Remember, little miss McKenna?! She broke her leg from crazy puppy shenanigans. Several weeks of crate rest and having a cast on, she had muscle wastage and had lost strength in that leg. Hydrotherapy gave her the confidence to walk on it again and rebuild her strength. Not every dog loves water, and not every dog loves treats. So it can be challenging, but knowing what motivates a dog allows me to make their journey a little less stressful. 🤩 Charlie up date 🤩 Charlie is still unable to walk unassisted, but he is slowly starting to get some movement in his hind legs. We are working on building his strength back up so he can stand on his own and reminding the brain how to use the legs again. Comparing swimming vs. walking in an underwater treadmill. Both are great forms of hydrotherapy, but what is it that your dog needs from their rehabilitation? If they have recently had any form of surgery, swimming is not recommended! They need to wait at least a minimum of 8 weeks. You can see some dogs will kick vigorousl. This can do more damage than good. Swimming is great IF they use their limbs. You can see in the video that a lot of them don't use their back legs at all. When walking in the underwater treadmill, they have to use all of their legs. Jet is a 9yr old Great Dane. Who only just a few weeks ago was unable to go for walks down the street and was getting unsteady on his legs. I am pleased to say after 10 sessions in the underwater treadmill he is a much happier and more active dog. Last week he went for his first walk in over 12 months!!

🥳 Go, Paddy!! All his hard work has finally paid off. He has lost almost 1kg and 10cm off his waist!! Not every dog is able to go on leash walks. This may be due to behaviour issues, the owner is unable to walk them self or in Paddys case, he over heats to quickly and this can be fatal for brachycephalic dogs (dogs with squishy faces - pugs and frenchies). So exercising out doors can be difficult. Thankfully, Paddy LOVES hydrotherapy, and he can exercise in a safe and calm environment.
