Yesterday we laid to rest our sweet girl Blinky (Jadan Royal Finalee). 💔
For a few years now we have been battling laminitis, and those who have dealt with this awful chronic illness know how hard it is to manage. So many up and downs with this wonderful girl, and she was always the loveliest, kindest and most stoic mare throughout it all. So many times I had been told “she is done, cut your losses and put her down.” Let me tell you, anyone who knows me, knows how much more determined that made me to keep battling with this old girl, until she let me know herself that it was time. We’ve tried to keep her comfortable this past month and prolong this decision as long as we could while she had her c**t foal at foot, but sadly this week it had come to a point where it was heartbreaking to see her enduring the pain she was in, and it was evident that there was irreparable damage to her P3. To see a mare going through this, yet still be the most attentive mother to her 4 month old foal, really showed how big this girl’s heart was.
I can’t thank Jade McCusker enough for putting this mare in my hands, she has given me 3 wonderful foals that have inherited her kind temperament, and I’m holding onto her first filly for myself to ride. Also very thankful for the wonderful professionals who’ve dealt with her over the years. She is free from pain now, which is the only thing that gives me comfort about losing her at the moment.
Rest in peace Blinky ❤️🩹
