🍯 Wound Wax 🍯

Flies and wounds - not a good match! 🪰❌

Wounds, cuts and scabs are often a magnet for flies because they are attracted to the exudates. While a cut may not look like much, fly exposure can often make it worse, causing irritation and removing scabs, which in turn can prolong the healing process.

Keeping flies off scabs and wounds is vital for the healing process ❤️‍🩹

🍯 Applying a salve like Wound Wax makes an ideal barrier as it fills, packs and covers the area to prevent flies from coming in contact with the wound.

🩹 No need to bandage if the area doesn’t require it.

🐝 The combination of beeswax, coconut oil and honey in Wound Wax helps it to adhere without the sticky mess of honey on its own.

🪻Wound Wax is scented with Lavender which has been used as a natural bug repellent for hundreds of years and may help to deter flies.

We have Wound Wax available in 50g, 100g, 250g or 1L to suit your needs!

The dreaded itched-out tail😱 3 weeks out from a show a customer sent us this photo asking for help! She currently uses Wound Wax for cuts, but wondered if it would help her horse's itchy problem. The short answer? YES!

Tail scratching can be a sign of dry, itchy skin which is common during hot and dry weather, which we've been experiencing a lot of recently. Unfortunately, once they start rubbing it, the area only becomes drier and itchier, especially when the hair comes out and the skin is exposed.

She's since started applying Wound Wax to the area morning and night. "Thanks for the advice recently team, the Wound Wax has made a huge difference in 2 weeks already, he's stopped rubbing so excessively, it's less flaky and the hair is starting to grow back. Hopefully by next Sunday we'll be ready to go!"

How can Wound Wax help?
🐝 Adding moisture back into the area is the first step to reducing the itchiness and restoring the skin barrier to promote hair re-growth.
🐝Wound Wax helps to seal in the moisture and avoid further drying out in the area
🐝The honey in our formula may help to soothe the itchiness and inflammation
🐝The beeswax in our formula helps Wound Wax to grip to the area so it doesn't get rubbed off straight away.

Who's excited for all the delicious food at Christmas? Us! But a lot of our Christmas treats are actually dangerous for our pets. Try to avoid passing them a snack under the table or letting them indulge in leftovers. Christmas favourites like fruitcake, chocolate and ham can actually cause illness in dogs.

Make sure you keep wrapping, ribbon and foam packaging away from dogs too. Nobody has an emergency vet trip on their Santa wish list at this time of year!

- Flies and wounds - not a good match!
Wounds, cuts and scabs are often a magnet for flies because they are attracted to the exudates. While a cut may not look like much, fly exposure can sometimes make it worse and cause more trouble, from irritation of the area and knocking scabs off to serious cases where sores or 'fly strike' can occur.

Keeping flies off scabs and wounds is vital for the healing process.
✅ Control flies and biting insects in your environment as much as possible
✅ Remove dirty bedding, manure and damp areas that flies are attracted to
✅ Apply a barrier salve like Wound Wax to prevent contact with the wound
✅ Apply a repellent to the area around the wound, but not too close to the wound itself

🐝 Wound Wax makes an ideal barrier as it fills, packs and covers the area to keep flies off it.
🐝 The beeswax and coconut oil that we mix with our honey helps it to adhere without the sticky mess of honey on it's own.
🐝 The highly rated honey we use can aid with healing the wound underneath.
🐝 Honey may help to reduce irritations and itching around the wound by soothing and healing the skin barrier.
🐝 Wound Wax is scented with Lavender which has been used as a natural bug repellent for hundreds of years and may help to deter flies.

No matter how small the wound or scratch, it is worth looking after it! 🐝

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "When my curious gelding, Prints, managed to cut his face, I immediately turned to Wound Wax to keep it clean, moist and healing nicely. Given the delicate spot above his eye, I was confident to use Wound Wax as it contains natural ingredients and is water resistant.

Prints is also a little suspect about things around his face but he loves the smell of Wound Wax, just like me! The cut has healed very nicely and hasn’t left a scar at all."

We were bandaging to keep clean and treating with antibiotics but the last 3 weeks we have left unbandaged and been applying wound wax and WOW it is looking so good!

Thank you for sharing, Sara. Dog paw wounds can be so difficult to manage and bandage when they cover so much ground every day. Wound Wax helps to form a protective barrier while supporting the healing process underneath.

