Adelaide Equine has had a transformative year thus far, with our previous breeding vet moving on to other things, along with many other changes around the clinic. As most of you know, there are exciting times ahead! But as goes hand in hand with times of change, there are a few disappointing factors - It seems that some of our clients do not feel a need to pay their outstanding invoices. So, a timely reminder that no matter which employee has administered a treatment, Adelaide Equine has provided the service, supplied the equipment, drugs, feed & paid employee salaries. This is such a disappointing post to write. However, it seems there is no way around this - clients with outstanding invoices will not be serviced in future. Barley grass seed alert🚨
We are starting to see barley grass seeds work their way into eyes, ears and mouths of horses.
Please look out for signs of discomfort as these seeds cause a lot of ulceration and inflammation where they lodge.

When he heard that our main girl , phantom, had a problem, he came to the rescue on a Sunday to give her open heart surgery with his welder.

We are looking for a part time employee for general horse-care & horse-handling duties, including but not limited to feeding, rugging, cleaning stables/yards, occasional property maintenance etc. A love for horses is essential & handling of young or difficult horses beneficial, may suit someone looking for work before school drop off or 2nd year visa, could split days between more than one applicant if necessary.
2 hours per day in the morning, preferably 7 days per week, from October 2022 - March 2023. The opportunity for greater hours and ongoing work may arise.

Equine Herpes Virus abortions:
To all our clients that let us work on their valued equine companions.
We have one more hurdle to get over , and that is to get your mares to carry their babies to full term and give birth to a live , healthy foal.
Equine Herpes virus can cause late term abortions or even cause a full term still born.
We are able to vaccinate for this which does significantly reduce the losses.
The suggested protocol is to vaccinate at 5, 7 and 9 months of gestation.
Unfortunately, every year we come face to face with the emotional and financial loss of what this virus can do.
Especially in pregnant mares that are exposed to competition horses.
As you can imagine, they go off to shows, pick up and bring back all kinds of viruses from other close contacts.
