For the coming couple of weeks to possibly even a month or so our Betty Bus will be out of action. 🥎

Therefore our adventure bus service has been put on hold and we have been busy coming up with a fun filled alternative. 🚌❌

Guess what happens when the manager has a soft spot for the misfit kids?? 🦁

A day specifically designed around giving all of the reactive and hard to deal with dogs the best day out of their lives 🎉

Often people with reactive or anti-social dogs are looking for safe & secure places to let their dogs run off leash! So there will be a lot of this happening in our compounds 🌱

Please note this day is also inclusive for social dogs. All dogs will have private and safe kennels to rest in, in between activities here at PPP. Social dogs can join our main daycare pack 🐶

Through leash walks and excursions to our local waterfalls your social dog may help make a difference in other dogs lives by giving them a friend to walk with (at a safe distance) and help teach them what it means to be neutral around their furry companions.

🤓For some context: all of our staff are well equipped in handling and safely managing difficult and highly aroused dogs.

The majority of the staff here at PPP have at least one pointy eared dog in our pack, and that usually means they are either selectively social or not at all; or at the very least a whole bunch of dog to handle.

We personally know what it is like to go for a walk in the community and experience the anxiety of approaching off leash dogs and triggers in the environment that might set our reactive dog’s off. Therefore we want to help take that stress off your hands 🙌

The day is $60 and for dogs who are already joining us for daycare or boarding on this day the extra cost is a small fee of $20!

Drop off is between 7am and 9am and collection is between 2pm and 5:30pm 🏡
To book in or for more information give us a call or email!

How to socialise your dog the right way ✨

Socialising your dog and exposing them to different environments are crucial aspects of dog training. This helps to create a well-adjusted dog that can remain calm around various stimuli. However, it’s important to realise that socialising your dog may not be exactly what you initially thought it was.

First, we will debunk what socialising is not:
🥊 Socialising is not letting your dog meet every dog on the street on a leash.
🥊 Socialising is not making your dog meet every person, even when it is clearly uncomfortable.

What is socializing? ☀️

Socialising is watching the world go by in a safe space and creating a positive association with new sights, sounds, smells, and textures. 🧘‍♀️

It involves introducing your dog to new people gradually without forcing it. 🙋‍♀️

One practical step is to find a dog trainer or class that allows you to work around other dogs or even assists you in socialisation. 👨‍🏫

Use positive reinforcement to reward calm behaviour with treats and verbal encouragement. 🍔

This could involve looking at a dog from a distance or hearing loud noises while the dog remains calm. 😌

Even if your dog is older or a rescue dog, there are ways to create neutrality using a counter-conditioning technique. 💖

Hi everyone,

In recent days we have seen more than an isolated case of Canine Cough at our facility and we have also been advised by our local vet clinics that there have been a number of cases treated in the Shoalhaven.

Canine Cough, whilst quite infectious, is generally not a serious condition in healthy, vaccinated dogs.

Below is an excerpt from the Pet Industry Association of Australia which will explain this

Canine Cough…….

One of the public relations problems for boarding establishments today is caused by a much-misunderstood dog disease called “Canine Cough”, Canine Infectious Tracheobronchitis, often improperly referred to as “Kennel Cough”. As a dog owner you should be aware of some of the facts about this disease.

What is “canine cough”?

Infectious Canine Cough is a highly contagious, upper-respiratory disease that is caused by a group of airborne viruses or bacteria. The incubation period of the disease is roughly 3-7 days. The main symptom is a gagging cough, sometimes accompanied by sneezing and nasal discharge, which can last anywhere from a few days to several weeks. Although this coughing is very annoying, it does not usually develop into anything more serious. However, just as with the common cold, it can lower the dog’s resistance to other disease thus increasing susceptibility to secondary infections, and so the dog must be observed closely to avoid complications.

How is it cured?

Just as in the case of the common cold, Canine Cough is not “cured” but must run its course. At times antibiotics may be prescribed to prevent secondary infection, and sometimes cough suppressants will be prescribed to reduce excessive coughing, but these medications do not attack the disease itself.

Does Canine Cough occur only in boarding establishments?

