📣 Hey all riders! 📣

In line with our flexible working arrangements 😝 (and also appreciating our parents that don't mind the odd late start for a Sunday), our rally day this Sunday will kick off with a 12pm arrival. ⏰

The weather forecast is 13 - 23 degrees so nice and cool! The only thing that will be HOT is our toastie machine with our afternoon toasties! 😋

Please arrive promptly for set up and troop drill before our rally commences. We are super excited for our poles and grids sessions plus kicking off our 2025 Pony Club Australia certificate work. 🙌

WOW! 🤩

We are STILL receiving such great feedback from our ‘Introduction to Polocrosse clinic'. A huge shout out to Polocrosse Association of New South Wales coaches – Kevin, Stan and Billy, for such an amazing clinic last rally day. Our riders are so keen for another clinic later this year. Anyone keen for an Interclub or Zone Polocrosse Challenge as a new idea – Zone 23 Pony Club and Zone 26 Pony Club? 🤔😂

It was great to see our returning riders along plus our lovely friends from Forest Hills Pony Club that joined us on the day, they were a super skilled polocrosse group by the end of the clinic!
We also welcomed a number of Come and Try riders too, we hope you had a great day and got a taste of pony club.

And of course a big thank you to Walker Meats for the best sausages for our BBQ and sausage sangers – everyone loved lunch! 🥪

The third Sunday of the month is a regular rally day run by our APC instructors, all Pony Club Australia National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS). NCAS is the coaching framework of the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). Sessions include flatwork, horse archery, tetrathlon, showjumping, sporting and PCA Certificate sessions work (theory and practical) and assessments.

🐴 Welfare Wednesday: Emergency Preparedness for Horse Owners 🐴

Bushfires and floods are a reality of life in Australia, and horse owners must take proactive steps to minimise risks and safeguard their animals. Preparedness is essential to ensure the welfare and survival of your horses during emergencies.

🌟 Long-term preparation measures include:

▪️ Microchipping: Ensure your horse is microchipped for permanent identification.
▪️ Float and truck training: Train your horse to load calmly and quickly onto a float or truck.
▪️ Emergency planning: Develop a comprehensive emergency plan that includes evacuation and safe zones for your horses.

🌟 Immediate actions in the face of imminent danger:

▪️ Relocation: Move horses to a safe, pre-designated area well ahead of advancing danger.
▪️ Internal gates: If evacuation by float is not possible, open internal gates to provide escape routes.
▪️ Remove rugs and halters: These items can burn or melt in extreme heat, causing severe injury.
▪️ Identification: Write your contact details on your horse’s hooves or hide for identification.
▪️ Emergency kit: Carry a kit containing photographs and proof of ownership, feed, water containers, a horse first aid kit, and essential supplies.

For detailed guidance, consult your local Department of Agriculture and fire authority. Taking these steps today can make all the difference during an emergency.

🌟 Arcadia Pony Club AGM and annual presentation event 🌟

We had an amazing night with our riders, families, instructors and volunteers on Saturday 30 November at The Vicar, Dural.

We thanked our outgoing Committee members and welcomed our new ones for 2025. We also celebrated the amazing achievements of our riders throughout 2024.

Arcadia Pony Club Inc. is one of the oldest pony clubs in the area. In 1970, Mr and Mrs Ted Graham formed the Arcadia Pony and District Riding Club at their property in Bay Road, Arcadia. It was interestingly only an adult riding club and was small in size with only a few families involved.

It was soon realised that the growth of the club could no longer continue at the Graham property and an approach was made to Hornsby Shire Council for the grounds at Johnson Road. The Club incorporated under NSW law in 1988 as Arcadia Pony Club Inc. After the equestrian facility was built at Bayfield Road, Galston, Arcadia Pony Club commenced in 2009 at our amazing new grounds.

With our proud history comes beautiful tradtions and narratives - and our Perpetual trophies awarded at our annual presentation event are always sought after.

Introduction to Equestrian Vaulting clinic with Wellington Park Equestrian 🐴🤸 💃

What a simply amazing clinic today! Our riders from Arcadia Pony Club Inc. and Forest Hills Pony Club plus some new to pony club riders all learnt so much about one of the Pony Club Australia’s discipline of the month - Equestrian Vaulting.

Equestrian Vaulting is described as dance and gymnastics on horses - what’s not to love? 🥰

Our riders today learnt:
✅ What equestrian vaulting is 🐴
✅ The role of the vaulter, horse and lunger 🤔
✅ All the gear and what’s allowed/not allowed
✅ Whilst most vaulters compete as individuals - the sport is very much focused on the triangular relationship of trust and kindness between the vaulter, lunger and the horse 🧡
✅ Vaulters train many hours a week on mats and barrels and “movies” (mechanical horse) before training moves on the horse 🤸
✅ Vaulting horses are not just “vaulting” horses - they are ridden and cross trained in other disciplines which helps them enjoy their vaulting time 😊
✅ Vaulting is very much focused on the wellbeing of the horse and there are specific limits on their competition time 🤗
✅ The preliminary moves and some basic Pas De Deux moves on the barrel and movie 💪
✅ Vaulting demonstrations from the WP team! 🙌

Our vaulters also got to meet the gorgeous Franzi - Ginger’s competition horse - who at 18 hands was way taller than all of our vaulters lol - but he was very sweet and loved meeting them all and helping with the overview of vaulting gear.

There was also a lot of love for the gorgeous dogs at Wellington Park who also all received lots of cuddles today! (Especially Red Dog!)

With the amazing feedback from today we are now planning a holiday clinic or another clinic early next year with Wellington Park.

Arcadia Pony Club Inc. and Wellington Park Equestrian are very excited to partner for an exclusive clinic: Introduction to Equestrian Vaulting. 🤩

Join Ginger Kennett, Australia’s #1 Equestrian Vaulter, placing 16th at the FEI Senior World Championships in July 2024, along with Georgie Kennett, FEI Level 1 Vaulting Coach and Lunger for this educational and inspiring clinic!

Vaulting is an individual or team equestrian sport that combines dance and gymnastics in harmony with a moving horse. Vaulting improves a rider’s seat, confidence, balance, rhythm and coordination. 💃🤸🐴

Wellington Park Equestrian is a specialised vaulting training facility focusing on strength and conditioning specific to vaulting.

The session is at 8am for 2.5 hours and includes a vaulting demonstration plus morning tea. The clinic is approximately 1.5 hours from Arcadia so we encourage carpooling.

Any plans for the long weekend? How about coming to try polocrosse with Arcadia Pony Club Inc.? We are VERY excited to have coaches joining us from the Polocrosse Association of New South Wales for an 'Introduction to Polocrosse' clinic. 🥰

When: Sunday, 6 October 2024
Where: Arcadia Pony Club, Mansfield Rd, Galston

Polocrosse originated in Australia in 1939, and is an Australian made game, which is now played Internationally. Polocrosse is an action-packed, team sport often referred to as rugby on horseback. It is a family orientated sport with grades to cater for all levels of ability from the novice through to highly experienced and competitive riders. 🙌

This clinic is offered by our club and FREE for all registered riders at our beautiful grounds at the Rural Sports Facility (entry via Mnasfield Rd) in Galston. 🌟
