My long line of Labradors all started in 1967 with a wonderful yellow girl who I called Tina. I had just started a riding school in Jindabyne and felt that at last I was settled in life and could have the company of a dog again and give it a good life. I decided to try and find an older pup so that it would be safer running around the horses. I was lucky to find one 4 months old that was the last
in the litter and still waiting for her new home. She became my constant companion for 14 very special years and was the most wonderful dog. In my single years she lived with me in Jindabyne and the Snowy Mountains and never left my side. Apart from running after the horses all over the mountains she loved to go skiing and my friends of 50 years have many memories of her. After my marriage she came with us to Gloucester and was wonderful with my 3 boys. She died peacefully at the age of 14 with no serious illnesses through her whole life. Her offspring would continue to produce healthy pups , have the amazing qualities and kind nature that she had. Every single pup that I breed today 50 years later, all are related to that wonderful girl. I have never introduced a new female line in all those years. I have used and bought top male stud dogs from the best breeders over those years with qualities that I think are very important. I am therefore very proud of the pups that I breed and make sure they leave to live a happy life with their new families and will give as much joy as their ancestors have given to me,and to many others. I bred puppies for Guide Dogs over a period of 30 years until they started their own breeding programme. I was the first to breed the cross Labrador and Golden Retriever for them, with good results. The confidence of the labs and sensitivity of the Goldies was successful as a Guide Dog. Many pups have become therapy and assistance companions. I have been thrilled with stories of their amazing abilities in helping children and adults to combat their disabilities. They seem to have a sixth sense that comes so naturally to them. My daughter in law who is a teacher of special needs children , takes her Trudgalong lab, Bear to school several times a week. She says it makes so much difference to her day to have the help of Bear. Bear will on her own accord sense when a child is having a bad day and go and sit with them. Like all pups they do need that regular training as pups and 8 to 14 weeks is a critical time when they are so receptive. They are so willing to learn and to do the right thing but need to be shown what the right way is. A little time is so well spent and will reap great rewards and produce a companion who is a joy to be with and will be welcome around all who visit and come in contact with. They love to be part of the family and travel and join in outings. All my breeding Labradors now live with families both the males and females. I have found that as I have got older they can have a wonderful life with a family and can return to have pups with me. This means that I can continue to breed for a few more years. I go and pick the males for a few days stay when I need them. They get very excited when I go as they know what a holiday with me means. The girls come back to be mated after they are 18 months old. They return home for a few weeks and come back to have their pups. They have 2 litters and then are de-sexed and continue their happy family life. This is a win win situation as the pups have a great family life and families have a free quality pup. It also means I can continue to breed my long line of pups for a few more years without having a lot of dogs to care for as I get older. All males and females are hip and elbow scored before breeding. Pups are born in an area in my house and spend their first few weeks there. They then move to a larger area in the outbuilding. At 5-6 weeks they move to the grass run and kennel area. They are well handled and socialised. They are wormed every 2 weeks and visit the vet at 6 weeks for vaccination and health check. I am authorised to micro-chip animals and I do them before they leave at 8 weeks. I have quality stud dogs available for approved females including Chocolate, black and have just bought a yellow who will be ready soon. There are times when I am looking for homes for my breeding dogs male and female so if you think you would like to do this please contact me.
