Anyone able to become a foster carer please reach out.
A South West dog rescue says it needs help to cope with an influx of animals following a surge in surrenders.
Bunbury Animal Rescue Rehome Care Inc (BARRC) says it is struggling to find enough foster carers.
The specific requirements to foster can be limiting, making it hard to find enough homes to take the dogs in.
BARRC has rescued more than 700 dogs since 2020.
BARRC volunteer Lynda Armstrong says the situation is getting worse, with rising numbers of surrendered dogs and unwanted litters pushing the group to breaking point.
She attributes the rise in surrendered dogs to the rising cost of living and housing shortages.
"The crisis is really that we're saying no all the time at the moment, or nearly all the time. And that for us is not why a rescue is established. We need homes to put these dogs into, and we need a variety of different homes and a variety of different carers."
“If sterilisation of dogs was subsidised on a larger basis for people who can’t afford to have their dog sterilised, it would mean less puppies, less unwanted dogs being abandoned at the pound when they get to be too much trouble at six months old.”
“It doesn’t cost anything to foster a dog, we pay for all of the food, provide all of the bedding, the dog is registered and microchips to BARRC while it’s being fostered."
