The well known mare Blame It On Me gave us our ninth foal. A very energetic Rocknroll Heaven filly called Ivy is keeping her mum Rosie on her toes. Payback for Rosie as I foaled her and she did the sss as me thing to her mum 🤣

Four days in and out of labour. Waxed three times over 10 days this big c**t popped out with no drama. Relieved 😅

First two pregnancies today, one fresh on farm and the other fresh chilled. Thanks to Dr Libby Cooper for the first scans of the season and your expertise with our varied “stuff” we did today

Foaling is what we do
No matter how many mares you have foaled you are still learning. Two seasons ago (after 10 years and almost 400 mares) we took pride in the fact we had never mismothered a foal.
Then it happened. An experienced mare would not take her foal and was prepared to kill it.
I had noticed unusual behaviour once she was up. The amniotic sac was still attached to the placenta and, as it lay shimmering beside her she was licking it. She was vicious to her foal and to us for several days. I covered the foal in the sac but that made no difference.
The “love drug “ regime did not help at all
With a few days, patience and a couple of bad bites it suddenly came right and she happily raised her c**t.
Last season it was about to happen again. The mare below was progressing into the same situation. With the sac laying beside her she started doing the same thing. Removed the sac quickly and got her to focus on the foal. It was only minutes away from happening again.
