot as hot paths can cause burn injuries to your dogs pads 🐾

Any flat faced/ brachycephalic breeds should have extra special cooling care as they are very prone to heat stress.

It’s getting hot! 🥵 If you’re hot, so are your animal mates!

Be sure that your pets have plenty of shade and water this weekend! If possible, keep your pets indoors in the air conditioning.

High risk breeds such as pugs and bulldogs are especially susceptible to heat stress/ heat stroke and definitely need assisted cooling in hot weather.

We also recommend you don’t exercise your pets in hot weather, please wait until it’s cooler in the evening to go for a gentle walk. Avoid walking your dog on footpaths/ the road as this can burn their pads in hot weather.

Due to the rise in cases of parvovirus across Australia, the AVA is reminding owners to make sure their dogs are up-to-date with their vaccinations to protect them from the highly contagious and potentially fatal disease.

All puppies from six weeks of age should be vaccinated against parvovirus and other canine diseases. Follow-up vaccinations are also required, and your local veterinarians can advise on the best type of protection for your area.

If you are unsure of your pet’s vaccination status you should contact your veterinarian for advice.
