Just like us humans, dogs go through the cycle of pain when exposed to a stimuli that creates and injury.
It is always a shock as an owner when our pup might hurt themselves.
So what is the process we see when our pup has hurt themselves?

Example: What is the process if one of our dogs is playing with another, jumps up and lands awkwardly 👇

Injury: The cycle of pain often begins with an injury, such as a cut, burn, or muscle strain.

Inflammation: The injured area becomes inflamed as the body's natural response to injury, causing swelling, redness, and heat.

Nerve Signaling: Specialised pain receptors in the affected area send signals to the brain, indicating that something is wrong.

Perception of Pain: The brain receives and processes these signals, and the dog perceives the sensation as pain, which can vary in intensity. (Limping, whimpering etc)

Response and Healing: The body responds by protecting the injured area and initiating the healing process, which may include rest, immune responses, and tissue repair.
The worst case may result in surgery.

This cycle of pain is a natural and protective response to injury, designed to alert the dog to potential harm and promote healing.

Failing to diligently monitor the gait could result in the oversight of significant contraindications in the dog's condition.
