***Trigger Warning*** - Urgent Freedom Buster
We are definately on our way but still need $168 to get him home
Urgent Freedom Buster
Aeres is not coping in impound and we need to get him home.
- He is barking non stop that he makes himself vomit
- He is jumping up on the door and walls he has caused himself to bleed
- He constantly knocks over his water trying to get out
- Heās going downhill
Last night there was so much vomit, diarrhoea and blood we immediately parvo tested himā¦. It was negative.
Dee stayed back to monitor him and Thankfully overnight she was able to get him calmed down by just being with him. He needs his family.
Aeres dad and mum split up and his dad took him with him but found himself homeless so he left Aeres with friends. Unbeknownst to him, he was roaming the streets for a few days according to witnesses.
Both mum and dad have both said he is stressing and needs to be home with the kids. His mum has spoken to her ex and they have agreed that she will take him back as he needs the kids and he needs to be in a stable and secure home.
Issue is mum is a single mum and she doesnāt have the funds to get him out. Sheās rung around to see if she can borrow it but sadly no one can assist us.
We need to help him. We need to raise $548
to get him out of impound.
Registration $273
Impound Fees $200
Reimb Medical Expenses $75

Letās help hom get home to where he belongsš
The saddest part is he has to start all over again because his owner robbed him of everything he knew, his name, his home, his family and now he has to go through everything again including his fears because we donāt know his history
Today itās CJās FirstDay of ā¦ā¦..
Deeās Diary (Sunday 23/6/24)
Itās been a really trying few days with so many animals being dumped by their owners as well as all the dogs that have come in on catchpoles for various reasons as well as our traumatised boys that were dumped in the bush.
Our first catchpole dog who I have named as CJ has been a handful but I was determined to work as quickly as i could to gain his trust so I can show him, he has nothing to fear from us.
I am happy to announce that CJ and I have been enjoying some great walks and cuddles.
The last few days with CJ have definitely been a roller coaster with his emotions but I couldnāt be more prouder of him than today when he behaved so well when we microchipped him and let me put my fingers in his mouth to look at his teeth. Onwards and upwards baby boy. We have now estimated him to be around the 8-9 months.
Sadly still no one came forward to claim him or even tell us his name.
So my days are filled moving from one dog to another with rehab at present. So many animals traumatised by their ownerās actions and it just saddens me to think how disposal each and everyone of them were to those people. I can only pray they donāt get more animals.
Just a short update today on my first rehab case but I will share Ted tomorrow and then start to share the boys so please stay tuned for their progress.
As always stay safe, be kind and continue to be your awesome selves.
Much love to you all

This is our 3rd time of begging for help. Heās getting worse and itās not right for anyone to allow this to happen.
Regardless of what people might thinkā¦.This is not better for him. Right now heās holding on hope his owner will come for him.
We highly doubt that, after all where are they? Why havenāt they called?
Heās not doing well and heās a risk. People keep saying heās scared and yes that maybe true but a scared dog is also a dangerous one.
Heās lunging at us in attack mode, heās not retreating in a scared position. In his mind, He means to defend himself by hurting us. We cannot rehome him to hurt someone else.
Could it be that he is in a shelter? Absolutely but heās being kept fed, staff are talking to him, heās being kept warm and yet he is still lunging at us the moment we move. Heās been with us since The start of the week and no improvement.

The difference a Halti (or similar training collar/harness) can make, is incredible.
We talk to an enormous amount of people who are having trouble training their dog to walk on a loose lead, have a reactive dog who pulls them over when they see another dog, or who are looking to/have recently adopted a dog who has had no form of training from their previous owner.
Knowing from personal experience, it can be embarrassing, dangerous and incredibly frustrating. While it doesn't deter me from loving big dogs, we understand this can be a major turn off for most people.
While we try to give people advice to help with the situation, most people either don't believe it will work, or just can't be bothered trying anymore.
We're here today to tell you, it can make a HUGE difference to your life & bring the joy back to exercising your dogs.
When I adopted my first big dog, I was taken off guard with how strong he was. Brutus was an almost 2yr old, 36kg American Staffy who had had no lead training before we met him. In the words of one of my friends, who volunteered at the shelter we adopted him from "the first time I walked him, he taught me how to fly" š (No matter how many years later, that still makes me laugh).
We took him to obedience class, we switched to a check chain which worked beautifully for him, but we soon realised he has a very high prey drive. This became very evident when I was walking him and a cat ran in front of us & he took off. He pulled me that hard I lost all control and had let go of the lead. He pulled me that hard I actually damaged my back.
We tried everything. We tried specialised behaviourists, trainers, about 20 different types of "loose-lead" training collars & harnesses (including the Halti brand products), that is until we came across the Blackdog Infin8 Head Halter. The results were almost immediate. The first few times we walked, he tried to take it off, but once he got used to it he was like a dif
š¾ Foster Care Updateš¾
Hey guys, Tahnee here.
I just wanted to give a little update on our foster kitten Spinner.
We've had this little guy for almost a month now and he's settled in so well.
Spinner, or more affectionately known as Pinnacle Spinnacle, gets on so well with the other cats. They play, snuggle and hunt bugs in the catio together.
He LOVES food and will inhale literally anything you put in front of him. He's the least fussy eater I've ever seen. He does need to be watched when eating around other cats though, as he does try to steal their food after he's finished his š
Spinnacle is still unsure about being carried, but he loves being picked up for a quick kiss on the head. He's also started to become vocal when he wants attention, which I think is adorable.
He's still a little purry pants whose purrs echo throughout his entire body, they're so loud.
Considering Pinnacle hasn't actually lived in a house before, he's really made himself at home and his confidence is growing more and more each day. When he first came home he would get startled by the smallest noise or semi fast movement whereas now he's inquisitive and does some of the fastest zoomies I've ever seen.
It's so lovely seeing this timid, little kitten grow and find himself.
He truly deserves an amazing home š¤

