Seeing Marco go from Helicopter woo hoo on the lead, darting and pulling to sniff everything to this, has been very rewarding. He settles at night, stays calm in Public and walks like a dream!

His owners have been amazing with their efforts in training and now this 7 year old boy gets to spend the elder years more relaxed!

Apologies if I haven't returned any missed calls the last couple of weeks! My voicemail has been full, and I didn't know until now!
I never answer during training sessions so I do miss a lot of calls. Please always leave a message!

I sometimes don't call back if no message is left as I assume they are spam calls, because I get a few every day!
Message are all deleted and ready again.

2 Common Mistakes with Dogs - Expecting Behaviours & Accepting Behaviours

Too often, new dog owners expect and accept behaviours just because of a dog's breed or age. This can lead to issues like barking, jumping, and anxiety when the dog reaches 8+ months.

❌ Breed Excuses:
"I have a Dachshund, so barking is normal."
"My Staffy is just excitable."
"My Border Collie needs tons of exercise."

📌 Reality Check: Dogs are dogs. Every breed can jump, bark, and pull on the lead if not trained properly. Allowing unwanted behaviors to persist in puppies sets them up for problems as they grow.

🌱 Start Training Early: Address behaviors you don't want immediately. Short, consistent training sessions can make all the difference. Be patient, and remember: training is about consistency and repetition.

🐾 Seeking Help: A dog trainer can guide you, but it's up to you to commit to the process. It's like going to the gym—you have to put in the work to see results!

🐕 Remember: Your dog is just being a dog. With proper training, mental stimulation, and exercise, natural behaviors can be managed.

Give your dog a pat for me!

Scott

Dogs and Your Words... Keep It Simple!

Shut Up: Avoid yelling at your dog. Use tone over volume to communicate. Yelling teaches dogs to ignore calm commands.

Tone Matters: High-pitched tones can overstimulate dogs, leading to loss of focus. Use calm, firm tones instead.

Eye Contact: It's key! Praise your dog for making eye contact—it's a sign of attentiveness and connection.

Noisy Environments: Noisy homes can lead to loud, barking dogs. Create a calm atmosphere to reduce noise and barking.

Simple Commands: Use clear, consistent commands like "Sit," "Stay," and "No." Less chatter, more clarity.

Reward Calmness: Praise your dog calmly for good behaviour. You can't over-praise calmness!

Silence Is Golden: Constant chatter leads to dogs tuning out. Less talking means more responsive dogs.

💡 Remember, dogs learn from calm, consistent communication. Love your dog back by keeping it simple!

Give your dog a pat for me!

Cheers,
Scott

Lead Control = Better Behaviour!

A dog that's calm and under control on a lead is almost always better behaved overall. From day one, regardless of breed or age, make lead control your main focus! Your goal? A loose lead, with your dog calm and focused on you. This makes future training so much easier.

Just Google "loose leash training" and you'll find tons of methods. Pick one, stick with it, and be consistent! The key is repetition and consistency.

My #1 priority in early training is getting my dog relaxed and comfortable on a lead. Start at home or in low-distraction areas, keeping sessions short but frequent. 5 minutes, 10 times a day. Gradually introduce more distractions once they're ready.

Signs you might need more lead training:

* Biting the lead
* Dragging you
* Pulling towards the door
* Spinning at the sight of other dogs
* Lunging or stopping in public

Do your dog a favor and focus on loose lead training in all environments. It'll mean more fun and less stress for both of you!

Cheers,
Scott

I've been working with these 2 handsome fellas for a couple of sessions now. Still more to go.

Built super tough and ultra smart. Almost too smart for their own good!

We're working on some pretty full-on aggressive reactivity and some overall behaviour changes. They're coming along great.

Today, I almost broke them! I mentally tortured them with some very calm, yet very straight to the point, "no dominant crap with be tolerated" Haha... it was quite amusing watching them try all of their tricks to win.

Next session, we step it up more! I can't wait!

Last night my wife Lucia attended the launch of the Geelong Small Business Festival thanks to the and . I'm looking forward to attending a few of the sessions throughout the festival, as I have for the last few years, but didn't attend last night as I was of the assumption that there'd be no dogs.... I was wrong, Lucia found one at the stand!