Wound Care Wednesday - why use Wound Wax instead of pure honey?
While pure honey is great for using on some wounds, there are limitations to it's use. We've taken premium, Jarrah honey with the highest TA rating and blended it with beeswax, coconut oil and olive oil, to make it easier to apply and give it some additional benefits like:
✅ Easier to apply (no sticky mess)

✅ Longer lasting on the skin - the beeswax helps to adhere and create a barrier, whereas honey can melt off easily with body heat.

✅ A drop of lavender oil helps to keep insects away, where the sugar in pure honey attracts insects.

✅ Wound Wax is hydrophobic, meaning it repels water, whereas honey dissolves in water.

Wound Wax was created by a horse vet, who understood the incredible healing powers of our Western Australian honeys.

! Ever had a horse come in from the paddock with a cut and wondered about calling the vet? Here is a checklist you can use to help you work out when you should call your vet:
▪ If you are unsure of treatment
▪ Any wound that is close to a joint
▪ Any wound that involves a tendon
▪ All eye injuries are considered an emergency
▪ Exposed bone
▪ Profuse bleeding
▪ If the wound is able to be sutured closed – this will undoubtedly speed up the healing process
▪ Dirty contaminated wounds where the chance of infection is high
▪ Your horse is in a dull/depressed state

✅ Make sure you have records of your horse's vaccinations, especially their tetanus shots as wounds that have come from old metal or rusty fences can be risky.

✅ Keep a well stocked First Aid kit on hand (with plenty of Wound Wax) to treat superficial injuries or so your vet can talk you through initial treatment before they arrive.

Customer review incoming: "Bye-bye scar! Thanks for keeping my gelding handsome!" ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

"My gelding had a nasty, deep wound on his muzzle which needed internal and external stitches. With flies, dust and lots of rubbing it was hard to keep the wound clean (and healing!)

I applied Wound Wax twice a day, and found it gave him relief from the itching and stopped him rubbing so much. It kept the flies off and really healed well. With stitches out, I rub Wound Wax into it every time I ride and the scar is shrinking by the day. Loves this product!" - Ally QLD

Did you know that the sand and salt water at the beach can actually be quite abrasive and dehydrating for your dog's paws? Beach walks are too nice to let sore-paws slow them down.
🐝 Rub Wound Wax into their paws to help form a barrier before hitting the beach
🐝 Make sure you wash the salt water and sand off their feet when you get home
🐝 Apply Wound Wax again to lock in moisture and prevent paws cracking

Wound Wax is made with healing honey and beeswax to help soothe and nourish the skin and may also help to heal any little cracks in the paw pad.

P.S. It is great for your skin too! 🍯

Are you ready for insect season? Many parts of Australia have experienced a very wet winter...and a wet start to spring...and it looks like it's going to keep on coming ☔
The wet ground, lush pastures and warmer temperatures does provide the perfect breeding ground for a lot of biting insects like Mozzies and Midges. These pests can make life tough for our animals, so what can you do to lessen the impact of bites?

✅ Try to reduce the amount of standing water that is lying around your property, or avoid walking dogs in areas with standing water (like swampy or wetland areas).
✅ Try and keep grasses mown, slashed or grazed where possible to reduce areas were midges like to hang out
✅ Keep animals inside or stabled in the evenings when insects tend to swarm
✅ Keep susceptible horses rugged to protect them from bites

What happens if your pets are struggling with sore or itchy bites? If you are worried that they are having a nasty reaction to a bit, consult your vet.

➡ Wound Wax can be used applied topically on bites and may help to soothe the area and decrease inflammation. It can also help to restore the skin barrier in areas that your pet may have scratched or rubbed as a result of bites. 🐝

We know that our honey has lots of healing properties, but did you know that beeswax has a number of benefits too?
Beeswax is produced by special glands on the bees abdomen, and it is separated from the honey and melted to add to our Wound Wax. Some of the benefits of beeswax include:
🐝 It is a source of Vitamin A which is essential for healthy skin and skin regeneration
🐝 Like honey, it has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties
🐝 It forms a protective barrier to hold moisture in while still allowing the skin or wound to breathe
🐝 It contains sterols which have a softening effect on the skin, and also help Wound Wax to stick!
🐝 It contains phenolic acids and certain flavonoids which give it antiseptic properties
🐝 It helps to make our formula easy to apply

And best of all, it's a natural product! We blend it with our highly TA-rated honey, coconut oil and olive oil to create Wound Wax.

Available to order online or at selected stockists around Australia.
