🐾CQ Pet Rescue reintroduces the return of Pet of the month (Previously Pet of the Week)🐾

The Pet of the Month for January 2025 is Dexter!!

Dexter is a distinguished middle aged, more mature bloke. He’s approx 6 and a half years old so he’s well and truely past his silly puppy stage. He came into care with his sister Lily due to no fault of their own.

This guy is one of our longest standing animals
In care at this stage. He’s been in care for 154 days and we are dying for him to find his forever home.

In this time he has lost a substantial amount of weight, spent some time out on a property where he improved his fitness dramatically and got his figure back.
He then came back into town and is being spoilt living his best life with a few older women to show off to. His harem if you will.

He’s proven to be good with other dogs (although excitable at the initial introduction) fine around cats and fantastic with kids of all ages.

Dexter is located in Emerald, comes microchipped, desexed, heartworm tested and up to date on vaccinations. His adoption fee is $365 with all that vetwork which saves you close to $700 if you were to pay for it yourself.

📣 Where are we located? 📣

We seem to get few of repeat questions and comments.

The first one is “where are you located? We would like to come in and see what animals you have”.

We don’t have a specific shelter or shop that people can come and visit. We’re a volunteer run organisation and everything is done from our private homes. Answering emails, organising viewings, booking vet appointments, this Facebook post I’m writing, and all our animals are fostered in private homes to ensure they get the exposure, love and training they deserve. Our vet bills and overheads already far outweigh the money that comes in for each adoption so there is no way we could afford rent on a facility like that on a regular basis nor staff to look after it.

This is why, sometimes it can take a little bit to organise a viewing. We have to work around our own paid jobs, our foster carers paid jobs and our family Commitments. We understand it can be frustrating when everyone is super excited to check out some fur babies but our free time is limited like anyone else’s.

The next thing we’ve noticed lately is a significant increase in adoption applications and foster carer applications from Rocky, Yeppoon and Gladstone. We are entirely based in the Central Highlands with 98% of our foster carers and animals residing in Emerald. This is due to working closely with the Central Highlands Regional Council and using local vets for all our vetting needs.
While we do adopt to people on the coast, more often than not once we reach out to organise a viewing in Emerald we’re met with some confusion and generally a polite decline to continue with the application for logistical reasons and we totally understand. 3 hours is a long drive to the thriving metropolis that is Emerald town meet a dog that you may or may not want to adopt.

We hope this clears up a few things for anyone living outside the CHRC area and will save some disappointment moving forward.

After a long, successful year of helping the beautiful furbabies:

▪️We have saved 137 animals so far.
▪️57 cqpr adoptions
▪️24 dogs
▪️36 cats
▪️6 currently in foster to adopt to be finalised later this month.
▪️41 sent away to other rescues to date.
▪️27 animals currently in care waiting for forever homes.
These numbers include 2 dogs that came into care heavily pregnant. One that started hunkering down to give birth within 24 hours of being dropped off.

We ran one of our always successful Desexing campaigns.
$15,000 in total.
$5,000 from the CHRC and $10,000 CQPR funds.
33 dogs and 27 cats successfully and safely desexed by the wonderful team at Gray Street Veterinary Clinic.

Selwyn, our Patron of Pets and arguably the most famous member of our team was awarded runner up in the “change makers award” and recycling over 200,000 containers for CQPR making a huge impact to the rescue and the environment. This was presented at an awards evening in Brisbane.

CQ Pet Rescue Inc. is taking a well deserved break.

We will be closed from Monday the 23rd of December through to the 30th of December so we can enjoy time with our loving families, friends and loved ones (our furbabies).

We wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy, safe new year.
