🐾 Pet Wellness Health Checks: Prevention is Key! 🐾 At Belmont Veterinary Centre, we believe in the power of preventative care to keep your pet healthy and happy. That’s why we recommend Wellness Health Checks 6 months after your pet’s vaccination wellness visit.

Here’s what you can expect during a Wellness Health Check:

🔍 Basic Health Check – We’ll check your pet’s weight, blood pressure, temperature, skin, eyes, and ears. Plus, we’ll get an update on how your pet has been since we last saw them

❤️ Vet Examination – Our vet will assess your pet’s heart, lungs, bones, and muscles, and address any concerns

💉 Wellness Blood Test – to help us check for any changes in their health & identify problems before symptoms appear, so we can address any issues early and prevent them from becoming more serious. Catching problems early means we can start treatment sooner!

Cats have an incredible homing instinct, helping them find their way back home—even from long distances! Scientists believe this is due to their ability to sense the Earth's magnetic fields, kind of like their own internal compass. How cool!

However, for the safety of your pet and our wildlife, it’s always best to keep cats indoors or in secure outdoor enclosures. Roaming cats are at risk of accidents, diseases, and fights, and they can (and too often do) also harm our native wildlife.

We know vet visits can be a little overwhelming for our feline friends, so we’ve made sure to create a calm and cat-friendly environment for them.
Here’s how you can help make their visit as stress-free as possible:

🐱 All cats must be in a carrier – this keeps them safe and helps them feel more secure
🐱 We have a dedicated cat consultation room - no dogs allowed!
🐱 We have a separate waiting area for cats, away from any curious canines
🐱 We use feline-friendly, fear-free techniques – including calming pheromones in our cat areas to help reduce stress

If your kitty gets extra nervous, let us know – we’re always happy to offer tips to make their visit smoother!

🐶 All dogs must be on a leash – this helps keep them and other pets safe
🐾 Be mindful of other dogs – some might be feeling unwell or a little anxious, so giving them space helps everyone stay comfortable

Good mews, cat parents! We have a limited supply of FIV vaccinations back in stock. If your feline friend needs their FIV vaccine, you can call the clinic on (03) 5241 2388 or book online.

Don't forget: We're open on Saturdays from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM!

The FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) vaccine is particularly beneficial for outdoor cats due to their increased risk of exposure. Discuss with your vet to determine if the vaccine is recommended for your kitty!

Dr. Emily brings a wealth of experience in both small and large animals, with a special passion for pocket pets—especially rabbits and ferrets! 🐰🐾 She has pursued further studies in clinical pathology, rabbit anaesthesia, and medical oncology, making her a fantastic addition to our clinic. Outside of work, she loves gardening, horse riding, and adventures with her two daughters. 🌿🐴

Did you know your pet’s teeth need care too? 🦷

Dental health is just as important for pets as it is for us, but it’s something many pet owners overlook. Without proper care, plaque and tartar can build up, leading to gum disease, tooth loss, and even more serious health problems like heart or kidney disease.

Signs your pet might need a dental check-up ⬇️

◾️ Bad breath (it’s not just “doggy breath”!)
◾️ Yellow or brown tartar on their teeth
◾️ Red or swollen gums
◾️ Difficulty eating or chewing
◾️ Pawing at their mouth or drooling more than usual
