Muzzle training is such a great idea as you never know when you may need it. While travelling, going to Bunnings or like my situation stopping them eating everything they find.

Muzzles can be a useful tool to keep your dog, and the people they interact with, safe. A muzzle is not only used for aggressive dogs. They can be used for grooming visits, new or stressful situations and even for dogs who can’t resist an unwise snack on something smelly on their daily walk.

To make the use of a muzzle a positive experience for your dog, it is important to know how to use it safely.

This means muzzles should be well fitted to your dog to avoid pain, injury or distress. Dogs should be able to undertake normal activities like drinking water or panting while wearing the muzzle.

Remember, a muzzle should only be used for short periods of time, with constant supervision.

Paved surfaces form the primary routes for our daily pet walks in built-up areas. On a hot summer day, the surface of a road may get as hot as 60 degrees Celsius; hot enough to cause second-degree burns.🌡️

Consider the health and well-being of your fur family by limiting your walk to the early morning, or after the change has cooled the roads and footpaths. You wouldn't like being made to walk barefoot on scorching hot concrete either.

SNAKE BITES :-

Your pet will need urgent treatment and Treatment involves an infusion of snake anti-venom, intravenous fluids & pain relief. A snake bite can be treated and the quicker treatment begins the more successful the outcome.

What to do if your pet is bitten:-

Remain calm and don’t panic. Keeping calm will soothe your pet and help minimise their distress and movement.
Apply a pressure immobilisation bandage if possible (similar first aid techniques as recommended for people), but do not use a tourniquet or restrict blood flow. Do not try to look for a bite mark or clean the bite site with anything.
Keep your pet calm and quiet, movement helps the venom spread around the lymphatic system, so the less they move, the more time you have.
Carry your pet to the car, do not allow your pet to walk if you can help it. Again, any restriction of movement helps.
Transport your pet to a vet immediately, and if possible, call the clinic to let them know you are on the way. They may also provide additional instructions, and be prepared for your arrival.

Symptoms can include:

Dilated pupils
Weakness in hind legs
Trembling
Drooling
Pale gums
Pacing around anxiously
Restlessness
Difficulty breathing
Vomiting
Panting
Collapse straight after being bitten, and then act normally for a period of time
Become comatose / unconscious
Bleeding from nose, mouth, bite site
Sudden death

As we head into warmer weather and drift closer to summer, our team have already noticed an increase in calls regarding beach related poisonings. From the weird and wonderful creatures which wash up on our pristine shores, to the sea water itself; please be mindful of the risks of beach adventures with your pets.

Spend a few minutes inspecting the shoreline before removing your pet’s leash, particularly in the days following strong onshore winds. If there are washed up jellyfish, bluebottles, pufferfish, or sea hares; keeping your pet leashed is a good idea. Where possible, do not to let your pet drink sea water and always offer regular fresh water during and after visits to the beach.

☎️ For all animal poisoning queries, you can call the Animal Poisons Helpline on 1300 869 738 (AU) or 0800 869 738 (NZ). Our service is free for all pet owners.

The Animal Poisons Helpline is proudly sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition. Their support helps to keep this service FREE for all pet owners in Australia and New Zealand.

Titer Tests: Pets’ Immunization Identifier 🐶🐱💪

Vaccine antibody titer testing has been endorsed by the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) since 2013 to help pet owners and veterinarians determine if pets are immunized and no longer need annual “booster shots.”

If you’re being pressured to re-vaccinate your pet and are concerned about over-vaccination, read today’s free article (link below) to learn more about titer testing.

Today’s free blog post is all about titer testing and vaccines for pets, read it here: https://bit.ly/3xQl6qx
