That time of year is certainly here where we do get many baby birds handed in. This is some excellent advice on what to do if you find a little feathered friend.
Baby bird season is well and truly here 🐣
We currently have 109 baby birds in the hospital and off-site care (including 99 ducklings!). As cute as this sounds, it's a lot of work and our volunteers are very busy assessing, treating, cleaning and feeding.
Can you please help us keep young birds healthy, safe and with their parents, this spring?
🐥 check trees and shrubs for nests before pruning
🐥 avoid pruning if a nest is active
🐥 keep pets and people well away (birds see us as predators)
🐥 report feral predators to your council ranger
🐥 drive carefully, especially near wetlands and bushland
🐥 keep wildlife habitat free of rubbish
🐥 add ramps and covers to pools, so ducklings can escape
🐥 don't feed baby birds - you are hurting their health, family relationships, behaviours and ecological roles!
If you come across a baby bird, you will need to know its age, species and situation, before deciding what to do. Please call us or message us photos if you have any questions, so we can help injured, sick or orphaned birds - and keep the healthy babies safe at home, with their parents.
