Over the course of the next month, you may notice an increase in dead bees at the entrance to your hive.
Safely!!! Look at them.
Gather some up and check them.
You may notice they are shiny, hairless and maybe a little damaged. Their tongues may be out but this simply means they died. Other signs tell us HOW it might have happened.
These are often WINTER BEES.
These girls have worked hard over an extended period of time while reproduction is minimal and weather permits them to remain indoors, using stores while they maintain the hive and colony.
These girls may be 3 months old!
A lot older than their Summer counterparts who work themselves out much more quickly, in approximately 30 days.