Janien's Journal
Hey everyone, today I was at a bit of a loss for what to talk about, and I've had a few thoughts but they are kind of depressing subjects so as I was driving to work this morning I thought maybe people would like to see what it is like when I arrive at work and what happens.
For me, it's a tour of the facility, I go and say hello to all the animals in the Facility, of course there are all the animals up for adoption, and unfortunately, there are the impounded animals who need the attention just as much as our adoptables.
I also check if any new animals have come in since I left the day before, unfortunately, a lot of animals come in after hours, Rangers can bring animals to the Facility at all hours.
I also want to happily mention, in case you missed the Adoption Photo, but beautiful little Staffy TAJ was today adopted yipppee, she so deserves to know what it is like to live a beautiful no worry life.
Also, the elephants in the room, Lisa and Buck, who many of you would have seen were adopted, but unfortunately they were returned 2 days later. I don't need to go into the whys but let's just say it really was no fault of theirs and please do not feel there is anything wrong with these beautiful Greyhounds as they are pretty much perfect and will make the most perfect bestfriends for someone. A lot of teething problems can arise in the first few 'weeks' when you take a new animal home to a new place they've never been and need to get to know and adjust to a new lifestyle and family and patience can be required on all parties. Fingers crossed that we see, like we did yesterday see Bindi, get the perfect home for these 2 beauties.
What do you think of Bruno, he is just a huggable little love machine and he will make someone so happy. Love that little guy.
Anyway take care.
Oh and I know I usually post Saturday, but well I did this video today so thought today will be fine, plus I have a feeling that a lot might get posted tomorrow.

Shelby's Scoop
The day is finally here (Monday, 11th March 2024).
Kevin and I attended SASH this morning for an 8:00am drop off and let me tell you he had many opinions to voice on the drive over. He typically doesnāt like car rides and being in the carrier stresses him out, so that coupled with forcing him away from cuddling in bed had him hollering the entire hour long drive.
After a wait of about 20 mins we were greeted by one of the nurses who attended Kevinās original assessment and I was informed surgery will be sometime this morning. Theyāll let me know when he goes in and when the operation has finished, and of course Iāll be the first to know if there are any issues with the procedure.
Iām a mix of emotions. Itās really scary letting someone else take care of your fur babies, especially when theyāre going in for treatment at a medical facility. And for surgery especially.
Iāve been going through some pretty severe mental health issues over the past few months and still have a lot of pent up anxiety, so this is the latest thing on my mind. I know that everything that happened to Mac was an anomaly and the case this time is different in many ways, but itās still a stressful situation. I just keep reminding myself that thereās nowhere better for him to be, and weāve been assured that the procedure has a low risk of complication.
To everyone who donated to help Kevin, again I thank you. Itās still been quite a hit to our savings but every little bit has made the impact just a little lighter.
Iāll have another update when Kevin is out of surgery.
I wasnāt able to snap a photo this morning but here he is yesterday trying to steal my pens, in chaotic ginger spirits as always.
Love you all, look after yourselves ā¤ļø Shelby

