🚨Attention Melbourne Buns!🚨
Tell your humans there’s a new rabbit friendly vet clinic!
Our vet Dr Louise is a bit obsessed and can take care of all your vaccines, hygiene, and medical needs without you having to see a specialist.
Shes based in the Northern suburb of Doreen and she will even do housecalls!
Shoot us a message or an email [email protected] and say Gday.

Regular customers came for a visit. We probably shouldn’t have favourites but Hitchcock and River are hard to resist.

Week 2 brings us Labradors vs Pugs! Who would you prefer to live with? Do you agree with us?

Who would you like to see next week?

🐾 Meet our Patient of the week Iggy 🐾

Iggy is a 4yo Labrador x Pug who stole nurse Julia's heart at his vaccination appointment at our Pop-Up clinic this week! Surprisingly he didn't live up to the Pug name and was an absolute angel for his nail trim ❤

Is heartworm something we need to be worried about?

Heartworm is a parasite that is transmitted through mosquito bites, and although it is labeled as a tropical disease and is more common in the warmer states of the country, we still have those pesky bugs in Victoria! Meaning we still have potential for heartworm cases.

Whilst it is uncommon in Victoria, it is around and can be deadly, which is why we always reiterate that prevention is a much better alternative than treatment. We strongly recommend prevention in the form of either a monthly product or a yearly injection.

If you have any questions about the different heartworm preventative options feel free to shoot us an email or give us call to get some more information!

🥊 BATTLE OF THE BREEDS 🥊

Every Monday we are putting two breeds head-to-head to give you an insight into what they are really like! Every Monday until either we run out of breeds or until Julia has run out of fun things to say about breeds.

We are starting off this segment by putting the favourite breeds of the DD Vets staff; Border Collies and Bulldogs! Which would you prefer?

Which breeds would you like to see next week???

This weeks patient(s) of the week are Rambo and Karli! We had the pleasure of doing their yearly health checks and vaccinations where Karli was an absolute angel, and Rambo was more interested in stealing our syringes and giving us headbutts!
Both came out of the appointment with a clean bill of health and diagnosed 100% good boy and girl.

🐱Can I let my cat go outside?🐱

Cats are hunters that love to explore, but that doesn’t mean they should be running wild!

As well as outdoor cats being illegal in the council laws, outdoor cats are more prone to getting cat fight abscesses, getting hold of our native wildlife and also being hit by cars.

Having a cat enclosure in your backyard is a great alternative to keep your cat both safe and happy enjoying the sunshine. An indoor-only lifestyle is just as great too to keep our little feline friends safe!
Especially in the winter months your cat will thank you to lay in front of a fire or nap in a cosy corner 🥰

🎉🎉We have hit 1000 likes on Facebook!🎉🎉

We are so grateful for all the support and love from our community as we take you all on our adventure towards building our dream clinic!

To say thankyou, we are running a little competition to win a free consultation!! (Valued up to $185). Here at DD VETS we have realised we love to name our pets a completely different species, so all you have to do is make sure you have liked our page and match the name to the correct pet in the comments!

The winner (and the correct answers) will be announced on this page on Thursday 27th June.

Good luck! And thankyou all so much for your support
Love from Dr Lou, Kirstie and Julia ❤️

Should I vaccinate my pet every year?
A question we get quite often.

Short answer: ABSOLUTELY.

Long answer: You may choose to not vaccinate for whatever reason, we won’t force you to.
However, getting your dogs, cats, and bunnies vaccinated yearly not only protects from the diseases that they were designed for, it also presents an opportunity for any potential health issues to be discovered and addressed.

A year in a pets life is a long time compared to ours. They age quickly and as they do things start to wear out or change.
We look for things that most people don’t think of- when was the last time you felt your dogs lymphnodes? Or checked your cats molars?
All this, and more, is done at every vaccination. Plus we always give treats!

If you have any questions you’d like answered please let us know!

Shout out to Victorian Obedience Dog Club Inc. for a fun Sunday full of games and treats.
Our boys Nuckle, and Steven mastered the Tunnel, Ball Pit, See-Saw, and Snuffle mat.
Lazy Lola barely made it past the Tunnel but enjoyed the multitude of snacks.

The tale of Steven and Scout…

One fine day princess Scout was enjoying her lovely new home, ruling over the resident bunnies and cats when the Roly Poly Steven came for a visit.

Her peaceful kingdom was interrupted by the snorting boisterous bulldog. He was immediately infatuated, she was not.

Much to Steven’s disappointment, the agile border collie leapt down the stairs with ease, leaving him behind to make his descent. Despite the face rolls and much whimpering Steven eventually made his way back to the princess.

Scout was proud of Steven’s journey and decided he was not so bad after all. The afternoon was spent frolicking in the garden followed by a snooze at the cafe. A precious friendship is blossoming.
