Mac- Macky boy as I have been calling him.
Getting his teeth done today, all up to date ready to head home this weekend.

Came to us as a 4yr old who had been lightly backed and ready to start learning and gain some education.
🧑‍🏫👨‍🎓🥰💙
He is such a sweet in your pocket horse. You have been wonderful to have here Mac certainly reminding us at times that your still a baby and can be a cheeky boy at times ;) but you are going to to do great things with your owner young man.

Love this!

As a part of Horses preparation to becoming competition horses, an important part of their process is to be sure they are ok to handle other horses working in the arena with them and should the horses play up they not be affected by it emotionally.

This young lad worked lovely he certainly kept one eye on our other Horse working with us and even when my partners horse got a freight and started panicking and bucking, Mac asked me what do I do. As any young horse would in that situation and we kept calm and we carried on 👏 good boy.

Starting to build some muscle now as well.
I will be sad to say bye as I am with most ;) when they head home.

Good young lad
Mac just turned 4yr old - Sport Horse X welsh giving me a lovely ride this morning some nice canter work coming along, He's been enjoying his time here I believe, made himself quite at home with the other horses snoozing in the sun 😇🐴💙

It's lovely to see them running and playing even getting to roam the property together in a heard for a few hours a day before back into their own paddocks for dinner or lunchtime hay then comfortable and happy enough to lay around

Handover day/ Home time 🚛🏠🐴

The handover day is always such an important part of any owners process when collecting your Horse / Pony from the trainers.

Owners have every right to a handover and this should always be done before you take your Horse/ Pony home.

Such a sweet little Mare this one, sadly lost confidence in us humans as leaders, which then lead to her not seeing much value in us or our partnership.

Safe travels home been lovely having you. 😇

Welcome Salix.
Working with this sweet pea while her mumma is kicking her feet up in Bali ;)🍹🏝

Little Madam is here for some much needed aid and communication touch ups.
Sadly it's very easy for these animals to just switch off or shut down and its not always rider related either ..🤔💡
And it's always a wise idea when you find yourself and your partner in these tricky situations to seek help to just ensure you can both get back to enjoying life together safely. 🤝💜🐴👩🏼‍🏫

ℹ️ Lunging, circling game whichever you choose to name it. 📣

Why do you lunge?
Do you know the purpose?
Do you know if you are doing it affectively?
Does your Horse understand what it is you are trying to communicate to him through the lunge line and on ground?
Does your Horse respond correctly? with relaxation?

I do agree this is a bit much.. if you seriously need all that Gear then you really need to go back and have a look at your training.

Remember Horses can free jump perfectly fine without us. In fact I encourage those even at the top level to watch how rhythmic, calm and confident a horse can jump over anything without us interfering with them.

Take the time to read and understand.
They do not have voices so we must be better listeners and observe more rather than just do what we think is right for us.

Horses are amazingly tolerant, giving creatures.

It unfortunately means they’re often exploited due to the ambitions of the human. After their basic needs are met, you must be very thoughtful in the training of your horse.

Your first duty is to preserve the purity of the paces. What does this mean? Walk has 4 beats, trot has 2, canter has 3, gallop has 4. ALWAYS. If not, something is wrong biomechanically, and your horse is at risk of injury. BTW impure paces can usually be detected in a photograph, even though it is only a “moment in time”, AND this applies to all disciplines.

Strapping a horse’s mouth shut with a crank/flash (or other) noseband very often contributes. The fact is, a horse cannot maintain full range of motion with his hind legs if he can’t move his tongue and jaw. FACT.

For jumping, if the horse bolts off - away from, towards, or after a jump, putting on a bigger bit and a martingale will not fix it. If a horse hesitates or stops, pulling out the whip will NEVER make him more confident.

These are just a few hints that your horse is asking for HELP. Go back. Consolidate the basics. Another wonderful thing about horses is they're retrainable. If you ignore the hints, eventually the horse will either break down, or will SHOUT to get your attention, and you will get hurt.

After all, horses are dangerous. We tell everyone that. But actually they are not. We wouldn’t be able to ride them if they were truly dangerous. You know what’s dangerous? People are.

Ponder this excerpt from Franz Mairinger’s book “Horses are made to be Horses”:

I recall an incident in Sydney when we had a lame horse with a very bad tendon, and the rider wanted to start the horse the next day. We asked Roy Stewart, the veterinary surgeon, and he said, ‘Yes, that’s the trouble. People always think that horses are made for man, but that’s not true. Horses are made to be horses’. I thought about that a lot, and decided that if I should write a book I would call it Horses are made to be Horses.

(Franz Mairinger was the first coach of an Australian Olympic Equestrian Team, his excellent book is out of print, but can occasionally be found second hand - buy it if you see it)

A bit of Jump Fill and water tray exposure for this super PC mount.

Prior Preparation- Prevents - Poor performance
It’s a very fair and wise idea to prepare your Horse for upcoming events or anything new!

Good example is this little mare and her rider, this combination are conditioned pony clubbers and PC eventers but have never seen or jumped a water tray.
They have a Show Jumping comp coming up that I know includes a water tray.
So we introduce the Horse to it firstly on her own on the ground let her sniff it then front legs , then back legs.

Then allow the rider to go over with her in saddle.
This allows the horse to experience the activity in her own way with no pressure up top and avoids the rider interfering with the Horses exposure / first impressions to this activity by feeding off the riders nerves, if the rider is also not overly confident with getting the young horse over something new.

Success ✅

Proud of this little man tonight. Really making big improvements. From coming here very stiff in his stifles and shoulders a little worried about moving forward stuck in a small stiff little trot due to him worrying it’s going to hurt him to this lovely expressive trot and even having the courage to have a stretch while doing so.

Young ones. 🐴 Horsemanship isn’t just riding.
Just because you feel they aren’t ready to be backed ( Started under saddle ) does NOT mean you can’t build a relationship with them, introduce them to humans rules and strange human activities we request they join us in doing.
It’s NEVER to early to find and request a partnership remember less is more in certain cases, little bits of information each session and know when to quit ✍🏼👩🏼‍🏫 💡

Preparations for long reining with this boy.
For a horse that is NOT confident and not comfortable with people or things behind him let alone touching him from behind, he handled this very well super happy with him. We walked stopped and even changed rein 👏🏽

Happiness is getting the horses worked and not getting soaked 🤣 ✅