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone has had an awesome start to the week so far.
There's been a lot of bad news and sad cases lately so I thought I'd lighten the mood a bit with a video of our greyhounds getting a little taste of freedom.
We recently had the rangers cottage pulled down so we've found itself with a little enclosed yard for the dogs to run through, so we thought who better to test it out than three beautiful greys?!
As a precaution they were all muzzled when first set free but within a minute of running around together we knew it was safe to remove them.
Sunday afternoon (when we filmed this), it was really hot outside, so unfortunately the zoomies didn't last very long but this made room for some kisses from Bindi, digging his own bed from Buck and fly hunting from Lisa.
UPDATE ON THIS ... UNFORTUNATELY BUCK AND LISA ARE NOW BACK UP FOR ADOPTION.
You might have seen that Buck (black) and Lisa (brindle) were adopted together yesterday, so I'm going to talk a bit more about the beautiful Bindi (white and brindle).
Bindi has got to be the most affectionate and cheeky greyhound I've ever met. She kisses you any chance she can (which you can see in the video), she loves her zoomies, she tries to climb on your lap for a cuddle, if you're not really paying attention to her then you try to find her again you'll find her behind a tree or chair with the goofiest look on her face.
She just seems so innocent and pure and I love her dearly.
Come to think of it, all the dogs we have in at the moment are so pure at heart. They're all such sweet little things who just want to share their love with someone.
That's all I've got for you tonight, I'm keeping it short and sweet!
Until next week šš»
Cobo assaults 2 people

Cobo Assaultās 2 people and Dee near has a heart attack
I wont make this a big blog because we are working on some animals behind the scene that we will talk about once we get things finalised behind the scenes. I guess the Teddy & Hamilton debacle and the attacks on us about us being disgusting really took its toll on all of us but it made me realised how much we do behind the scenes that no one knows about. So we are going to start sharing some of them.
Anyway thanks to Pete (NOT) for giving me the heart attack of the century when he sent me a message to say that Cobo had assaulted two people at Petstock. Of course I immediately felt ill and tried to contact him. Well you can clearly see this vicious dog in action.
As always stay safe, be kind and continue to be your awesome selves.
Much love to you all

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone has had an awesome start to the week so far.
My week was fairly uneventful so I was at a loss of what I would write about in my blog. When I brought this up with my husband Chris, he suggested I do a video of some of the beautiful cats we have at the facility and to see if we can start changing the negative stigma around cats in general. Obviously this was a brilliant idea, so that's what I'm going to attempt to do today!
Firstly I wanted to start by saying I grew up in a very anti-cat household. I was told cats are just pests who kill everything. Like most children, I blindly believed every word my parents told me about pretty much every subject.
I was an animal lover who hated cats.
Way back in 2016 when I first started working for Dee she asked me to clean and feed the cats. I simply told her "oh, yeah I don't do cats, I'm a dog person". She looked me dead in the eye and told me that we have cats and dogs in care and if I was to continue working for her I had to work with cats as well. It was the slap in the face I CLEARLY needed to pull my head in and it was the first day I'd really ever interacted with cats. I had so much hatred towards cats but I'd never even been around them before.
Chris grew up very similar. He was a farm boy who believed cats were a tool and not a pet. They were to do their mice/rat hunting and that's it, they weren't "fun" pets like dogs.
I think the fact we now have five cats shows our sentiment has changed š
When I started spending time with cats I realised how wrong I really was. Cats are sensitive, playful, affectionate and intelligent beings. Cat haters like to dump them all into one basket but the truth is, every cat has a different personality just like dogs do. Some are shy, others are confident, some are quiet, others are vocal, some are independent, others are velcro babies, some thrive around other animals, others hate them. There is literally a cat to

