We have been receiving calls about a deceased dog that has been put next to a bus stop on Hanford Road (near St. Flannans catholic school). We have called the council and they have advised they will pick the dog up in the next 8 hours.

Did you know? We are proud to work with Dr Ema Bowman to offer BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) surgery to Brachycephalics like French bulldogs, Australian bulldogs, Pugs, Griffons, Boston terriers etc. at Vets in Zillmere.

With considerably reduced airways, we see brachycephalic (squishy face) breeds of dogs showing many abnormal symptoms like loud breathing, snoring, exercise intolerance, extended times recovering from exercise, and gastrointestinal signs like regurgitation or burping. Some other issues only show on bloods due to poor oxygenation of organs.

BOAS surgery increases the airways of these dogs through increasing the flow of air through the nostrils and the throat, with removal of excess tissue. We’ll not show you the throat surgery photos as we might break the internet as not everyone can handle such images! But lovely Billie, one of our BOAS patients this week, is displaying one part of her surgery - her lovely big nostrils! One of the main comments made post surgery is how much more sniffing these dogs do post operatively, as they can now can smell more. Owners notice less noisy breathing, improved sleeping, increased exercise tolerance, and a generally happier dog.

Having increased airways will help Billie, and other dogs like her, to lead a more normal life. We would love to see breeders working towards reducing the issue, by breeding for dogs with longer snouts, but in the meantime we are here to help those already in the world.

For more information, if you have a squishy face you’d like to discuss please call us on 07 3265 1901 (Monday to Friday 8-5:30) or email [email protected]

Our lovely groomer Tina has to have surgery on her knee for a torn meniscus 😬 She will be here this Tuesday but then off for 2-3 weeks for surgery.

Being a groomer is physically tough and Tina has been struggling with the bigger dogs without other groomers around to help. She has been a groomer for a long time and like many professionals working with animals you get quite physically broken! We have decided to only offer grooming for dogs up to 15kg to prevent Tina breaking herself anymore!

Speedy recovery Tina! ❤️
