The game you see is called ➡️"Pass By."
This exercise simulates the real-world scenario of passing another dog on the street in close proximity but with added difficulty—dogs on both sides and multiple pairs passing at once.
Clients form two lines and guide their dogs through the gaps in the opposing line, ensuring their dogs stay focused, composed, and heeling amidst close, controlled chaos.
For reactive dogs, this is a true test of their training, and our clients have risen to the occasion! AIM OF THE GAME: "Pass the Object" is to help reactive dogs practice staying calm, focused, and controlled while in close proximity to other dogs. This exercise not only reinforces basic obedience but also helps both dogs and handlers build confidence in environments that typically trigger anxiety or stress.
🏆For owners, the game offers a valuable opportunity to work on their handling skills in a supportive, controlled setting. It empowers them to manage their dogs more effectively in real-world situations, reducing the fear and anxiety that often accompany outings with reactive dogs. By successfully guiding their dogs through this exercise, owners build trust in their own abilities and deepen the bond with their dogs, knowing they can face challenges together.
👉HOW IT WORKS: Participants form a line or circle with their dogs. A random object is passed from one person to the next, but there’s a catch—before handing off the object, each handler must instruct their dog to either sit, down, or stand, and then take a few steps to pass the object to their neighbor. The process continues until the object has made its way down the line or around the circle.
Throughout the game, dogs are required to stay focused and maintain their position while their handler briefly steps away, a challenge for any dog, especially those with reactivity issues. The gradual exposure to other dogs in a controlled environment helps these dogs learn to remain calm under pressure, while their owners gain the confidence needed to manage them in more comp

Exploring the bush with my puppy led to an exciting find—a hide! Which is now her favourite toy.
Using such finds in play can enhance her toy drive and keep her engaged.
Don't worry, it's all safe, in controlled conditions and part of her playful learning!
If you understand dog body language, when watching groups of dogs "play" or interact in the usual settings (dog parks & beaches but also small groups of friends & family getting together with their dogs), you will notice that the majority of the time, there are owners who think their dogs are playing.
But in reality, they are likely doing the following:
❗️Trying to evade another dog in fear of their safety.
❗️Stressed about the chaos they are standing in.
❗️Fearfully hiding in the corner, under a bench, or between their owner's legs.
❗️Jumping up on their owner in pleas for help.
❗️ Having to constantly tell another dog off for harassing them.
❗️Being mowed into the ground by an out-of-control dog.
❗️ Humping dogs as a displacement behaviour.
And the list goes on. Allow the above to go on for too long, and this is where fights occur and dog aggression or reactivity stems from.
This is why we shouldn't allow dogs to:
❌️ Rough play.
❌️Jump on each other.
❌️ Chase each other around uncontrollably.
❌️ Constantly pester another dog.
❌️ Invade each other's personal space.
Instead, dogs should behave as portrayed in our reel:
✅️Neutrality: Dogs should be calm and not overly excited or aroused.
✅️Respecting Each Other's Space: Dogs should understand and respect personal boundaries.
✅️ Low Arousal: Keeping excitement levels low to avoid unnecessary stress and potential conflicts.
✅️Respecting Boundaries: Ensuring each dog has their own space and isn't forced into interactions.
✅️ No Rough Play: Encouraging gentle interactions and avoiding any form of physical dominance or conflicts.
The benefits of such bbehaviouinclude:
➡️Positive interactions and socialization without the risk of developing aggressive behaviour
➡️ Reduced stress for both dogs and their owners.
➡️ Safer and more enjoyable environment for everyone involved.

Freya used to react towards other dogs.
👉Sometimes, it was due to excitement that resulted in the barking & lunging.
👉Other times, this behaviour ocoured due to Freya feeling concerned about the other dogs.
👉Freya used to pull on the leash during walks, which escalated her reactivity
👉Freya's behaviour made her owner worried & stressed when taking her on walks & challenging to pass other dogs.
After time, patience & hard work, Freya now:
✅️Ignores other dogs walking by
✅️Chooses to focus on her owner instead of the dog
✅️Remains in a heel position when passing a dog in narrow spaces
✅️Cab walk on a loose lead or heel position
✅️Can remain in a sit or down position while dogs pass by

When you teach your puppy (or dog) to ONLY lay down by sitting first & then crawling their front feet forward until they are in the laying position (Walk Forward Down)
👉 Can result in your puppy/dog disregarding the use or its hind legs & over using their front legs & chest.
➡️ This can lead to issues like weak hind legs, muscle loss, and excessive weight distribution to the front legs. Weight unevenly distributed long term isn't good.
When you teach your puppy (or dog) a fold back down by having them begin in a standing position & folding backwards until they are in the laying down position
👉 Results in your puppy/dog using its hind legs
➡️ Which helps to build up muscle, strength & coordination in the hind legs while still using the rest of their body.
➡️Additionally, when they go to stand up from laying down, they will again use their back legs to stand up.
📣 Important Note! 📣
Crawl/walk forward downs can be beneficial, but it's important to look at the larger picture, assess how your dog moves overall & if they are using their whole body. Here are some questions you could ask yourself:
1️⃣ When my dog lays down on its own, will they always choose to crawl forward, fold back, or a mixture of both?
2️⃣ When my dog is sitting or laying down & then chooses to stand up, do they use their hind legs to stand up, pull themselves up with their front legs or a mixture of both?
3️⃣ Does my dog have a lazy sit (legs kicked out to the side)
4️⃣ Does my dog have coordination in the back end?
👉If your dog predominantly uses their front end, this is a sign to make some changes to the way they move & in some cases seek veterinary or canine physio advise.
👉For new puppy owners, we want to set our puppy up for success to be able to use their hind & front end + not develop issues. Dogs will opt for the lazy & easy option if we allow, which isn't the fold back down.
