โš ๏ธ Dustyโ€™s Story โ€“ The Dangers of Cooked Bones

Meet Dusty, a 5 year 8 month old Cavoodle who came to us after a cooked lamb bone became stuck in the roof of his mouth. Poor Dusty was in quite a bit of discomfort and had to be sedated in hospital to have it safely removed.

Cooked bones may seem like a tasty treat, but they can splinter easily and cause:
-Mouth and throat injuries
-Blockages or obstructions
-Internal damage to the stomach or intestines

๐Ÿพ Please avoid giving your pets cooked bones โ€” even small ones! There are plenty of safer alternatives like dental chews or vet-approved treats that can keep your pet happy and healthy.

Dusty is now doing much better โ€” but his story is a good reminder for all pet owners! โค๏ธ

๐ŸŽƒ Top Tips for Keeping Your Pets Safe This Halloween! ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿพ
Halloween is full of fun for us โ€” but it can be a little spooky for our pets! Here are our top tips to keep them safe and stress-free:
๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ Keep treats out of reach โ€“ Chocolate and lollies (especially those with xylitol) can be toxic to pets.
๐Ÿšช Create a calm space โ€“ Costumes, noise, and visitors can be overwhelming. Give your pet a quiet room to relax in.
๐Ÿฆด Pet-safe treats only! โ€“ Have some healthy pet treats on hand so they donโ€™t miss out on the fun.
๐ŸŽญ Costume comfort โ€“ If dressing up your pet, make sure the outfit fits well and doesnโ€™t restrict breathing or movement.
๐Ÿท๏ธ Secure identification โ€“ With doors opening and closing for trick-or-treaters, ensure your petโ€™s microchip and tags are up to date.
Letโ€™s make this Halloween safe and happy for everyone โ€” furry friends included! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

๐Ÿ Itโ€™s Snake Season โ€“ Stay Alert! ๐Ÿพ

With the warmer weather comes increased snake activity โ€” and unfortunately, our curious pets are often the ones who find them first!

Snake bites are life-threatening emergencies.
If you suspect your dog or cat has been bitten, keep them calm and still, and get to your vet immediately. Do not try to treat the bite at home.

โš ๏ธ Common signs of snake bite may include:
- Sudden weakness or collapse (sometimes followed by a brief recovery)
- Dilated pupils
- Difficulty breathing
- Drooling or vomiting
- Trembling, paralysis or wobbliness

โ›” What to do:
โœ”๏ธ Keep your pet quiet and limit movement
โœ”๏ธ Transport them to the nearest vet as quickly as possible
โœ”๏ธ Call ahead if you can so the team can prepare

๐Ÿพ Prevention tips:
- Keep lawns short and gardens tidy
- Stay on paths during walks
- Avoid letting pets explore long grass or bushy areas

If you ever think your pet may have encountered a snake, call us immediately โ€” every minute counts.

๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป Halloween Treats Are for Humans โ€” Not Pets! ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿพ

Halloween is a fun time for the family โ€” but it can be tricky for our furry friends! While youโ€™re enjoying your lollies and chocolates, remember that many popular Halloween treats can be toxic to pets.

โš ๏ธ Common Halloween dangers:
๐Ÿซ Chocolate โ€“ contains theobromine and caffeine, which can cause vomiting, restlessness, tremors, seizures, and even be fatal in large amounts.
๐Ÿฌ Lollies, gum & baked goods โ€“ often contain xylitol, a sugar substitute that can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar and liver failure in dogs.
๐ŸŽ Candy wrappers โ€“ shiny and fun to chew but can cause choking or intestinal blockages.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ What you can do:

- Keep all sweets and lolly bags well out of reach.

- Remind the kids not to share their treats with pets (no matter how cute those puppy eyes are!).

- If your pet manages to sneak a treat, contact us right away or head to your nearest emergency vet.

Letโ€™s keep this Halloween safe, fun, and treat-filled โ€” for the humans only! ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

โ€œProtecting Pets in Extreme Heatโ€

๐ŸŒž Protect Your Pets This Summer! ๐ŸŒž

As temperatures soar, our furry family members feel the heat too. Heat stress and heatstroke can occur quickly โ€” and can be life-threatening. Hereโ€™s how to help your pets stay safe and comfortable:

๐Ÿ’ง Keep them hydrated โ€“ Always have fresh, cool water available.
๐Ÿก Provide shade and airflow โ€“ Avoid hot concrete or metal surfaces.
๐Ÿšซ Never leave pets in cars โ€“ Even a few minutes can cause fatal heatstroke.
๐Ÿพ Walk during cooler times โ€“ Early mornings or late evenings are safest.
๐ŸงŠ Cool them down safely โ€“ Use damp towels, fans, or pet-safe cooling mats.
โš ๏ธ Know the signs of heat stress โ€“ Heavy panting, drooling, vomiting, lethargy, or collapse.

If your pet shows signs of heatstroke, move them to a cool area, offer small sips of water, and contact your vet immediately 02 49586635

Letโ€™s keep our furry friends safe this summer! ๐Ÿ’›