No. Since these viruses or bacteria can be present anywhere, and can travel for considerable distances through the air, they can affect any dog...even one which never leaves its own back yard. But Canine Cough is more likely to occur when the concentration of dogs is greater such as dog shows, boarding establishments, veterinary clinics and hospitals. Dogs can also be exposed while running loose or while being walked near other dogs.

Is it the boarding establishments fault my dog has Canine Cough?

No. most pet boarding businesses follow many steps to help prevent the spread of Canine Cough but no amount of supervision, sanitation or personal care can prevent a dog from catching an airborne virus. Good boarding establishments will require your dog to be vaccinated and show a vaccination certificate and then do everything they can to prevent and kill off a virus like Canine Cough. But at the end of the day the virus is spread from pet to pet not from the boarding establishment. As it can take up to 5 to 10 days to show any signs, a dog can come into a boarding establishment with canine cough and go home before any signs have shown in the pet. Just like if your child came home from school with a cold it’s no more the fault of the school than it is the fault of a boarding establishment should a pet develop this virus. Canine Cough is much like a common cold.

Can my dog be vaccinated to protect him against Canine Cough?

Yes! Vaccines against parainfluenza, adenovirus type 2 and Bordetella (in combination with other vaccines - distemper, hepatitis, and parvovirus) are routinely used as part of an adult dog’s vaccination program yearly check-up. It is important to note that the vaccines that are used to prevent Canine Cough are made from one strain of many different strains and therefore are not as effective against some strains as others. Your veterinarian is in the best position to recommend a program of preventive health care management depending on your pet’s needs.

Can’t the boarding establishment prevent my dog from catching Canine Cough?

Unfortunately, no....no amount of supervision, sanitation, or personalised care can prevent a dog from “catching” an airborne virus. All that a good boarding establishment can do is insist on immunisation against Canine Cough, refuse to board any obviously sick dog, listen and watch for any signs of sickness, and make sure that any dog requiring veterinary attention receives it as quickly as possible. Your Pet Industry Association member is devoted to your pet’s well- being. Look for their membership certificate proudly displayed.

If at any you are concerned about your dog’s health, you should always contact your Veterinarian

Please ensure that if you feel that your dog may have contracted Canine Cough, that you keep them rested up at home for at least two weeks to ensure they are healthy when they return. This will assist us in minimising the spread as much as possible.

Thanks very much from the team at PPP.

🌲NAME CHANGE🌲

Our Pawsitivity sessions have been such a popular new service. Most of the time the dogs opt for a peaceful nature walk along one of our purpose built trails for a sniff, a roll in some wildlife poo followed by a swim in the creek.

So we have decided to rename this service to:

SNIFFARI 🦁

These 30 minute enrichment sessions can be added to any daycare or boarding booking for $35. This will ensure your dog experiences a fulfilled adventure experience with one of our dedicated staff members 🐶

Ever wonder how on earth your dog is surviving at the park in the rainy, cold weather? ☔️

The unique concept of PPP is that we take pride in treating every single dog as our own. We also have a multitude of personal dogs so we are quick to spot a dog who despises the rain VS a dog who maybe loves frolicking in the mud. As we usually have one of each (a dog who is made of sugar and a dog who will still go for a swim in the creek even if it’s pouring)

We still let the dogs out the same amount of times as if it is sunny, we just structure it a little differently. We open all access gates to kennel rooms, compounds and our large hallway so the dogs can go down on the grass if they wish or otherwise they can just pop their heads out.

We also shorten the runs just a little and then give all of the dogs a towel dry so they are not wet in between runs or overnight!

If you provide a coat we are more than happy to pop this on overnight, however bedding and blankets we do try to limit in this weather otherwise our washing pile ends up looking like Mount Everest 🗻

Thanks and well wishes the Team at PPP 💚

A bit of a photo dump of our current and recent board and train superstars 💥

We ensure that a solid foundation of a desired behaviour is formed. We then facilitate a private session with you at the end of a board and train stay to show you how to keep practicing and reinforcing this behaviour so you can continue to achieve the final outcome!

The dogs have an absolute ball in our care participating in this program with our specialised training staff and I'm sure if they could leave us a review themselves it might look something like 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟❤️🐶
