So this is a little different, no animals but still a super important process that should be standard.
Cleaning and maintaining equipment such as clipper blades.
- infection control
- efficiency on the blades
- temperature management
(don’t want hot blades)
Remember to oil your blades frequently even whilst grooming a dog.
Ignore my pile of clean towels - have to fold them and put them away. It’s never ending.

So yesterday I clipped a pony, today a bunny.
🐇 Rabbits have super delicate skin and are quite difficult to clip due to the texture of their fur.
Sometimes just like cats and dogs they require assistance with grooming.
Why does grooming a dog sometimes take time?
This video demonstrates some of the reasons why.
I try to make the dog process as stress free as possible, and still get the job done as it is in their best interest.
This is little Finn and he does not like being groomed. This is only the 2nd time I have done him.
Step 1 - Cleanse dog (Shampoo)
Step 2 - Release fur (Conditioner)
Step 3 - Finish spray and blow dry (Helps dry and seal coat)

Less bad breath.
Reduce chances of gingivitis.
Reduce plaque and tartar build up.
Saves dollars on Veterinary dentals.
Reduces chances of getting nasty tooth ache.
Cons
We can be squirmy and resistant.
No different to the battle of asking “did you brush your teeth?” to the kids.

There is really only benefits to teeth brushing and looking after your pets oral hygiene and health.
So there is bit of a preconceived notion that a pet groomer is lazy if they shave your dog short.
Yes sometimes it can be the case, but most of the time it is in the best interest of the dog.
If we can not easily get our blades through the coat then that means there is fur pulling on the dogs skin, yes we can attempt to brush/comb it out. But it does hurt after a period of time and is uncomfortable and time consuming. It sometimes has to be done over multiple sessions which also then becomes expensive and for what??
It grows back.
If you struggle with brushing and combing speak to your groomer about going on a more frequent schedule if wanting to keep length.
Otherwise you are just going to have to accept the fact that if they come in with knots and matts on occasions we made need to go short.
Hugo is well loved and his parents completely understood the need to take him short on this occasion. This video is purely to show you what trying to clip matted hair is like for the dog.
