Group classes might seem like the perfect solution if you're dealing with dog reactivity or struggling to get your dog to listen around other dogs. But here’s the truth: group classes aren’t the right place to start—they’re the graduation stage.
Why not start with group classes?
1️⃣ Too Many Distractions: Reactive or untrained dogs can become overwhelmed in a group setting, making it hard for them to focus and learn effectively.
2️⃣ Increased Stress: For reactive dogs, being surrounded by other dogs can trigger anxiety or frustration, which can reinforce unwanted behaviors rather than resolve them. (It generally makes your problems worse)

Proud Trainer Moment! Tye would bark and lunge at the mere sight of another dog. Now? He’s showing incredible control walking calmly on leash, listening to commands, and holding his place with other dogs nearby.
Staying still around other dogs would generally escalate Tyes reactivity– While we still have some work to do in this area, look at him, nailing his place with focus and calmness, even as other dogs pass by. 👏 This didn’t happen overnight – it’s a testament to hard work, patience, and his owner's dedication to consistent training.
