AMMO Allwormer is a combination of 2 classification of Anthelmintics: Abamectin (a Macrocylic Acid, commonly known as a Mectin) and Morantel (a Tetrahydropyrimidine or THP).

This combination makes it effective against resistant roundworms (Wilkes 2017 study), and covers a broad category of worms including tapeworm.

Plus, it has a peppermint flavour, which is one of the top preferred flavours by horses!

Have you ever had your horse scoped?

The images on the second picture is what your vet could be seeing.

The goal of treating Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS) is to moderate the acid level in the stomach, to give the ulcer time to heal and recover and reducing the discomfort the horse may be feeling.

Treating EGUS is often multi-factorial, so consider your feeding, training and medicating routines, as well as travel, stresses and symptoms, so you and your vet can tailor a recovery program specific to your horse's needs.

A 2005 study comparing horses working through the same training program, showed the horses that travelled has a higher gastric ulcer score and higher risk of developing ulcers than the horses that did not travel.

So, if you need to travel your horse, and especially if you horse is already prone to Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome, speak to your vet about the best ways to guard against ulcer development.

About Gastric Ulcers - Gina shares her experience:

Some horses are just a more anxious type of personality, especially with thoroughbreds, and in my experience these are often the ones more prone to ulcers. If I have a horse that comes to me for training that is more unsettled in the stable or yard, manures a lot when being handled and ridden, or is a fussy eater, then I straight away think that it could either already have, or be more likely to develop an ulcer. For sure with this type of horse I will recommend to the owner that we consult a vet about a course of treatment because the last thing we want is to make any horse more uncomfortable and stressed.

Also, with my dressage horses, when we are competing at the big shows, with long distances of travel and staying on the show grounds and away from the normal routine, this can be a trigger for stress and so I will start a preventative course of (vet recommended EGUS treatment) leading into the show to support the gut health and optimise performance. The best advice is to be mindful of gastric ulcers and look out for signs of onset, for something that really makes a horse very uncomfortable/painful they can be relatively easy to avoid or treat.

Did you know that something as simple as transporting/floating/trailering your horse could increase the risk of your horse developing Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome?

This is a necessary part of any horses life at one stage or another, so speak to your vet about developing a preventative plan to guard against gastric ulcers.

A diet that is high in concentrated feed, or restrictions for grazing, increases the risk of gastric ulcer formation (Reese and Andrews 2009). While it seems the easy answer is don't restrict grazing or don't feed high concentrations of feeds, there are times when this becomes necessary, especially if there are other healthcare needs that take priority.

So, if you are needing to undertake feeding management that potentially increases the risk of gastric ulcers with your horse, speak to your vet about a potential preventative program.

A horses stomach produces acid regularly. While this is normally buffered or neutralised by saliva, sometimes certain activities increase the acidity or movement of the acid and increase the risk of Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS).

Gastric ulcers are an uncomfortable problem for horses, with many horses experiencing them during their life - even as foals!

We will share some common scenarios that can increase the risk of EGUS developing in your horse over the coming weeks, but if you suspect your horse may have developed a gastric ulcer, speak with your vet about diagnosis and treatment.

We asked some professional riders their best tips, just for you!

Today's question: What is the one thing you always take to a competition (beside the horse and usual riding gear)?

Gina Montgomery, Dressage Rider: "My "right-hand person", Lisa! Best friend, co-owner, eyes on the ground, groom, driver, social media organiser, problem solver and all round best supporter of me and whichever horse/s I am competing. The only thing she doesn't do is plait LOL. It's invaluable to have the right people or support team behind you."

David Cameron, Show Jumper & Olympian: "My bag full off Ceva products! I use Amp5, Vam and Tripart the most!"

Tallara Cameron, Show Jumper & Teacher: "I try to always take my Frank Green water bottle but I'm not always the best at hydrating haha"

So that's it today folks. Next show, I'll make sure not to forget my right-hand person, bag of horse healthcare supplements, your water bottle and possibly someone to help me braid... goodness knows I need help there!

What will you take?