Deeās Diary (Started Writing Wednesday 28/2/24)
Sorry itās been a while since I blogged, itās not that I donāt want to, but I simply donāt know where the hours in my day go. My day starts at 6am and usually finishes around 10pm (actually, if Iām honest, most days I finish later) and I usually work 7 days a week. With this in mind, technically I should have a huge amount of time on my hands. If I only did the job Iām contracted to do, this would likely be the case, however our days are filled with unpredictable situations which can be incredibly time consuming. Let me explain.
As many of you will know, we are only a small facility. We service 3 large councils with their stray animals but there is so much that goes on behind the scenes that people donāt see us do. Sometimes our job crosses over to areas that arenāt in our jurisdiction or contract ie hoarding cases and cruelty cases. It would be so easy to say ānope not our problemā but thatās not who I am or who my team are.
I am about to share 3 cases from just one week.
Case 1 - I had a Care Organisation rang the facility to ask advice about their clients. Their clients are elderly but more importantly very ill. They were refusing to go into hospital until their 3 beloved dogs were taken care of. I advised them to give RSPCA a ring because they have a number of programmes to help people with temporary care while their owners are in hospital. Thatās when I found out, the owners were so ill, they wonāt be coming back home again. The Care Organisation was told by RSPCA their waiting list was up to 6 months, and they were obviously distraught about this because they feared the people would die in the house within a few days unless they could get them into hospital. Out of desperation they rang to see if Council or us could do anything to help. I immediately let Cessnock Council know of the situation and went to see the couple to talk to them about their situation. Cessnock Rangers were mo
š¶ Janienās Journal š¶
Hey everyone, well it's been a great week all-in-all. If you read my last blog you would have learnt about the 'list' and how we have some wonderful friends in other Rescues. This week a lot of dogs went off to these other Rescue with hopefully new options in new areas.
Today, we had 3 adoptions, 2 grey kittens and little Pepe who wasn't with us for even 24 hours who is one of the lucky ones and has found the bestest new ma and pa ever. I love taking these adoption photos and posting them so much, it really is the best outcome ever for our animals and you can see the joy on all the faces, but what you don't see is the joy on our faces, the staff and volunteers as sad as we are to see them go, we are beyond happy and that also means we have space for another poor soul who unfortunately found itself without a home.
This afternoon as I had a wander around the kennels, it was very quiet and I had a look in and thought how adorable I must do a quick video, our little ones sleeping so peacefully....the little black one was an impound whose parents were happy for me to post this, but the other 2 are sweet Lexy the cattle x and our next upcoming baby Squirt the little brown and white puppy.
This is a short one today, but I hope you enjoy it.

Tahnee's Tales 24.01.24
Oh boy, what a week it's been!
Since Janien has been off Shelby & I have been covering her shifts for her. Normally I work four days a week, however in September last year I had to say goodbye to my soul dog, Echo and I've been struggling a lot with her loss. Because of this I made the decision to drop back to only working three days, so you can imagine how shut down my brain is right now with today being my seventh day (I apologise to anyone I've spoken to where my brain has shut off mid sentence š).
On Monday we had a beautiful German Shepherd named Mia brought in as a stray. This girl was absolutely stunning (she reminds me of my beloved Echo) but she was incredibly underweight. We weighed her on arrival and she was a measly 19.9kg.
Now she was microchipped but the details were well out of date, so Dee started her investigation. If anyone of you don't already know, Dee is VERY good at investigating so it didn't take long before she'd spoken to the microchipped owner and found the details of who he rehomed to. We were just about to make the call to them when we had a customer at the window wanting to pick up their dog Mia and we also spoke to their partner on the phone.
When questioned about her weight they said they'd recently gotten rid of her latest litter of puppies and saw no issue with her weight because they were giving her food. They also claimed that she was already that weight when they got her and she's just a "smaller Shepherd" not underweight.
We knew this was a lie because her original owner had sent photos of Mia before he rehomed her and she was in perfect health. Needless to say he was just as disgusted and upset by her condition as we were.
As much as Mia's old owner loves her, he is moving interstate this week and wasn't able to take her with him. He thought he was doing the right thing by finding her a new home, only to be confronted with this. Obviously we didn't want Mia going back to where she came from, so D
Hugo Update..
Itās been a hell of a few months but anyway, hello, this is Kevin, (aka Hugo, aka Kevin the Great, aka the Mighty Kevin, aka The Great and Mighty Kevin). Weāre technically fostering him but heās probably (definitely) not going back to the shelter anytime soon (ever).
He was dumped in the bush with his two other siblings, and heās died about three times and was resuscitated each time by my unstoppable boss, Dee. It was pretty sketch for a while looking like he wouldnāt live to see the morning. Now he enjoys chewing computer cables (the live ones are the tastiest, probably because theyāre forbidden), climbing on shoulders and grooming beards (not mine, itās not long enough).
Heās eating a lot and slowly, very slowly, growing.
In any case, weāve inevitably fallen in love with another sickly ginger. He had a giant abscess on his butt which burst and it was gross and I had to clean it out which was fun, then it was straight to the vet for antibiotics and a saline flush by us twice a day. Now itās all healed and he has half a nude booty.
Kevinās vision isnāt very good; he and his brother both suffer from a genetic condition that means their eyelids never fully developed in utero, so with nothing to protect their eyes the constant onslaught of hair and dirt gradually wears the iris down, damaging their sight. He gets eye drops multiple times a day to keep them lubricated and keep the grime off, but eventually surgery or potentially removal of the eyes will be needed.
My biggest worry was that no one would want him because of this.
Itās hard enough to adopt out animals in rescue, especially cats and kittens, and having just been in parvo quarantine for a number of weeks we havenāt had the ability to host adoptions anyway. But animals with special needs are the most overlooked due to the extra care needed and the financial strain implied, so they have it even harder.
And he hasnāt been.. easy. He was so weak tha
