🐱💧 Is Your Pet Drinking or Urinating More Than Usual? 💧🐶

Have you noticed your furry friend’s water bowl is always empty? Excessive drinking and urination can signal health issues like kidney disease, diabetes, pyometra, or thyroid problems in both dogs and cats. 🐾✨

🔍 Here’s What to Watch For:
Measure Their Water Intake: Over the course of a week, track how much water your pet drinks.
Dogs: Normal is about 60ml per kilogram of body weight per day.
Cats: Normal is about 45ml per kilogram of body weight per day.
While pets may drink more with exercise or hot weather, consistent excess could indicate a health issue. 🚨

🐾 Meet Maddie – Our Compassionate and Skilled Veterinarian! 🐾

We're thrilled to introduce Dr. Maddie, a dedicated small animal veterinarian who has recently joined our team. After spending some time working near the beautiful beaches of Geelong, Maddie has returned to her hometown to continue her veterinary career, and we couldn't be luckier to have her! Maddie is passionate about expanding her surgical skills and building strong connections with both clients and their pets.

Maddie’s commitment to animal care goes beyond her professional duties. She has volunteered at the RSPCA Epping Veterinary Clinic, where she assisted with surgeries and general animal care. Additionally, she served as a Volunteer Visitor Guide at Healesville Sanctuary, where she helped visitors and handled large parrots, further showcasing her love for animals.

In her professional life, Maddie has a keen interest in surgery, clinical pathology, dentistry, and dermatology. When she’s not busy caring for animals, Maddie enjoys sewing, macrame, painting, pilates, and baking delicious treats to share with her colleagues.

Be sure to say hello to Maddie the next time you visit – your pets are in wonderful hands! 💖

🐾 **Ivy's Road to Recovery!** 🐾

Ivy recently underwent surgery on her right hind leg to address lameness caused by medial patella luxation and a torn cranial cruciate ligament. Our team combined two advanced procedures to help her get back on her paws!

**Surgery Highlights:**
- The stifle joint was stabilised with a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO).
- Medial patella luxation was corrected by deepening the patella groove and rebalancing the soft tissues.

Wishing Ivy a smooth and speedy recovery! 💖

🎉 Meet Dr. Andrew, Our Surgical Superstar and Resident Problem-Solver! 🎉

With a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from The University of Melbourne under his belt, Dr. Andrew didn’t stop there. He went on to pursue his interest in small animal surgery, earning memberships with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in 2001 and completing a Masters of Applied Science from The University of Sydney in 2010.

Dr. Andrew honed his surgical skills during 14 years as a regional GP in Mansfield, where he handled everything from routine cases to complex referrals. In 2012, he took on the role of staff surgeon for Animal Hospitals Australia (now National Vet Care), leading the surgical team across multiple Melbourne clinics for over 4 years.

These days, Dr. Andrew’s expertise in advanced diagnostics and minimally invasive surgery keeps him in demand. With ACE Vet Hospital as his home base, he’s here to tackle challenging cases and perform cutting-edge surgeries for both local pets and those referred by other clinics.

Dr. Andrew’s passion for learning never stops—he’s always exploring new technologies and pushing the limits of what’s possible in veterinary surgery. And when he’s not in the clinic, you can find him enjoying a good chat, a relaxing fish, or (ideally) both at the same time! 🎣💬🐾

🐶✨ Noticed Your Dog Slowing Down or Acting Grumpy? They Might Be Feeling the Effects of Arthritis! ✨🐶

Arthritis affects 80% of dogs over eight years old, with 20% showing signs by their first birthday. 😔 Even though it's common, the symptoms can be subtle, such as:
- Slowing down on walks 🚶‍♂️
- Hesitance to jump or climb stairs 🏡
- Becoming irritable with other dogs or during playtime 🐕🐾

But don’t worry—help is here! 🙌
**💡 We can help via:
1. Medical Management: Medications and supplements to ease discomfort and reduce joint inflammation.
2. Identification of Underlying Issues: Thorough orthopaedic assessment to ensure diseases such as cranial cruciate ligament rupture are not causing the decreased mobility.
3. Physical Therapy: Tailored exercises to strengthen muscles and joints.
4. Lifestyle Adjustments: Personalized advice to make daily life easier for your furry friend.

🐶👂 Notice Your Dog Scratching or Shaking Their Head? They Might Have an Ear Infection! 👂🐶

Ear infections can be quite uncomfortable for our canine companions. If you’ve spotted signs like persistent scratching, head shaking, or an unpleasant odor, it’s time to get them checked out!

**🔍 Common Signs of Ear Infections:
- Excessive scratching or rubbing of ears
- Constant head shaking or tilting
- Foul-smelling discharge
- Redness or swelling in the ear canal

**🩺 Here’s How We Can Help Your Pup Feel Better:
1. Thorough Examination: Using an otoscope, we’ll check for foreign bodies and ensure the ear drums are intact.
2. Accurate Diagnosis: We’ll take samples of the discharge to identify if yeast or bacteria are causing the infection.
3. Effective Treatment: We’ll prescribe the right medication and create a plan to prevent future infections.
