X-rays are one of the many valuable tools in veterinary medicine, allowing us to see beyond what’s visible on the surface. Using safe, low-dose radiation, X-rays create detailed images of bones, joints, and internal organs—helping us diagnose a range of conditions quickly and painlessly.
Our on-site X-ray facilities mean we can assess your pet’s health in real-time. This is especially important in emergencies or when a fast diagnosis leads to faster treatment!
X-rays help us detect:✅ Fractures and bone injuries✅ Arthritis and joint problems✅ Swallowed objects and blockages✅ Lung and heart conditions✅ Dental disease and hidden tooth issues
With modern imaging technology and a compassionate team, we ensure your pet’s comfort while getting the answers needed for the best care possible.
📍 Available at all Vets of Geelong locations. If your pet isn’t quite themselves, book a consultation today! 🩺✨

🐶 The Importance of Puppy Socialisation! 🐶

Did you know that puppies have a critical socialisation window between 3 to 16 weeks of age? During this time, they’re most receptive to new experiences, helping shape them into confident, well-adjusted adult dogs. Proper socialisation reduces fear, anxiety, and behavioural issues later in life.

But socialisation isn’t just about meeting other dogs—it’s about positive, controlled experiences with people, sounds, surfaces, and environments. That’s why our Vets of Geelong Puppy Classes provide a safe, vet-approved setting for your pup to learn and grow alongside other healthy, vaccinated puppies!

✔️ Supervised play with other puppies
✔️ Gentle exposure to new experiences
✔️ Guidance from our dedicated and highly experienced dog trainer, Lisa
✔️ A fun and positive learning environment

Give your pup the best start in life—enrol in our puppy classes today! 🐾 🐕

Meet Kaiba, a brave 12-week-old pup who had quite the adventure! After breaking all four of his metatarsal bones, he underwent surgery at GARS (Geelong Animal Referral Services) to get back on the road to recovery.

Kaiba recently visited our Lara clinic for a post-op check and is doing well. In a few weeks, he’ll return for follow up X-rays to ensure his fractures are healing properly. Keep resting up, Kaiba you’re doing amazing! ❤️

☀️ Hot Weather Alert for Geelong Pet Owners! ☀️

With some warm days ahead, it’s important to help our furry friends stay cool and comfortable. Some pets are more at risk of heat stress, including senior pets, large breed dogs, and brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds like Bulldogs, Pugs, and Persian cats.
Here are a few simple ways to keep them safe in the heat:

🐾 Plenty of Water & Shade – Ensure your pet has access to fresh, cool water and a shady spot to rest or inside in the air conditioning.

🐾 Cooler Walks – Walk your dog early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are lower and surfaces aren’t as hot.

🐾 Cooling Treats & Mats – Frozen treats or cooling mats can help keep pets comfortable.

🐾 Avoid Hot Cars – Even a short time in a parked car can be dangerous. If heading out, it’s best to leave pets at home in a cool space.

🐾 Watch for Signs of Heat Stress – Heavy panting, excessive drooling, weakness, or lethargy can be signs of overheating. If you notice these, move your pet to a cool area and contact our team for more advice.

🐾 For our high-energy dogs who love to chase the ball – try to avoid these activities for the next couple of days. Even the most enthusiastic pups can overheat quickly in warm weather. Instead, opt for gentle indoor games, short early morning walks, or some fun with a frozen treat!

🐍 Watch out for snakes! Warmer weather means snakes are more active, especially in bushy areas, parks, and near water sources. Keep dogs on a lead during walks and avoid long grass or rocky areas. If you suspect your pet has been bitten, seek veterinary attention immediately.
Let’s keep our pets safe and happy this summer! 💙🐶🐱
