🐾🐾🐾 With only 1 dog training session today, no kids and no wife, my time will be divided into equal parts of computer work, making recall leads for the upcoming πŸ•πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί and watching the NBA finals.

In between that, I'll try and clean the house I suppose πŸ€”

Orrr... send your dog in an uber with a note attached.... I'll look after them and get back to you on the following Monday!

Come and say Hi at the next

It's always a pleasure working with people dedicated to their dogs. Dog training is about being consistent, disciplined, and committed to change and repetition.

A well trained dog will always be a happy dog in our human world.
Don't strive for the pretend perfection that social media tries to convince you is real... be realistic, be patient, and be good to your dog because they deserve it!

This last fortnight, I've had 3 dog training sessions cancel before I ever met the owner or dog.
These 3 dogs we adopted/fostered dogs. All 3 were given up before we even started the first training session.

2 dogs lasted less than 1 week, 1 dog lasted less than 2 weeks.

Please have a read if you are thinking of adopting a dog....

The following are some snippets from a blog on my website...

Regardless of who you adopt your dog through or where this dog was prior, you are receiving a dog that requires training. More than likely, it requires a lot of training!

The dog has ended up at a pound/shelter because it has not had sufficient training. (Almost always, there might be exceptions like a deceased estate, etc)

A dog in a pound or foster situation will not act like the dog you end up with after it is at your home for 2 - 4 weeks. The first 2 weeks is probably relatively easy.

Every dog learns things quickly if you repeat them... good and bad!

I have worked with a huge amount of people and their adopted or fostered dogs over the years and a common trend happens... They hope love and kindness and spoiling the dog will save it. It doesn't. It's nice to do this but it is nicer to train the dog.

No amount of treats, puppachinos, scarfs, harness that match their lead, custom collars, fancy jackets, cuddles, kisses, cosy beds, their own Instagram page or any of the other things us humans like to do for the adopted dogs or any dog (actually that's all for the humans needs) has EVER or will EVER stop or prevent -

- A dog barking all day while you're at work

- Separation anxiety

- A dog destroying everything

- Resource guarding - Super common for pound dogs

- Food Aggression - Super duper common for pound dogs

- Lead reactivity (almost every adopted dog I've worked with both reactive in an excited or aggressive way)

- Bad recall off lead

- Barking at the neighbors fence

- P*e p*e and poo poo inside

- Jumping on guests

ETC.

Training a dog prevents or stops these.

Please think long and hard before simply adopting a dog with your emotions. Adopt them responsibly.

While I know I should be more active on social media, I simply don't like it that much! Im very private, extremely introverted and only like my family and every dog... haha!

I'm still out there every day working with owners to help dogs a better life. It's that simple.

Have a great weekend all!

Little Molly was one of today's

This first session was simply a reset.

At 11 months old and hopped around from home to home a few times, we're simply going to work on lowering her ability to get really overstimulated by many triggers.

Once we get a calmer foundation, this little girl is going to chill out and remember all of her early training and have the ability to do it with much more focus.

Training an over stimulated dog is tough work. Training a calm dog is easy.

Hey all - we've made the difficult decision not to go to the dog lovers market today. We love this event but think it will simply be too hot to be there today.
For those that were planning to see us for a conversation on training please feel free to call for a chat, and for those that were wanting a lead we have popped market prices and free shipping online, and can arrange local pick up if you need it sooner!

For those that are going, enjoy the day and keep cool! And give your dog a pat (and cold drink) from me!

These dog water bottles by are so awesome!
Bonkers was glad to have them at this mornings private public training session. Then we went straight into a recall class which was great fun.

Puppy class just finished and that's me done for the day! Time to relax and stay cool! Have a great long weekend!

Give your dog a pat for me!

International Women's day!

This woman is way better than all other women combined! (This comment probably doesn't help with any equality but oh well) She's also raising another amazing micro woman and a micro me.

She's literally the one who keeps everything in our home together and somewhat sane, but in her own right, she has built a super successful career.

