🐶💤It’s tough being a pup💤🐶

Little Pepper was all tuckered out after her visit yesterday with Dr. Kayt. She even started paddling her little paws as she dreamt.

She definitely stole all of our hearts and got all the cuddles once she woke up.

It’s hot out there!

Here’s some quick tips to keep your pets safe.

🐾 Keep your pets inside if possible and in a well ventilated area.

💧If outside, make sure there is plenty of shade and access to fresh water and offer more than one bowl of water in case one gets depleted/knocked over.

🧊Add ice cubes to the water or make large ice cubes by freezing water in ice cream containers (can include some chicken stock or even a handful of kibble).

☀️Never walk your dog in the heat of the day or on hot surfaces. Roads and pavements can get extremely hot and can still be too hot to walk on in the evening. Stick to grassy areas.

‼️Never leave your pet in a hot car as temperatures can very quickly rise to fatal levels. Additionally, do not travel with your pet on hot ute/truck trays.

This is Jack.

He recently had a surgery to rectify his bilateral cherry eye and he did so well.

We love that those big, beautiful eyes are out on display now and getting better each time we see him.

He is such a little trooper. Good job, Jack.

For a easy breezy Christmas this year, remember to keep all tempting items out of reach.

Small toys, batteries, tinsel, Christmas lights and ornaments (just to name a few items) often find their way into bellies and can really put a damper on the Christmas spirit.

While you’re here, we’d also just like to remind you to keep your halloween haul away from your pets. Lollies, chocolates, gum and many other snacks can be a danger to our best buddies so make sure to keep them well out of reach.

Can you imagine being only 7 grams in this big world?

That’s how heavy this juvenile feather glider was upon presentation to our clinic.

Unfortunately he was brought to us after being caught by a cat. Miraculously however, he had no major injuries and was handed over to a wildlife carer for release.

In celebration, here are some fun facts about our scaly friends.

🐍Australia is home to approximately 14% of the world’s reptile population.

🐢Reptiles are ectothermic, meaning their body temperature is dependant on external sources of heat.

🦎Of all the species of reptiles in the world, Australia is home to 869.

🐊In species such as crocodiles and turtles the temperature at which developing eggs are incubated decides whether male or female offspring are born. This is known as temperature-dependent s*x determination.

Paralysis ticks pose a serious threat to our furry friends.

Being aware of the symptoms if your dog or cat are affected can help ensure you seek swift veterinary attention:

❗️Difficulty breathing
❗️Weakness in front or hind legs
❗️Uncoordinated movements or weakness
❗️Coughing or vomiting due to inability to swallow
❗️Changes in their bark or meow

This week alone we have had multiple patients brought to us affected by ticks.

We urge owners to remain diligent with their pets tick preventatives all year round.

If you notice any of these signs, contact our vet clinic immediately. Early detection and treatment are crucial.

How cute is this little Ringtail Possum that visited us yesterday?

He spent the day with us after being brought in by a member of the public. After a good work up and the all clear, he was handed over to a wildlife carer to be released.

Remember, if you ever see sick or injured wildlife, bringing them to a vet clinic is their very best shot at recovery and returning to the wild.
