Zeus had a very, very long beak! But doesn’t he look handsome after his visit with Dr Kathy who sculptured his beak back to a normal shape.
Birds should NOT need a beak trim, there is a MEDICAL PROBLEM if your bird has an overgrown beak They will need a veterinary examination and blood test to investigate the underlying illness.
The long beak can be managed whilst we are treating the cause of the medical condition.

🪿🪶 Meet Goose 🪿 🪶

Goose is actually a Gouldian finch which is MUCH smaller than a real goose and at 17g is only a little heavier than a 50c coin. 🪙
Goose has an amazing owner who noticed that he was passing a lot of urine. Dr Kathy took a blood test from Goose to diagnose that he has diabetes. Goose has started medication to control his diabetes and is feeling much better now

Avian influenza 🐔🐓
☣️UPDATE ☣️
Avian influenza has now been confirmed at two commercial poultry farms (an egg layer farm and a chicken meat farm) in the Hawkesbury area June 2024.

Find out more about the Avian influenza emergency order please see:https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0011/1564472/AI-Plain-English-Guide_June24.pdf

🛑 If you live in the Emergency Zone please be aware that NO MOVEMENTS of birds are permitted into, within or out of the Emergency Zone.❗️ Exemptions may be provided upon the granting of a movement permit by NSW DPI. In order to apply for a movement permit, send an email to:

📧 [email protected]

‼️Remember to protect your birds! 🐔🐦🐓🦜🦃🪿 Poultry and birds are to be housed in a way that prevents contact with wild birds. Feed, water and bedding materials should also be controlled to prevent wild bird access. Ideally, this means poultry are kept in a secure house or aviary. If this is not possible, netting, or similar modes of confinement should be used.!☣️

Wildlife carers: 🦅🐦‍⬛The Emergency Order applies to wild birds in the care of wildlife rehabilitators within the Emergency Zones.

Keep up to date with at:

If you see unusual signs of disease or suspect an exotic disease in your poultry, immediately call the Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) Hotline 1800 675 888.

Avian influenza 🐔🐓
☣️ALERT!! ☣️
NSW DPI has implemented an emergency order to help manage the current case of avian influenza.

For more information please see:
https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/animals-and-livestock/poultry-and-birds/health-disease/avian-influenza

If you are concerned that your poultry is showing symptoms please call the Animal Biosecurity Emergency Hotline on 1800 675 888

Avian influenza was detected at commercial poultry farm in the Hawkesbury Area on June 19, 2024. The impacted property is under quarantine, and NSW DPI is working closely with the impacted property using well-established national response arrangements to manage the outbreak.

Importantly the HPAI H7N8 strain detected in NSW is NOT the same as the H5N1 strain that is causing concern globally and is NOT connected to the Victorian outbreak.

If you live in the Emergency zone protect your birds! 🐔🐦🐓🦜🦃🪿Confine ALL birds kept on the premises within enclosed areas that prevent contact with wild birds or potentially contaminated feed and water!☣️

If you see unusual signs of disease or suspect an exotic disease in your poultry, immediately call the Emergency Animal Disease (EAD) Hotline 1800 675 888.

MICROCHIPPING \\

Meet Teddy, our handsome African grey model.

Teddy recently had a health check with Dr Kathy before having a short anaesthetic to be microchipped.
Microchipping your birds is not a legal requirement like it is for dogs and cats, but is the only method of permanent identification.
Most birds are able to be microchipped except for the really small ones unless special circumstances are discussed with an avian veterinarian

When microchipping birds at Galston Veterinary Clinic, it includes lifetime registration on a national database.
**It is important for owners to update their details if they move or your details change
