it is illegal to kill snakes in Queensland. The Nature Conservation Act 1992 prohibits killing, injuring, or taking snakes from the wild. Fines and penalties may apply for breaching this law.
A significant portion of snake bites occur when people attempt to handle, catch, or kill snakes. In some cases, this number can be as high as 80% of all snake bites. Snakes generally do not attack humans unless they are provoked.