I once said to a group of people and almost got attacked and dismembered, because I don't think before I speak... that "It was easy to start a family with her because I know if things went bad she'd be perfectly capable of being a great single mother"
I actually meant that She's always been a strong, independent woman with or without me! Anyways I'll shut up now...

Taylah is making some great progress with her Kelpie and Deaf Blue Heeler! 2 highly energetic and stubborn breeds!

We simply had a good chat during an online session, and I gave her a few things to start with and we're getting somewhere!

Keep up the great work Taylah!

Marco the Lagotto. Today, we worked on taking his focus off the rest of the world, calming him down and getting him back to remembering his owners exist while out in public.

He's 7 years old and has some fairly ingrained habits. But all old dogs can always learn new tricks!

I'm really looking forward to our next session next week! He has dedicated owners, and I know I'm going to see a huge difference!
Next week... I'm bringing a spotted apprentice to add some extra distractions!

Good feedback is always appreciated, but the dedication to the training by the owner is what I appreciate way more!
Sometimes, it's not a quick fix and take consistency, even with a 7 year old dog. This has been a few months in the making to get Meshki to this point. I'm proud of Meshki and his owners!

This morning, Bonkers and I worked with Rufus out in the real world to help his reactivity with other dogs. We got Rufus calm, and he was able to hang out and perform his tricks and stay focused on his owner for the whole almost the entire session. We pushed him hard! He was buggered by the end!
This was our 2nd session together, and he's doing amazing!

Hosted by and located at it's always exciting to see loads of local dog related businesses team up and put on a fun day for all!

Pop it in the calendar and come check it out! If you're interstate, book flights and accommodation now as it will be cheaper!

Did a weight test on my recall leads as I get asked a lot if they are heavy because a lot of others are heavy and get heavier when wet.

I've been making these for myself for a few years now and chose this design and webbing for a few reasons -

πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί The webbing is Australian Made.

πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί The material is super light and strong with a breaking strain of 250+ kg - No, your 40+kg Amstaff won't break it... if it runs off out of control, you get hurt or your dog does... train your dog before buying anything from me, please.

πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί They don't catch burs and thistles etc. When dragged through grass.

πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί They don't hold a lot of water and dry out super fast!

πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί They are made right here in Geelong by Me!

πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί I use them at every recall class and at a lot of my private training sessions

πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί I have used horse lunge leads, hand spliced Telecom rope, biothane and rivets, bailing twine and just about every other long ropey thing at my disposal for the last probably 25 years and these are what I've settled on.

The weights - (give or take as these are never identical because they are hand made)

5 Metres - 114 grams dry, 190 grams wet
7 Metres - 159 grams dry, 266 grams wet
10 Metres - 208 grams dry, 363 grams wet

*Note - They are NOT chew resistant. Any dog can chew through them if they have a good enough go. If your dog chews through leads, it is not the leads fault. It is not the dogs fault. It is the owners fault every single time. You need to take reasonable of your dog and its actions as their bad behaviours are due to a lack of responsible training from the owner.

You know the old saying "7 in Human Years" when we refer to a dogs development? I agree to some point. They certainly develop faster than use in terms of years!

This here is some info on dogs and what I think with their ages. Have a read! Tell me how wrong I am. Tell me it's relatable. Tell me anything! I really don't mind!

Here is a write up on what I think a lot of people unfortunately do wrong with their dogs. It's not the owners fault! Blame the internet!

These 2 mistake are - Expecting Behaviours. Accepting Behaviours. What I am noticing more and more often these days, is new dog owners expecting and accepting a dogs behaviour because of its age or breed. This is directly resulting in people with new puppies struggling with such things as barking, n...

Yesterday's Older Puppy Class was a lot of fun watching these 3 young dogs learn a little more control and restraint around others.
We worked on being calm around people and dogs, a little bit of loose lead walking, when to take back control during zoomie play!
All 3 had a blast and would have been knackered when they got home!
There's nothing better than controlled chaos!
