YESS! Mangoes are here

There’s a bunch of new mangoes coming onto the market, and they seem to have one thing in common: their names end in an exclamation mark! Yess!, AhHa! And Now! are the results of the National Mango Breeding Program over the past 25 years, and are only now being grown commercially.

We can’t say no to the Yess! mango, if only because of its vibrant colour. Moussa was sold when the supplier gave him a sample: ‘sweet, firm and not stringy’ was his verdict, on a par with a KP for flavour, and better on account of its firm and non-stringy texture. Available loose ($2.50) or by the tray for $32. That works out to $2 each. Will last the distance.

Let's reflect and always remember.

As we head into another circle around the sun; it's often at this time we often stop to reflect and give appreciation to life, the people we love and care about; and always grateful for the food and water we have.

Every man, woman and child deserves to eat. I am always grateful to have a Hub and members that have given a Kindness Box to the Wollongong Homeless Hub every single week for the past 2 and a half years.

And we can only give because there are people across our country waking up every single day to grow and prepare this food.

Food doesn’t come from grocery stores—it comes from the tireless efforts of passionate farmers, harvesters, and producers who work behind the scenes to grow, nurture, and prepare the food we enjoy. 🌾🍎

From the fields to the shelves, every bite has a story of hard work and care.

𝗜𝗳 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝘁, 𝘄𝗲 𝗼𝘄𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate the people and processes that make our meals possible. 🙌❤

ITS THE SMALL THINGS 💰⏰

💁🏽‍♀️Convenience can be a double-edged sword! While popping into local grocery stores makes shopping easier, those quick trips often come with a higher price tag and poor quality produce 💵🍉

🤔Imagine you’re at the shop and you think of
grabbing a whole watermelon to snack on for the week. 🍉 Although you probably had the best intentions of eating healthy… this could be costing over double the amount of money than if you shopped at Box Divvy. 😰

Sure, sometimes we just can't avoid it, but if you take a moment to consider, you might find that shopping at Box Divvy not only saves you money but also offers some super convenient features.

📱All ordering is done online via your phone or computer from the comfort of your home
👩🏽‍🌾 Your order is picked fresh and packed by your local hubster. This means low food miles, limited packaging, reduced food waste and lower carbon footprint. Also less handling of your produce 👌
🏠Collection is super close to home—maybe even right in your own street if you’re lucky! 😉
🫶🏼You get to know your community, have a chat at pick up and make friends!

So, the next time you're tempted by the ease of a nearby shop, remember that a little extra effort with meal planning at Box Divvy could go a long way not only for both your wallet and your kitchen, but your health. 😜

MARKET UPDATE 🛒
Weak demand across the board, especially from the hospitality sector, is pushing prices down. We are recording a 4.7% drop in average prices across fruit – stone fruit, passion fruit, limes and tropical fruits – and vegetables.

Fruit 💁🏻‍♀️
🍑 🍒 🍓🫐 In fruit, trays of peaches and nectarines will come down to $16.50; cherries and apricots will remain cheap, whilst limes, lychees and berries will all be cheaper than this week.

Vegetables 💁🏻‍♀️
🍅 🫑 In vegetables, tomatoes and now also capsicums will be recording record low prices.
🥬 🥒 🍆 🥦 Lettuces, cucumbers, eggplant, zucchini, broccoli, cabbages, shallots and most leafy greens will be cheap and broadly lower than this week.
🎃 Small Butternut pumpkins (< 1kg) will halve in price.
😋 Next week will definitely be the last week for loose asparagus – still under $1.30 per handful. If you want these for Christmas, simply blanche and freeze.
🥔 The only problematic lines will still be potatoes.
🥬 Also baby spinach has been hit with bad weather and won’t be available for at least a week. The mesclun – and all other lettuces – will be fine.

KNOW WHATS IN YOUR FOOD 🤓

What’s been circulating the news and social media last few days is the use of Bovaer 10 in cattle.

Bovaer 10 is a feed additive designed to reduce methane emissions from cattle, but its use on lactating cows raises concerns about potential negative impacts on both animal health and human consumers. Research suggests that the chemicals in Bovaer could affect milk quality and composition, which might lead to unintended consequences for those consuming dairy products such as milk, cheeses etc. The warning on the label says NOT FOR HUMAN USE, see for yourself, including possible side effects of consuming. Surely cows are allowed to fart and burp right? 💨

It's important to prioritize transparency and quality in our food sources. That's why at Box Divvy, we are proud to source our dairy products from Norco Milk, which has made a commitment to NOT USE Bovaer 10.
This ensures that our customers can enjoy high-quality, safe dairy products without the worry of harmful additives. Supporting suppliers who prioritize health and sustainability is essential for the well-being of both consumers and the environment.

Support local farmers 💚
