Our service is patient & client focused with friendly staff, certificate qualified nurses and seven Veterinarians that is a blend of vast experience coupled with enthusiastic recent gradua

tes. We emphasis continuing veterinary education and training to supply the most up to date treatment protocols for our patients & clients. We are constantly employing new equipment and upgrading facilities. We have an excellent equine facility at Riddells Creek. In 2007 we built an architect designed state of the art Small Animal Hospital in Gisborne. We hope you will trust us with caring for all your pets and horse and livestock needs.

Today, we have performed an extraction of a base narrow baby canine tooth from a puppy.

Extending into the upper gum, this lower canine tooth was pressing hard into the roof causing an open wound, discomfort and pain which, if not attended to, can also lead to behavioural problems

This shows the importance of having puppy teeth checked at regular intervals.
This will not impact the adult tooth that is waiting to appear when ready.

As you can see, 80% of this tooth is in the gum ! So much happens under the gum, hence the high recommendation of having X-rays

This little cutie will make a very quick full recover and now be pain free

If you are concerned about your pets teeth , please reach out. 54282805

Our amazing PhD student Skye has been at it again. Skye recently travelled to Florida where she was invited to present her research at the World Equestrian Centre

Part of her presentation focuses on the adipokine hormone adiponectin, its insulin-sensitising and anti-inflammatory properties, and the underlying mechanisms involved in endocrinopathic laminitis.

Here at GVC, we sure do have an incredible range of skills and knowledge
Well done Skye

Not only was the presentation terrific, the facilities were next level amazing!

TPLO stands for Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy
It’s a surgical procedure performed to treat a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) in a dogs knee

A CCL is very similar to that of a human tearing the ACL. Sadly surgical attention is required

A torn cruciate are not the words any dog owner likes to hear…
It’s a complex surgery to repair and is a bit of a journey to recovery.

Here at GVC, we see our fair share, with 2 repairs being done this week alone.

Sadly a CCL can not repair without intervention. Without surgery the knee joint will remain unstable and the instability can result in pain, inflammation, arthritis and possible meniscal damage.

This gorgeous patient Miss B , has unfortunately returned to get the other leg done, having had the first leg repaired only a few months ago.

It’s difficult to prevent CCL injuries and there is no perfect rule to stop it from happening
You can however keep your dog healthy, active and feed them a good balanced diet as part of their general well-being and health.
However, in saying that , one small jump off the bed at an awkward angle or off the couch can be the cause of a CCL tear and this patient today, certainly is a very healthy perfect weight dog who was very unlucky to do both legs.

If concerned about lameness in your dog give us a call at the clinic, a review and x-rays will assist us to identify what has happened.

We are very fortunate to have a terrific vet available to do our orthopaedic surgeries for us and you !
Dr Paul May and his lovely nurse ( and second vet today Lucy) travel around with an incredible kit of tools, when not working out of our sister clinic in Wallan.

With good solid recovery, instructions and follow ups, Miss B is expected to make a full recovery

Very important that our local community follow accurate guidelines relating to the current bushfire in Bullengarook.

Please follow emergency services directions and if in the area, ensure your fire plan is ready if not acted on already

Several of our staff are impacted and have evacuated already from Bullengarook.

We will remain open and functional at this stage.
And we will advise if any changes.

If Gisborne is issued an evacuation command, the clinic will close immediately.
If your pet is with us and that occurs, we will be in touch.

Please ensure you have your vic emergency app or website loaded and are receiving updates.

Keep your pets and stock hydrated and make sure they have access to water.

Take care

UPDATE: We will endeavour to livestream the meeting on this page, about 6pm when the meeting begins. An Auslan interpreter will be in attendance. Please note that we may not have the capability to answer questions on the livestream in real time, but will do our best 👍 A recording of the livestream should be available here shortly after.

⚠️ BULLENGAROOK FIRE - COMMUNITY UPDATE ⚠️

➡️ In response to the ongoing fire situation in Bullengarook, an Emergency Relief Centre has been established at Kyneton Racecourse (44 Campaspe Place, Kyneton) as the go-to location for any residents in need of assistance, including those who have been advised to evacuate.

This location is strategically chosen to be able to provide services such as toilets and showers, as well as having ample space for vehicles, pets and horses.

➡️ A community meeting will be held at the Bullengarook campus, Macedon Ranges Specialist School (705 Bacchus Marsh Road, Bullengarook, VIC, 3437) at 6pm tonight (Saturday 21 December 2024), where emergency services will provide an update on the fire situation and response.

We will endeavour to try to support a livestream of this meeting in some form for those who cannot attend in person, subject to some logistics to be confirmed.

ℹ️ Council is not the source of the latest fire info - please monitor VicEmergency (emergency.vic.gov.au) for emergency updates, or tune into your local ABC radio. ℹ️

ℹ️ Keep an eye on our website (mrsc.vic.gov.au/BG-fire-updates) and social media for further updates around support being provided. Stay safe everyone ❤️

Terrific news

Veterinarians are now recognised alongside other health professionals in the ANZSCO (now known as OSCA) classification system! 🥳

The updated classification is a win for the profession as it better reflects the skills, responsibilities, and value veterinarians bring to society and is expected to improve data, modelling, and support future access to government funding and policy decisions.
