🚨Straddie Vet will be open until midday Wednesday 5th March. We will then be closed until it is safe to reopen.

Dr Jade will have the clinic phone diverted to her mobile during the cyclone. Please call 3487 1009 for veterinary advice if needed.

Please note, Dr Jade may not be able to receive calls if we lose power/signal and may not be able to attend emergencies if it is unsafe but will certainly help as much as practicable.

We are hoping to open the clinic Sunday morning for emergencies.

We urge you to-

‼️ Prepare Your Pets for the upcoming Cyclone in QLD‼️🌀

With a cyclone expected to impact Brisbane this Thursday, it’s crucial to ensure your pets are ready for the storm. As veterinarians, we recommend these essential steps to safeguard your pet’s health and well-being:

Pet Emergency Kit:
✅ Enough food and water for at least a week.
✅ Medications (including any prescriptions)
✅ Collar, leash, and ID tags to prevent loss.
✅ A portable carrier for transport.
✅ Litter or puppy pads for cats and small pets.
✅ Torches with extra batteries, blankets and bedding.

Safe Shelter:
Create a quiet, secure area away from windows and doors. If possible, keep your pet in an interior room or hallway. Avoid placing them near any potential hazards. Close window furnishings and provide hooded/covered beds for cats and smaller dogs. Ensure they have plenty of fresh water supply.

Home Safety:
Check your home for hazards. Secure windows and doors, and bring pets indoors well before the storm begins.

Evacuation Plan:
If evacuation is necessary, have your pet’s carrier or collar/leash) ready, and ensure you know the locations of pet-friendly shelters or hotels near by.

Anxiety Management:
Many pets experience anxiety during storms. Ask us about calming aids, such as pheromone diffusers (feliway/ adaptil) anxiety wraps, or calming medications (prescription only) and use familiar items like their bedding or toys to keep them comfortable.

Monitor Health:
In the days following the storm, be mindful of any changes in your pet’s behaviour or health. If they show signs of injury, stress, or illness, don’t hesitate to contact us on 3487 1009 for guidance. We will also advise of any clinic closures here.

By taking these steps, you can help ensure your pets remain safe, healthy, and calm during the cyclone. Preparation is key, and we’re here to support you and your pets. 🐾
