So wonderful to have Nathan and Nadine from Innate Equine here last weekend, with their new rehab horse Maggie. They brought her all the way up from Gippsland to collaborate with me to help her.

Ivy from Harmonious Hoof Care was another essential member of the team.

I'm feeling so fulfilled after this weekend, learning, teaching, and helping old friends and new.

Plus, Maggie has the most amazing moustache, which was the cherry on top 🥰

Returning to Work – Limited Spaces Available!

I'm excited to announce that I’ll be returning to work at the start of November after maternity leave. I will be accepting haul-in appointments only for trims and shoeing at my property in Freemans Reach.

For those needing to drop off & pick up for their appointment, I have limited spaces available, with two stables on offer while your horse waits.

If you're looking to get your horse's hooves in shape, now is the time to book!

Unfortunately I will not be able to offer appointments at other locations at this time, due to a certain 3 month old who hates the car!

Out in the sunshine with my helpers - I am SO close to being officially finished and handing over all my clients to my wonderful maternity leave colleagues. Look at that 31 week belly!

It is with the greatest consideration and respect that I, Lisa Agius-Gilibert, Kathryn Christieson, Megan Matters, and Raymond Eade, would like to share our joint decision to terminate our relationship with The International School of Integrative Hoofcare, Australia.

Within my business, I value transparency, respect and honesty and unfortunately, these values have not been upheld throughout our business relationship. We have chosen to walk away because we are owed a considerable amount of money for work we have carried out and for expenses we have incurred.

This has not been an easy decision for me to make, however, I need to do what is best for myself, my family, and my business.

I am grateful for all the opportunities and learning that Daisy Bicking has given me over the last 8 years. I wish her, the school and its students all the best in its future endeavours.

Attention clients!

I'm currently down with COVID. Yes, during my holidays 😭

It's knocked me around quite a lot, especially being pregnant. I've got horses that are way overdue since before Christmas that need to get done, and I'll have to reduce my workload as I come back to work.

I'm going to need to reschedule most clients in January back by about a week, maybe more. I will try to ensure the more urgent/rehab horses are seen sooner rather than later. Keep an eye out for your rescheduling email!

Your patience is very much valued and appreciated. I'm trying my best!

Happy holidays to all my wonderful clients, colleagues, friends and family!

As some of you know, I've been struggling a bit lately at work (especially in the heat), and I can finally share why.

Hoof pastern axis and the toe plane.

This horse had a broken back hoof pastern axis (HPA) before trim, on the left.

On the right, is the same foot after removing a little toe length and lowering the toe plane. The trim isn't even done yet, and we have a straight HPA!

So much rain and blasting sunshine lately!! It's lovely, the grass is coming back with a vengeance, but there are some very footsore horses around lately.

Our grass had been stressed during the dry spell, and is now short, growing rapidly, and PUMPING out the sugars!

What does grass do? It literally turns sunshine into carbohydrates. Carbs are sugar, and when your horse ingests a bunch of sugar, it causes an insulin spike.

Prolonged high insulin levels (for as little as 72 hours) have been shown to induce laminitis in horses (Nourian et al, 2009). Get your horses off the grass, reduce their carbohydrate intake, if they're sound, work them! Anything to counteract the high levels of insulin circulating their bodies right now.

Signs that your horse could be struggling right now are:

- Not moving out well over firm ground
- Unable to turn well over the forehand
- Suddenly hating walking on gravel
- Going sore after a normal trim
- Showing blood in the toe during trims
- Digital pulses
- Acting "naughty" under saddle

Picture of the very handsome Fatty, who says "thank you for keeping me safe!".
