Bouncy Bella waiting for her cytopoint injection!

Cytopoint is one of the options that our veterinarians look to, to help with itchy skin in dogs!

How Does Cytopoint Work?

🐾 Cytopoint works like your dog’s own immune system. It is specifically designed to target and neutralize one of the main proteins that send itch signals to your dog’s brain, which triggers scratching, licking and chewing.
🐾 Blocks a signal that triggers allergic itch
Relieves signs of itch such as scratching and licking
🐾 Allows red, irritated skin to heal.

Does your dog struggle with itchy skin? Book a health check to discuss with our vets, what can be done to help!

Good morning Molly. 🐾

Did you know that our cattery constantly plays calming music to keep your kitty calm and comfy? Research shows that music specifically designed for cats may keep them calm in stressful situations. It’s something little we like to do, to help your kitty adjust to their holiday home, so that they can start enjoying it sooner.

Beautiful Nash recently spent a day with us for some radiographs of his hips and hind legs, after being intermittently sore in his hind end.

His radiographs, alongside a thorough lameness evaluation indicated a diagnosis of lumbosacral disease. Lumbosacral disease is a condition that normally affects older, larger breed dogs, and impacts nerves in the dogs lower back and hind end.

Nash was such a good boy, and his pawrents and our medical team are working together to build a medical management plan to keep him nice and comfortable.

If your pet is showing signs of pain or discomfort, it is important to have this evaluated so that a plan can be developed to support them. Sometimes findings may be completely treatable, other times they can be managed to provide your pet with many more years of comfort, which is so important.

Let's Talk; Parasite prevention.

We all know that it's important, it's something the vets and the nurses tell us to do. But why?

Some of the primary parasites that affect cats and dogs in Australia include;
1. Fleas: External parasites that feed on your pet blood, causing discomfort, itching, and allergies.
2. Ticks: External parasites that feed on your dog's blood, potentially transmitting diseases or causing paralysis.
3. Heartworms: Internal parasites that live in your dog's heart and lungs, transmitted through mosquito bites.
4. Intestinal worms (e.g., hookworms, roundworms, whipworms): Internal parasites that live in your dog's digestive tract, feeding on nutrients and potentially causing digestive issues.
5. Mites (e.g., ear mites, sarcoptic mange): External parasites that cause skin irritation, itching, and infections.

It's essential to regularly monitor your dog for signs of parasites, such as scratching, chewing, or illness. Consult with your veterinarian for proper diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies.
Remember, prevention is key to keeping your furry friend happy and healthy!

16/04/2024

Lucy is a 1 year and 9 month old Cocker Spaniel who presented to Animalia Vet Clinic after her owner noted that she was straining to urinate, and she had noticed some blood in her urine.

Her clinical examination didn't reveal much so Dr Felipe recommended running some additional tests including urinalysis, and diagnostic imaging. These diagnostic tests were invaluable, indicating that Lucy had a large Bladder Stone.

Her owner was informed and there were two treatment options offered - medication and diet to see if the stones would resolve themselves, which could take weeks or months, and may not completely dissolve, or to have a surgical procedure called a cystotomy to manually remove the stones from the bladder. Lucy’s owners decided that surgery would be the best option for her.

That same day, Dr Felipe performed a successful cystotomy removing a 3cm in diameter stone, and was able to inspect the bladder for any further damage.

Lucy has since visited our clinic for multiple post operative checks, and is recovering well at home.

Lucy’s story is the perfect example of something seeming very small could be masking a bigger problem, so it is always worth a checkup if you suspect something is not quite right with your furry family members.
