Hey community,

I don’t normally call out for help but I am swallowing all of my pride and doing so.
I’m reaching out with a deeply personal and urgent plea for support.

My precious grandbaby Olivia, one of the brightest of lights, a beautiful soul, and an absolutely gorgeous little angel, has been diagnosed with the second most severe mutation of a rare and terminal condition called Infantile Alexander disease, a devastating illness that has no cure.

There are no words strong enough to describe the heartbreak her parents and our family is feeling. What I can say is that she is surrounded by nothing but love, from her incredible parents, her devoted family, and a village of people holding her in their hearts.

In the midst of grief, we want to do everything we can to support her parents through this horrendousously painful journey. Their love and strength are beyond measure, but they shouldn’t have to carry the weight of this alone.

They are now in contact with a hospital in Philadelphia, USA, about a program/protocol that could potentially help prolong Olivia’s life, but time and resources are both limited.

A fundraiser has been established to help ease the financial pressures they are facing, allowing them to spend precious time together and care for their daughter without added stress, and to support their search for treatment options.

If you are able, please consider helping by sharing, or donating to support them during this most difficult time.

Every dollar, every share, every message of support truly means the world to us.

My son’s words shared on his own page capture the weight of this moment better than I ever could:

“…please consider a share or a donation to help my little angel stay with me before her guardian calls her home.”

Thank you for holding our family in your hearts. 💖

Coercive control increasing medical care costs for pets 🐾💔
RSPCA QLD has seen a spike in complex veterinary cases involving animals from domestic and family violence situations, where coercive control has prevented victim-survivors from accessing timely care for their pets.

Our Pets in Crisis Program, supported by The Petbarn Foundation, assists victim-survivors of domestic and family violence by offering free boarding and veterinary support to their animals, giving peace of mind knowing their animals are safe while they seek alternative accommodation.

‼️ Medical care costs skyrocket
As a result of the increase of animals requiring complex and prolonged veterinary care, nearly half of our Pets in Crisis program’s total expenses now go toward meeting these medical needs.

⚖️ New Coercive Control Legislation
From 26 May 2025, coercive control will be a criminal offence in Queensland 👉 bit.ly/3YLCMC4

The hope for the new legislation is to provide the legal support for victims to safely come forward, while also recognising the insidious, long-term harm that coercive control causes to both people and the animals caught in abusive environments.

Queensland Police Service has seen too many heartbreaking cases where perpetrators often use threats of harm to pets as a form of manipulation and emotional abuse and are committed to working alongside support services like RSPCA QLD and DVConnect.

❤️ A Heart for Hope
For Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month this May, The Petbarn Foundation is running an in-store fundraiser across the country raising funds for programs like RSPCA QLD’s Pets in Crisis.

💙 SEEKING THAT SPECIAL FUREVER HOME 💙

We're excited to announce our first Standard since 2023 looking for his new family to share their home.

💙 Meet Onnie, a 2-year, 4-month-old desexed male from a registered breeder. Onnie is in need of the right type of home and a committed family to mold him for a successful and happy life ahead. As you'd expect for his age, he has energy. Sadly his current environment with a busy young family lacks the time and attention needed to address his needs and guide him in the right direction.

💙 He's very loving, not destructive, and mainly spends his time outside wondering what the neighbor's dogs are doing. He does have a young Labrador as a housemate, along with two cats that peak his curiosity. Unfortunately, he hasn't had the opportunity for regular walks and outings, nor does he understand the etiquette when meeting other dogs. These are all achievable with proper input.

💙 Onnie is incredibly loyal and good-natured. While he's used to children around 10-12 years old, he might be a bit rambunctious and hefty (approx 20-22kgs) for younger kids. He's patient, loves being professionally groomed, and enjoys outings to the river or beach.

💙 He needs someone with a strong personality who has the time and love to set him on a better path. Someone who is at home most of the day. He is not a 'set & forget' dog. Onnie needs your commitment to training, adventures and activities to keep his adolescent mind stimulated, as well as understanding and allowing him a safe, quiet place to retreat when he may be overwhelmed.

✅ If, after reading the above, you believe your home and lifestyle would fit Onnie's needs, and you can commit to opening your heart to another schnauzer for 10+ years, we're very keen to hear from you.

✅ If you have another dog, a Meet & Greet will be required to ensure compatibility. Onnie is currently based in Brisbane and will be vaccinated and vet checked before fostering. SEQ applicants with Standard experience preferred.

✅ APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED. Watch for updates 💙
